Chapter 13: Chapter 13: A Witch's Birth Pt.2
Despite the discovery, I honestly didn't know what to do with this information and I couldn't really look for into it, as the skill [Identify] was still at its lowest advancement in its {Path of Advancement}.
Looking over all the information again, noticing a book being mention I wondered whether the thick black book by my waist was one of the witch's books.
At first, the book had appeared as nothing more than a thick, black tome—plain, heavy, and unadorned. Its presence was quiet yet unnervingly oppressive, like it held secrets it didn't want anyone to uncover.
But as my attention shifted back to it, something changed. A faint, almost imperceptible shimmer ran across its surface, subtle like the dying embers of a flame. The black exterior began to fade, its dull surface giving way to a richer, deeper texture—a dark brown leather cover, aged yet refined.
Intricate golden etchings slowly traced themselves across the surface, forming winding patterns resembling delicate vines and roots. At the center of it all, a symbol emerged: a crescent moon, softly entwined with blooming flowers. The faint, almost ghostly glow of the design pulsed for a moment before settling into stillness, as though acknowledging its new owner.
The spine now bore the name [The Witches' Primer], written in strange yet elegant script that seemed to hum with a quiet, ancient power.
I stared at the book in silence, watching as it lay there—its transformation complete. It was hard to believe this was the same nondescript black tome I had picked up earlier. There was no mistaking it now: this book was connected to [The Crimson Mark] ring.
So many things were happening too fast, and I haven't even finished looking through the rest of the items that I had gotten from the chest earlier. However, with our current location being somewhat safe from sudden attacks and didn't contain any traps, I decided to stay in the room for the mean time and read through the book [The Witches' Primer] but before that, I needed to look through the remaining items.
There are only 2 items left on the table, a pair of black leather gloves and a red crystal. Without wasting anymore time I used the glasses to read the information about the last two items with the [Appraisal] function of the glasses.
The leather gloves weren't name but it wasn't just a leather glove, it gave the wearer a small boost of strength when worn, and finally the red crystal was called [Spirit Shard] and was half the size of my pinky finger. Still, with something so small, it was something important. It was a small shard used as summoning tool, and contain something similar to mana, but was something a bit stronger than mana and felt heavier.
With no more items to identify, I tucked away most of the items in my [Item Box] instead of my pouch, and keep [The Crimson Mark], [Veil and Mirage], and [The Witches' Primer] outside and requested Mirelle to stand guard and rest in this room.
"Mirelle, lets rest in this room for now. We've been walking around this around for quite a bit, but please guard the door as I read. Thank you"
"Mii~" Mirelle doing its usual noise as it responded to my words excitedly.
I carefully took the tome out of the holster and sat down a bit farther from the door and read on the table where I had identified the items from the chest and slowly open [The Witches' Primer] and read through the first page of the tome which was the table of contents, and seeing the amount of content in it, it was no wonder the book was this thick.
On the first page was an introduction to the witches. Intrigued, I continued to read through the whole introduction of the witches and was both surprised and shock at the class that I had gotten and was baffled by its power, and when I was done with the introduction, I picked up my pace and quickly read the next part of the book, which was the history of witches, and upon reading this part, I could not help but again be shock at the contents of the book and at the class I had gain
Now the items in the chest had made sense, [Veil and Mirage], [The Crimson Mark] and finally this book However, what didn't make sense was how it was all here in the dungeon. But from what I could tell from the book and from my intuition. There wasn't any danger in the class itself, or would it bring me troubles as the items that I had just found were items to hide my identity as a witch from others and I know that I'll find out the reason in time.
According to both the introductory pages and the histories of witches in this book, the witches were a class that was made by the Gods from a time where Gods walked among the people, and when the people created by the Gods had the blood of the Gods flowing through them. At first there was only a few witches, as the world wasn't that big but as it got bigger, so did the witches to a certain extent.
Witches were made to not only help in either managing the world and the creatures that entered this world as well as the creatures made by the Gods. Helping or lending a helping hand to the Harbingers of Winter, Summer, Spring and Autumn. Keeping the either the spiritual creatures, special creatures, or just creatures of different regions and continent contained at its designated location. Protecting and managing the borders of the worlds, Managing any supernatural and unseen events or occurrences in the world and many more.
And the Witch class wasn't just a regular class. It was a class made by the Gods so it was an Origin Class, which was a type of class that was not derive from another class and was a class that was close to the Gods. It was an unobtainable class that could only be granted by the Gods, but as time went on and the number of witches were going down due to being hunted by other people in fear of their power, or people simply choosing to live a life different from their predecessor, it was thanks to this that the class made by the Gods were now obtainable. While it was now obtainable, it was still difficult and was still an Origin Class.
There were many ways to obtain a witch class according to the tome, from apprenticeship from a witch, acknowledgements from various types of beings like Gods, other Witches or people or beings from the bottom of their hearts and many more. How I obtained the class was thanks to two reasons. One was thanks to the ring and another would be my lifestyle itself or that the Goddess recognized me as a person thanks to being summoned and reincarnated into this world.
Still, with the number of things that I had just found out had baffled me for quite a bit, and stunned me in place not knowing what to do with all this information, still it had gotten me quite curious on many things about this world including witches and the Origin Class. It didn't mention much asides from those things.
Brimming with newfound curiosity, I keep reading and flipping back and forth through the book, making sure to not miss any details but from what I could tell, the rest of the information inside the book was various types of skills, techniques and recipes that one could learn as a witch with greater proficiency than other class but they were all introductory types and beginner types.
If I wanted to learn more or a more advance versions of these recipes, techniques, and skills of varying degrees I either had to research them myself, look for spiritual beings for guidance, look for other witches to guide me, and lastly to look for more books containing this type of information scattered and most likely hidden in this world.
Having read through all the contents of the tome, I gently stood up from the table and carefully placed [The Witches' Primer] back into my [Item Box] and took the book [Dungeons] back out and tucked it away into the book holster. Standing still for a moment, I pondered for a moment on what to do next aside from delving deeper into the dungeon and getting out of the forest...
Thinking for a moment, I gave up on creating a sort of grand goal or dream, but simply had made up my mind to find out more about the witches and its skills with Mirelle. I was told to live the way I wanted, there's no need to go out of my way to save the world, when the Goddess herself didn't mention it.
For now, with my mind at ease, I said to Mirelle as I started walking to the door to get back out into the dungeon's corridor.
"Mirelle, let's get going I'm all done here. I can study the skills in [The Witches' Primer] some other time. I still want to see what else we can discover in the dungeon."
"Mii~!" Mirelle excitedly made the usual noise in respond to my words.
