Chapter 12: Chapter 11
As the ages passed my life was never dull. But my happiness came to an end when Arman stopped at Arcan. I knew that guardian marshal retaliated for my continued defiance. The locals dropped in to sneak a peek. One recognized me but couldn't do anything since legally I was declared Killed in Action. But regardless the news spread. Soon Cu rāutate sent an envoy requesting my arrest. I had chosen to flee instead of serving so according to the law I was a criminal. The governor made it clear that I am a citizen of this library so they have no jurisdiction. I was legally declared a conscientious objector so leaving the war is lawfully allowed. It turns out that Cu rāutate was trying to figure out the formula to make more people like me. But I refused. The fire guards came and were warned that harming anyone on board is an arrestable offense. I disembarked with a civil rights lawyer and she was able to prove that I wasn't conscripted as a soldier so legally I can leave. The government demanded my blood for testing. Because apparently the higher ups were supposed to get the multiple element abilities but like everyone else they got one. Now they want to figure out what formula I got so they can replicate it. So the lower class gets one or no ability while the upper ranks and royalty get multiple abilities. I was a class C civilian. Which means I am a mix of refugees who mingled with locals. That denotes that I am not really recognized as a local. But recognized for having a blood relative living on the planet.
I tried to use a legal loophole to have myself deported but unfortunately it was denied. Since I had served the intergalactic aid department I am registered as an Arcan. After my lawyer spent time with the intergalactic court system I was granted dual citizenship. Also Arcan was warned not to take my blood to figure out ways to make trouble or they might attract another war. A war apparently started when the Arcan royal army blasted an Oblix freighter by mistake. It seems their intelligence said that the Mangalers were seen in the area. The princess Mareena requested the reason for my youthful looks. I said, "Think positive and hard work." The Arcan had to apologize publicly for the mistake. Now the court warned them to leave me alone to face consequences. As if they listen to anyone other than themselves. They jumped on me right outside of the courthouse. I was incapacitated and dragged to the Arcan military research facility. I was given a paralytic to make sure I can't save myself. I was poked prodded and examined at length. I had enough of this oppression so I focused on setting the place on fire. But the place was fire proof. So I had to focus on the metal. I managed to manipulate metal to rip out of the wall and form a knife. Swiftly it sliced through the intravenous tube with ease. A few hours later I felt mobility in my upper body. I plucked out the various implements in my body. An alarm went off so I jumped off my bed and crawled out of there as fast my arms would let me. I quietly made it to the closet outside my room. I waited for a moment then I used seismic waves to get a good impression of the complex. I used earth manipulation to reach my destination. And I stuck my head to see them trying to understand why I could do what I do. A man in uniform asked if they have all my biological samples. The tech asked why. The response was that Cu rāutate deserved one since it was they who found me. He was told to prep a sample as an official was waiting by the lobby. I was filled with rage and somehow every biological sample in the lab began to boil and evaporate. The equipment began to dissolve into a puddle and the walls began to turn into sponge.
I felt a drop of hot metal seat my skin and I realized it was time to go. As I tried to relax and catch my breath I heard the announcement to lockdown the facility. So I used earth manipulation to sink myself to the earth and till I hit a sweet water reserve that traversed underneath the facility. The water immediately healed my burns as it took me for a ride. After a few steep drops and a few tailspins later I got myself out of the water to catch my breath. I used one of the three skills that Gran taught me to identify any sort of bug in my body. It took me a few dozen tries to do so. I finally pulled it out and melted it. Then I used the water to take me elsewhere. I used seismic waves to map my direction. I found a small hut that I know serves as an emergency communicator by the army. I used it to activate my ship the Lexicon. It sent a message that it will be in eighteen hours. So all I had to do was lay low. I focused on restoring the feeling back to my legs. The working radio in the hut said that the planetary security sent scanning bots to find me. I had to make myself invisible again and sank into the earth till I found a metal pipe. I hid under it till I felt safe. I kept staring at my time piece as the second ticking away felt like an eon. The scanning bots did their business and went away. So I went back up knowing no one was coming. Still numb below the weight I quietly made a prayer that my ship would come sooner. I had given it specific instructions that the moment it gets out of the space bridge it better go in ghost mode and come here. It had to travel so fast that it would be undetected by the scanners. So at the last light dipped below the horizon my ship came at light speed.
It stopped a few feet away from me. It scanned me and flew to my aid. The ship has indents on the side to use as steps so climbing it was easier than I imagined. The comms blared that they had detected a ship in my general direction. So they are sending armed forces to find out who is here as they lock-down the planet. I threw the comms out the ship and sped towards the sky. I saw that they were activating the aurora protocol. It a series of hexagonal bots projecting a shield to prevent anyone from leaving or entering. Once activated no one goes in and no one goes out. So I asked the ship to go faster because we were going to get trapped. The ship sped out at the speed of light as the shield tried to align in perfect rows each a few feet apart. As I zipped out past these bots a plasma bolt almost hit my ship. I activated the laser shield and watched as my ship initiated the star bridge and got us to Arman. I barely got to see the aurora protocol burst out with a pale violet light. It sliced three gunships in half as it went into full power. The scenery changed as I travelled through the stars. The view was beautiful. Space was the darkest blue. There were different systems painted in different colors. It was like a canvas. One system looked like a red rose in full bloom. I saw a black hole and a quasar. The quietness of space was weird but I liked it. There was a knocking sound and it was coming from a star. There was the view of the asteroid belt. Afterwards the bridge opened to where Arman was. The porter master opened the gate to let me in. I was taken to the medical center as my ship was sent to storage. The security bot was waiting till the others examined me.
The intergalactic court was informed of my current condition as a result my citizenship of Arcan was rescinded. After a thorough examination they were able to figure how to heal my paralyzed legs. A day and a half later I was walking to my house. The bot gave me my storage key and escorted me to my house. The house wasn't ransacked like last time. I was told that I won't be able to go back to Arcan ever again. I was relieved to hear that. I thanked him and went to sleep. I was given the next day off so I cleaned up my house and stepped out to the library. I was given a tablet since visiting the library was forbidden. I was told that I could take it home permanently if I have any useful information that the library could benefit from. I gave them details about what I learned on the horticultural planet. The collective intelligence that focused on saving the planet. Planting trees, converting bitter undrinkable water to sweet palatable water. The methods of architecture where the use of electrical appliances were made minimal. The harmonious symbiotic relationship the people had developed to save their planet. I walked back to my ship and collected the data stored about the planet Tetra terrain on the Olivian district. I even checked the language section and found out that they don't have the Morganite language and the Arcan language. So I spent what free time I had to upload any and all data on all languages I knew. So as a reward for my contribution I got a hall pass to download the entire library. The cyborg in charge of the library's upkeep came with a small pocket watch. He said that this will open only with my biometrics. He scanned my fingers to be sure.
The guardian marshal stared angrily. It turns out she was fired. She was replaced by an Octillion. A six armed man with scaly skin that changes color depending on the situation. This was amusing to see. I was told to go back to the garden. I happily skipped my way to the garden. I started plucking out the weeds. And started searching the plants for any sign of disease or infections. Then proceeded to water the plants. Then I went home to study the languages in a storage device the cyborg gave me. The device had detailed information about machines and to fix them. And also how rig things. I spent hours listening to the device and then I went to the scrap yard. Yes this place has a scrap yard where certain unrepairable items end up tossed. The person who discards the item must swear that they have renounced it completely. I chose a Quintanilla scout ship. The bot was pleased by my choice and gave me an empty space to repair the thing. It has a unique arrowhead shape with a slanted cockpit cover. Narrow in the front but wider towards the back. The surface was painted dark gray with a matte finish. A cursory examination told me that the ship had a few damaged parts that needed to be replaced. So I took sculpting sand and molded the parts before melting the metal recycling the parts. After the fix I found out that the ship's central computer was damaged. After searching the archives I discovered a cyborg that had a similar system to the Quintanilla. So after systemically replacing the parts all that was needed was refueling. I took it for a spin. Just a round trip around Arman. The junk bot asked me to name my new ship. I named it stargazer.
