Chapter 63: Agents of Chaos - Blood Ties - Sisters(Z)
[A/N: Hello everyone.
First, I'd like to clarify that this chapter was going to include the next one, but when I wrote both mini-stories, I started writing nonstop and only realized I was 5,000 words into both stories, so I separated them.
Can you guess who they are?]

.
Friday, November 20, 2026, somewhere downtown.
"Krista, what are we going to do now?" a 12-year-old girl playfully asked her older sister.
"Abigail, I've told you many times to call me Kris or just sister... or, why not better? The one who pays all your bills," Kris told her, slightly wrinkling her nose as she stared at her.
"Don't call me Abigail either, just Abi," the girl grumbled, crossing her arms and pouting.
They both glanced at each other.
They tried to keep their serious facade, but neither of them could hold back their laughter.
"Hahahaha"
"Hahahaha"
They both laughed until they cried, holding their stomachs, trying to control the uncontrollable.
"Ugh... Kris, I haven't laughed this hard since that fool at the gas station thought he'd get a reward for that fake ring," Abi said, wiping a tear that fell down her cheek from uncontrollable laughter.
"Watch your language, little one... Who did you learn that from?" she asked, then took a sip of her strawberry smoothie.
"From you."
"That's right... As for what we'll do now..." Kris mused, stirring her smoothie. "I don't really know... We still have money from our 'jobs' in the previous city... We could have some fun in this city for a while, but as things are, it's better to just take a break for a few days, and if things get complicated, we can leave the city," she commented in a boring tone.
"It's true, there's nothing fun around here... Although if you had supported my idea of going to the protest and breaking a few things, we'd be laughing about it now," Abi said with a natural uncharacteristic of a girl her age.
"I would never let you go to a protest... At least not until you're 16."
"You're so boring."
"Yeah, whatever... Now that I think about it, these marches are a bit strange, don't you think?" she asked her sister.
"The truth is, I find it strange too. Yesterday I saw some videos of protests all over the country and even abroad... It doesn't make sense for something like this to happen all over the world at the same time... Unless a world war is coming, don't you think?" Abi asked back, feigning a mysterious tone.
"Hahahaha... You need to stop watching social media videos, little one, it's rotting your brain."
"Don't call me little one," Abi complained.
"Okay, don't get mad... What do you want to do today?" Kris asked her sister, changing the subject.
"Mmmm... We could go to an arcade. It's been a long time since we went. Besides, I'm bored of playing on my phone," she replied, her eyes sparkling at the mention of the arcade.
"That sounds like a good idea... Plus, we can go to the movies, I think there's a horror movie that's to die for... Hahahaha."
At the cinema, in the afternoon.
"You said it was a horror movie," Abi complained to Kris, annoyed.
"People die in this movie, don't they?" Kris said with a mocking tone, pointing to the poster that read: 'The Hunger Games: Dawn of the Harvest'.
"But I thought it would be something bloody like Scream or Resident Evil," she grumbled as she handed her tickets to the young man working at the cinema.
"Enjoy the movie."
They both walked on as Abi continued to complain to Kris about her movie choice.
When they entered, they noticed how few people were present in that theater.
There were some people in the most popular spots. Others chose more distant seats. There were even couples taking advantage of the moment to enjoy their intimacy.
"Are you sure it's a premiere?" Abi asked.
"Mmmm... how strange, maybe it's because of the protest," Kris said, confused.
"I told you it was better not to come to the downtown cinemas," Abi told her sister in an ironic tone.
"But you wanted to go to an arcade too, and there's one downstairs... I chose this place so we wouldn't have to travel too much," Kris explained, sitting in her assigned seat.
"I just hope the protest ends soon, or else you'll have to pay for a very expensive hotel near here," Abi said, glancing at her sister who widened her eyes.
"What?! Expensive hotel? Dream on!"
Two hours later.
"The movie is pretty good; I haven't seen anything like it... Can you imagine them making another movie set many years after this one?" Abi asked, taking the last sip of her soda.
"They already did that," Kris said, looking at her sister as if she were stupid.
"I didn't know that, how was I supposed to know this was an adaptation of a very old movie?" Abi asked, annoyed by her sister's gaze.
"The first movie isn't old. I think it premiered in 2012," Kris said.
"I was born two years later," Abi commented, looking at her sister with a smug look.
"Vrrr! Vrrr!" both their cell phones vibrated.
An alert message appeared on their phones, reminding them that the city government had imposed a curfew due to the violent protests that occurred that day.
They looked around and noticed that all the other people in the movie theater were also looking at their phones in disbelief.
"I told you... Tonight we're sleeping in a hotel," Abi whispered to her sister, showing a big smile, but it was clear she was mocking her sister.
"Let's go quickly, maybe we can still get out of here before the military arrives," Kris said, grabbing Abi's arm and dragging her out of the theater.
They both began to walk through the mall, going down a few floors.
On the way, they encountered a large crowd of people leaving stores and walking quickly towards the exit or towards the mall's parking lot.
Kris and Abi took the first option.
They both pushed their way out through the frightened crowd.
There were desperate people running with bags full of supplies.
To their surprise, there were people who, instead of leaving the mall to avoid being stranded by the curfew, were heading quickly to the supermarkets inside the mall to look for food and other things.
Every entrance to the mall was chaotic, and the same situation was happening in the nearby streets.
Honking, shouting, and arguments.
People are running everywhere. Some carrying large bags with supplies, others carrying televisions and consoles.
Police are trying to solve traffic jams, prevent people from fighting, and stop people from entering stores without respecting the curfew.
There were people looking suspiciously at the police, as if waiting for a moment of carelessness on their part to carry out whatever they were planning.

[A/N: In my case, if I had to steal in those situations, I would do it, but only out of necessity. Like Gerry did in WWZ.]

.
"How could things get so bad so fast?" Abi asked Kris, both speaking as they looked around cautiously.
"I don't know," Kris replied, hearing some gunshots in the nearby streets in the background. "But it doesn't seem good."
"Look over there, there's fire," Abi said, pointing to the smoke visible between the buildings.
"Yes, it's fire, but don't worry, it seems pretty far away," Kris assured her, trying not to scare her sister who didn't seem to notice how dangerous the situation was.
"What about the gunshots?" she asked ironically.
Kris looked at her little sister, noticing that she was looking at her as if she were stupid, just as she had looked at her before. Now she realized that her little sister had already noticed the seriousness of the matter from the beginning.
"You already knew?" Abi asked.
"I noticed everything was wrong when the message came... You don't have to be a genius to know that the situation must be very complicated to establish a curfew," Abi replied.
"Hahahaha... and I was trying not to scare you," Kris commented ironically.
"What will we do then, genius?" Abi asked.
"We'll try to get away from the city center in the car. If we can't get out, we'll leave it somewhere and look for a cheap hotel to spend the night in... Surely everything will be resolved by morning," Kris replied.
"An expensive one," Abi corrected, unperturbed.
"Why?"
"Because you were the one who chose to come downtown just to see a movie."
"But you said..."
"Let's get out of here first," Abi interrupted.
The roles had been reversed. Abi seemed like the older sister, while Kris just accepted this fact as if it were normal.
They both quickly walked to the car that was parked on a nearby street.
On the way, the situation didn't change; they kept watching people running everywhere. They also saw the military starting to support the police. They even witnessed a few minor car accidents.
"We finally made it," Abi said, sitting in the car.
"I thought we'd get robbed on the way," Kris commented sarcastically.
"If we got robbed, you'd probably rob them back or convince them to give everything back and give us extra compensation for emotional damage," Abi said with a mocking tone.
"You're taking advantage of the chaos, little one," Kris said, noticing that her sister was more unbearable because of all the chaos surrounding them.
Kris drove the car without wasting time arguing with her sister.
She joined the long line of cars waiting to leave the city center, but as they both expected, it was impossible to get out of this traffic jam.
The military and police tried to direct traffic, but every time they advanced a little, a new accident delayed the rest.
Some people parked their cars on the sides and started walking.
After half an hour and only covering a little over a block, Kris decided to follow the example of other drivers and left her car on the side of the street.
"What are you doing?" Abi asked, putting her phone aside; a news reporter's report came from it.
"We're going to leave the car here. We'll try to walk a bit, and if we can't, we'll go into a hotel to stay in for the night," Kris replied.
"But there are good hotels around here, why don't we just stay in one of these?" Abi asked her sister, pointing to the large nearby buildings with an expectant look.
"We're not going to spend our savings just to sleep in an expensive place... By the way, what are you watching?" Kris asked, noticing that besides the reporter's voice, emergency sirens were now sounding from her sister's phone.
"I was watching a reporter from a streaming channel in this city who is showing the army's intervention in a city hospital. Apparently, they've been in that hospital since Sunday. First, they isolated an area due to a supposed virus spread from the hospital, but yesterday they already had a third of the hospital closed, and now people are complaining to the soldiers about this excessive act," Abi recounted, showing her sister the young reporter.
"Wow, this city is getting out of control. We're leaving immediately tomorrow," Kris commented in a serious tone.
"I want to leave too, but I remind you that similar things are happening all over the country... It looks like we'll have to postpone the trip to the amusement park again," Abi said in a disheartened tone.
"I promised you I'd take you, and I'll make it happen... When all this is over, we're going to that park," Kris assured her, looking directly into her sister's eyes, showing her determination.
After parking the car, they began to walk away from the city center, but as they advanced, they began to notice the presence of some groups of protesters.
They both walked with great caution.
Abi continued watching the streaming broadcast, while Kris checked the map application to try to find a place to spend the night.
Suddenly, they heard gunshots ringing from Abi's phone.
They both stopped, watching intently what was happening on the broadcast.
On the screen, a group of people was seen emerging from within the area secured by the army and beginning to confront them. However, the most shocking thing was that the military opened fire on these people without hesitation.
Chaos began to reign in the streets focused by the reporter.
People screamed desperately, thinking they would be the next to be shot down.
Some braver ones began to shout at the soldiers to stop or even threw things at them, trying to stop them.
They were both paralyzed with fear.
For a moment they thought that instead of watching a live broadcast, they were watching a crazy apocalypse movie.
What they hadn't noticed was that a group of people had escaped the attack of a couple of strange creatures, emerging from a nearby alley.
Those people ran past Kris and Abi but did not alert them to the presence of these strangely acting individuals.
They were still looking at the phone when a hand grabbed Abi's shoulder very tightly.
Abi turned around, annoyed.
She was about to scream, when she noticed that this person's face had traces of blood.
She froze in fear.
One of the things the military was attacking in the broadcast had appeared in front of her.
The grip tightened and the creature moved menacingly closer to Abi.
"Kr... Kris... Help... me," Abi whispered, terrified.
Kris reacted in an instant. Without thinking twice, she pushed with all her might the creature holding her sister. The creature, surprised by the push, let go of Abi and stepped back, growling.
"Abi, run!" Kris shouted, stepping between her sister and the creature.
Her mind was racing, trying to process what her eyes were seeing. It wasn't a movie, it was real. The gunshots they heard on the phone, the people running, everything took on a horrifying meaning.
Abi, still in shock, managed to move her legs and stepped back a few paces, stumbling. The creature, with spasmodic movements, tried to lunge at Kris, but she was faster.
She had noticed a piece of metal lying on the ground, perhaps part of a sign or an ornament from a business. She quickly picked it up, feeling the cold weight in her hand.
Just then, more growls were heard from the alley. Two more figures, with the same pale skin and erratic movements, emerged from the darkness, joining the first creature. The street, which before seemed only chaotic due to traffic and protesters, now felt like a death trap.
"Kris, behind you!" Abi shouted, regaining some of her voice and pointing behind her sister.
Another creature was stealthily approaching Kris from behind, attracted by the noise.
Kris spun sharply, dodging the clumsy attack. The piece of metal in her hand felt heavy, but she had no other choice. Adrenaline pumped through her veins, silencing the fear for a moment and replacing it with a primal need to protect her sister.
"We have to get out of here, now!" Kris said in a firm voice, though her heart was pounding.
She knew they couldn't face those things. Their only chance was to run, find shelter, and hope the nightmare would end. But the city, once a refuge, had now become a labyrinth of horrors.

[A/N: CHAPTER COMPLETED
Thanks everyone for reading.
I hope you enjoyed it.
These characters, which you already know (I think), will appear in some other chapters, and another character related to this franchise will also appear.
I actually started writing their backstory, and when I realized I was already 800 words into this, I thought I'd create a chapter that would allow me to describe the reaction of two normal people to chaos in the city center.
Something similar will happen in the next chapter.
