chapter 2
2
In Count Simon’s luxurious mansion, a fourteen-year-old boy slowly opened his eyes.
“Ugh, my head is spinning; where am I?”
Gu Ming looked around curiously observing everything around him. a bed large enough for several people, ceramic vases over a meter tall, ceilings adorned with white plaster. all signs indicating he was in a place belonging to someone very wealthy indeed.
“Is anyone there?” Gu Ming called out loudly around him.
Bang! The door opened and two women dressed as maids approached him,
“Does young master Gu Ming have any instructions?”
Hearing their words made Gu Ming start pondering.
“Are they calling me? They must be, since I’m the only Gu Ming here. Could it be that I’ve become the young master of this place?” Gu Ming pondered with a smirk.
As Gu Ming was lost in thought, two maids stood trembling beside him, fearfully awaiting his orders.
For a moment, Gu Ming couldn’t figure out which character from the game he had become. Deciding not to dwell on it, he began observing the maids next to him. Pleasing to the eye indeed; both were above average in looks. quite beautiful.
“Ah, in my past life at 22 I didn’t even have a girlfriend. Who would have thought that upon arriving in this other world I’d instantly become a wealthy young master? Not only achieving financial freedom but also gifted with two maids. Life is truly unpredictable.”
While Gu Ming was reflecting on life’s ironies, a mature female voice suddenly echoed in his mind:
“Moshi moshi, boy, can you hear me? I’m going to transfer your current identity’s memories to you now. After reviewing them make sure no one is around before receiving the surprise prepared for you.”
After the message ended, numerous foreign memories flooded into Gu Ming’s mind. Having reviewed them all made him feel less enthusiastic about his sudden windfall.
“No way! Have I really become that psychopathic and useless villain? Oh no! Can’t we switch?”
The person Gu Ming had transformed into was Krite Lance. a notorious villain from within the game. a spoiled son of an earl who committed atrocities everywhere he went. Worse still was that this villain fervently worshipped demons. a fact which if discovered by human kingdoms would lead straight to execution.
In the original story after Leo. the hero. defeats a bully during an early quest scenario and then moves onto punishing Krite (the original character), Krite harbors evil thoughts influenced by demons and seeks revenge against Leo as a demon worshipper; ultimately meeting his end when slain by his own sister. an outcome arguably deserved given his actions.
Moreover Krite’s father Simon also suffered due to these misdeeds; although spared death he lived out his days demoted and alone as a commoner after being stripped of nobility by the king.
Having absorbed these memories left Gu Ming feeling overwhelmed as he started planning how best to live out this new life:
“I definitely don’t want any part of this mess. I should escape now while I can because staying alive is most important!”
…
As Gu Ming contemplated escape plans inside; outside
Upon hearing Gu Ming’s words, the two maids not only failed to feel joy but instead fell to their knees in greater panic, kowtowing as they pleaded,
“Master, spare our lives, please spare us.”
Gu Ming, seeing their reaction, understood why they acted so and with a sigh, his tone turned stern,
“I wish to change maids. Go to the steward, take ten gold coins and then leave quickly. Remember to ask the steward for a carriage, and hurry away.”
“Yes, Master,”
they replied, and with tears, the two maids left.
Watching their retreating figures, Gu Ming felt a pang of reluctance,
“Farewell, my exclusive maids whom I’ve lost before I could even enjoy. I hope you find better days ahead.”
Calming his own emotions, Gu Ming turned his attention to something else,
“Now, let’s see what this surprise is.”
Sitting cross-legged on the bed, he silently chanted the activation in his mind, only to find nothing happened. He tapped his head, puzzled,
“Could it be I’m opening it wrong? ‘Open sesame,’ ‘release the seal,’ ‘spicy by nature,’ ‘activate the primordial spirit’… But it’s written right there, just chant silently to activate it, isn’t it?”
As Gu Ming opened his eyes, having gained nothing, a phantom image suddenly appeared before him,
“Hello, hello, can you hear me? Ahem,”
the woman in the black dress continued, using her hand as a microphone,
“Alright, let me explain your current situation. First, your name hasn’t changed, and second, the body you’re in now isn’t the original owner’s. Your body was reconstructed using your world’s DNA, but since the fantasy continent’s genes would conflict with those of your world, the bloodline remains the original’s. That’s why your abilities are still somewhat limited. However, to compensate for this loss, I’ll occasionally send you some items. Oh, and there’s a free perk. As the villain I’ve chosen, your face certainly can’t be lacking, so I’ve made a tiny adjustment to your face. Doesn’t it feel like you’re handsomer, almost unrecognizable from your former self?”
Gu Yuan picked up a mirror from the table beside him,
and to his shock, he found himself with the face of a boy in his teens.
“Oh, right, I forgot to tell you, you haven’t grown up yet. The point in time you were transported to is four years before the story begins. You’d better make good use of this time.”
Gu Ming was delighted. With four years until the story began, wouldn’t distancing himself from this place now perfectly avoid the hero? The more Gu Ming thought about it, the more feasible it seemed.
“Oh right, you came to this world with a mission that is closely related to you.
Mission: To vie for the fortune of this world. The sources of fortune could be support from natives, your own reputation, fortuitous treasures, and so on. Simply put, the stronger and more famous you become, the more fortune I gain. and this is also linked to the quality of items I send over. So keep it up young man! Oh yes, there’s also this. “
A blue panel appeared before Gu Ming:
Name: Gu Ming
Soul Power: 5
Level: 3
Equipment: None
Occupation: Commoner
Skills:
– Fantasy Harvest (Gain experience by killing creatures from Fantasy Continent)
– Sealed Tablet (Contains three powerful creatures that will serve as your loyal servants; however be cautious not to summon them if your soul power is insufficient as it may backfire and cost you your life)
– Unexpected Gift (An entity can send items intermittently)
Backpack: None
“Hmm let me think if there’s anything else… Oh yes! One last thing. young man don’t even dream about avoiding the hero. That bespectacled b*tch has already issued a revelation through the holy sword; once the hero finds you and if you’re defenseless. you’re dead meat! And don’t think for a second that joining forces with Demon King’s army would make them allies; seeking their help would just foolishly clear their names.
Remember. a true villain typically stands alone so strive to survive!”
Then suddenly, his vision faded away.
“Damn it! This isn’t fair play at all. I was told we’d play Three Kingdoms Kill but turns out I’m alone being hunted down by everyone else trying to smash my equipment. this difficulty level is way too high!”
Gu Ming grumbled in self-pity but eventually resigned himself to his current situation.
“Well… Guess I’ll have to take things one step at a time now. it looks like I can only rely on myself.”
Luckily he had an advantage over both demon lords and heroes due to his foresight. the situation wasn’t all bad yet.
“Let me think about who are important characters in early stages of games…”
