Chapter 9
Chapter 9: Dark Demon Accidentally Entered the Mana Lair
Professor Kazel, who has goblin blood and is an alchemy master, teaches Mana Theory!
In an era where mana technology gradually replaces ancient alchemy techniques, Professor Kazel’s position is somewhat awkward.
However, this does not hinder his mastery of mana technology.
Professor Kazel did not delve into overly complex knowledge during the first class of Mana Theory but only introduced the basic knowledge of Mana Cards to the students.
Mana Cards are divided into five major categories: Elemental Cards, Magic Spell Cards, Item Cards, Field Cards, and Secret Rite Cards.
Beyond these, there are also Divine Cards and Mystery Cards!
Divine Cards are those with “divine power.”
Mystery Cards refer to “unknown cards!”
In this class, Professor Kazel mainly discussed Elemental Cards.
Elemental Cards can summon mana spirits!
There are seven main data points for Elemental Cards:
① True Name: Only by calling out the true name can the mana spirit be summoned.
② Level: The level of the elemental spirit is represented by stars, ordinary summoning spells can only summon spirits from one star to four stars, while those above four stars require special summoning spells for advancement.
③ Race: There are fifteen races for elemental spirits, including Human, Subhuman, Dragon, Angel, Demon, Undead, Elemental, Fairy, Mechanical, Insect, Reptile, Avian-beast, Plant, Fish, and Phantom God.
④ Attribute: Elemental Cards have twenty attributes, including Normal, Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Ice, Fighting, Poison, Ground, Flying, Psychic, Bug, Rock, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, Steel, Fairy, Light, and Dark.
⑤ Mana: Mana serves as both the life value and the energy for ultimate skills; once the mana reaches zero, the mana spirit will vanish, and it cannot be summoned again until its mana is fully replenished.
⑥ Attack and Defense: The attack and defense capabilities of the elemental spirit are displayed through numerical values.
⑦ Ultimate Skill: The skill of the elemental spirit, which requires mana consumption to use. White cards have no skills, blue cards have one skill, purple cards have two skills, and orange cards have three skills.
…
To make the explanation more vivid, Professor Kazel took out an Elemental Card as a demonstration and summoned a white giant python emanating deep cold frost!
The reptilian, ice attribute, four-star giant python frightened the new students who had arrived without knowing respect.
…
As the Mana Theory class ended, the new students rushed out of the classroom like they were freed, heading in groups towards the cafeteria.
For students of this age, the Mana Theory class was indeed somewhat dull.
But Dark listened very attentively!
Even before the class ended, he saw the prompt “Greed +1”!
Then he realized that greed was a desire that surpassed ordinary desires and came from within.
His desire to alleviate the current predicament was seen as greed.
Even when he occasionally daydreamed during class, it didn’t help!
This completely overturned his theory about daydreaming.
But this time, he did gain something.
The number of races and attributes of Mana Cards, especially Elemental Cards, exceeded his imagination!
Among them, the Angelic and Phantom God races possess sacred powers.
“The Phantom God is said to be exclusive to Divine Cards, and there are only a few in the world. But the Angelic is just a rare race. If I could get one or two Angelic Elemental Cards…”
Using the sacred power to counteract the power of demon gods is common sense in any world.
Dark felt he might have found a clue.
But Professor Kazel clearly told them that in Saint Maryann Academy, both teachers and students can only use mana cards they themselves have created.
That means—
If he wanted to purify himself using an Angelic Elemental Card, he would have to make it himself.
This was too difficult!
…
Carrying some worry, Dark went to the cafeteria for a simple yet not simple lunch, then returned to his bedroom to prepare for a short nap to replenish his energy for the afternoon potion class.
Because Diana had Rose as a friend, she didn’t bother him anymore, which made him feel relieved.
But after sleeping for only half an hour, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his heart and woke up startled.
A “Laziness +1” prompt quietly appeared.
“Damn!”
[Wrath +1]
“Can’t even take a nap?”
Dark looked at the clock and couldn’t help but smile bitterly: “Looks like I’ll have to set an alarm for naps from now on, no more than half an hour! No sleeping past six in the morning, and no naps longer than half an hour… what kind of top ten good youth am I?”
Dark called up the system and checked the capital sin indicators.
[Pride: 93]
[Envy: 42]
[Wrath: 95]
[Laziness: 72]
[Greed: 74]
[Gluttony: 54]
[Bliss: 75]
They generally showed an upward trend.
Especially the “Wrath” indicator!
Although the “Wrath” indicator is the most volatile among the seven deadly sins, once the anger subsides, it will decrease somewhat.
But it was still two points higher than when he started.
This was not a good sign.
Dark simply got up, put the potion book in his bag, and prepared to go to the Common Room to read.
Originally, he wanted to go to the library to look up information about Imp Beasts to complete the assignment for the summoning class.
But thinking it over, since there was only about an hour left before the afternoon class, he decided to wait until after the potion class to go to the library.
Who knows, the professor might assign homework that requires checking the library?
“Wait, if I spend a long time searching for information but can’t find anything, and I really want to finish the assignment and keep searching… could the ‘Greed’ indicator explode?”
“It won’t, right…”
…
With a faint worry, Dark faced his third class of the day.
Since he had studied moderately beforehand, his performance in this third class was still good.
Professor Thompson from the potion class wasn’t like Snape; he not only praised him but also gave him extra credits.
Mana Card production requires potions, so being uncommitted is not acceptable!
But Professor Thompson didn’t mention the potions that interested him, so it didn’t touch the “Greed” indicator.
After these three classes,
Both professors and students looked at him differently.
…
Dark tried to reduce interactions with his classmates, and as soon as class was over, he went to the library.
The library is managed by the slightly plump Ms. Bella, but the daily administrator is a senior female student.
This senior girl with long black hair was too much for Dark to handle, so he didn’t dare look too long, signed in, and quickly entered the library.
“How cute the new student is,” Pandora said, covering her mouth and smiling gently at the delicate-looking “shy” little boy.
…
Little did Dark know, who was hiding behind the bookshelf, was clutching his heart and breathing heavily.
The “Bliss +1” prompt made him define this library as a Mana Lair!
