Chapter 6
Chapter 6: Dark Demon’s Unyielding Desire for Knowledge
The temperature in September had already started to drop. The chilly morning breeze at Saint Maryann Academy was as cold as the indifferent world, beautiful yet freezing.
Shivering from the cold!
Dark could never have imagined that the desire for knowledge could also be considered “greed”!
Has this Demon God bloodline become so shameless in order to awaken?
What should I do now?
Should I still read the book?
Should I still attend class?
Laziness and diligence.
Thirst for knowledge and greed.
How can these be balanced?
Is it because I, Dark, study too seriously?
Or is it because I spend too much time studying?
Dark looked up at the cuckoo clock above the fireplace, realizing it was already 7:20.
“I’ve probably studied for about sixty-five minutes, but I truly entered a state of focus within fifty minutes. It’s only after prolonged reading that I gradually developed a strong desire to gain more related knowledge.”
“When desire becomes so intense that it cannot be satisfied, it turns into greed.”
“But generally speaking, people rarely reach that level.”
Dark was aware of his limitations; he knew he wasn’t someone who thirsted for knowledge endlessly.
So, it must be that after the Demon God bloodline entered the awakening phase, it lowered the threshold for triggering the capital sin indicators significantly!
Assuming others need a level 10 desire to be seen as greedy,
he only needs a level 9, or even 8, or 7, to be considered greedy!
Therefore, it’s not that he couldn’t study.
It’s just that he shouldn’t immerse himself too deeply in his studies!
Ordinary classes and completing homework should still fall within acceptable limits.
Active learning and passive learning are certainly different.
To determine if this is true, several small experiments were needed.
Dark took a deep breath. His greed index was 73, leaving ample room for multiple attempts.
Foolish people might choose to retreat at this moment.
Intelligent people would seek out suitable methods.
[+1 Pride]
(???)?
Dark closed his textbook. The common room was already crowded, but he had been engrossed in his studies and hadn’t noticed.
After packing up his books, Dark slung his shoulder bag over his shoulder and walked out of the tower alone, crossing the bridge and entering the castle.
The interior of the academy’s castle was complex, but the selection card would guide him.
The cafeteria offered a rich variety of food, unlike the opening banquet last night which barely had any vegetarian options.
Dark picked some simple food and ate a decent breakfast in moderation.
Then, he followed the guidance of the selection card to find the classroom for his first class.
It was almost eight o’clock, and most new students arrived around this time.
The classroom for the summoning course was large, a tiered classroom capable of accommodating two classes.
It seemed the first lesson of the Noble Academy would be taken together with the Knight Academy’s new students.
Dark quietly made his way to the last row on the left corner by the wall, placing his bag in the drawer.
“Hey!”
Just as he sat down, the unpredictable Diana acted as if she had already decided on him, shamelessly moving close.
Dark glanced at her face, as smooth as a peeled egg, and quickly suppressed the urge to pinch it.
“Good thing I reacted quickly!”
Dark pressed his fingers and seemingly casually pointed forward.
Diana was about to sit beside him when she curiously asked, “Do you want me to sit with her?” Dark hadn’t said anything.
Diana happily replied, “She looks like she isn’t very cheerful. Diana will help her!” Dark remained silent.
Diana then ran to the front row and played the “cuddle” game with the timid-looking girl.
[+1 Envy]
“Escaped the fifteenth, but not the first.”
Dark fell silent.
…
Rose Florette was flustered by Diana’s overly enthusiastic approach.
The young girl, who had just celebrated her birthday half a month ago, had never stepped out of the castle before coming to Saint Maryann Academy.
Her parents died at the hands of the Demon King’s army. Afterward, she spent four years in an orphanage, and at age five, she was taken home by her uncle, Viscount.
Viscount and Lady had been married for ten years without children, originally thinking of adopting her as a daughter due to their blood relation. However, just six months after she entered the castle, Lady became pregnant!
Thus, Rose, who had enjoyed being treated like a princess for only half a year, once again became a burden no one cared for.
The viscount couple, unable to bring themselves to return her to the orphanage due to their pride, simply left her in the castle under the care of maids.
Three meals a day were provided, books for early education were purchased, and noble etiquette was taught, but nothing else.
She was confined to the castle’s rooms, occasionally seeing the viscount couple play with their growing cousin in the garden through the window, feeling heartache.
A person’s character is greatly influenced by their family environment. Rose gradually became introverted, fond of daydreaming, but also noticeably timid, afraid to reach out.
And then, Diana appeared before her, like a beam of light, illuminating her heart.
Rose gradually fell under Diana’s charm, and the two little girls grew close.
…
Childhood friendships are pure and hard to regain when grown up.
Dark, who inadvertently facilitated this development, found joy in it.
“Diana has a new friend. She probably won’t bother me anymore, right?”
He slightly tilted his head, letting the wind caress his face, then looked out the window in the direction the wind blew.
The lilies unique to Saint Maryann bloomed.
…
Professor Sarah Shylph, the teacher for the first-year summoning course, entered the classroom just a second before the bell rang.
The noisy classroom, filled with new students, instantly fell silent.
Not because the freshmen had closed their mouths, but because the silence brought by Professor Shylph swept through the room, making all voices disappear!
Most students in the Noble Academy had received elite pre-school education and immediately realized that Professor Shylph had used a “silence card”!
However, many in the Knight Academy did not understand this concept.
Robert, sitting next to Wit, even screamed out of fear, his cheeks turning red like a cooked lobster.
When Professor Shylph reached the lectern and lifted the silence, Robert’s scream suddenly echoed!
“Aaaaaah——”
…
“Broheim, considering it’s your first class, I won’t deduct your credits for now.”
Professor Shylph brushed her pale golden hair behind her long pointed ears, her expression indifferent.
“Before class begins, let me go over the school rules. I believe most of you haven’t seen them yet. I am Sarah Shylph, half-elf and the summoning professor at Saint Maryann Academy.”
Each class at Saint Maryann lasts ninety minutes, starting at eight in the morning. There is a thirty-minute break between classes, ending the second class at 11:30 AM. In the afternoon, there is only one class starting at two PM.
The academy uses a credit system, similar to Hogwarts, with an Academy Cup—a real Holy Grail, not just an honor!
The “Saint Maryan Holy Grail,” it is said, has existed since the founding of the academy, known for its power to fulfill wishes, also called the “Wish Cup.”
Among the four houses, the house with the highest credits gets the Academy Cup. The Wish Cup provides one wish opportunity for everyone from first to sixth year in that house.
—The inscription on the Wish Cup reads: “The greedy shall have nothing.”
