chapter 92
92. The Clown Turns Out to Be Myself
Mu Yiting was surprised; Qin Shili had actually come.
She didn’t like this woman surnamed Qin, but she still had to pretend to be the kind and obedient girl, smiling as she greeted:
“Good to see you, Senior Shi Li.”
Qin Shi Li didn’t respond, but nodded in acknowledgment, her attention mainly on Lin Nuo.
Mu Yiting had her reasons for disliking this woman. Everyone at Xuan Yun Sect treated her sweet smile with utmost respect, yet this woman remained aloof and cold, looking down on everything.
And Lin Nuo sighed. How did roasting a white dove attract the ice beauty, Qin Shi Li?
“Is there something you need?”
Lin Nuo glanced at Qin Shi Li before turning his attention back to the roasting dove.
“From what I’ve observed, you like these.”
Qin Shi Li took out a box of Hua Ji canned meat floss cakes and placed it beside Lin Nuo.
Qin Shi Li was methodical and purposeful in her actions, not blindly seeking to understand Lin Nuo. From her observations over the past few days, she had come to know some of his dietary preferences and movements. Most notably, he liked to eat meat floss cakes. She even tried them herself, found the taste acceptable, and thus had someone buy a large quantity to store in her room.
She wouldn’t normally store such trivial items in her room, but for these meat floss cakes, she was willing to make space.
Lin Nuo looked over, meat floss cakes, huh? He had just finished them. And why had this woman brought them over?
Qin Shi Li unceremoniously sat next to Lin Nuo, staring intently at him.
“Aren’t you going to eat?”
Qin Shi Li pushed the cakes closer to Lin Nuo.
“I’m busy.”
Lin Nuo was busy turning the skewers, his focus entirely on the doves on the rack. The meat floss cakes could wait; if the doves got burnt, they’d be ruined.
“Is this tasty?”
Qin Shi Li pointed at the roasting dove.
“It’s alright.”
Lin Nuo didn’t look at her, continuing to concentrate on roasting the dove. The dove was plump, and if roasted well, would be delicious.
Qin Shi Li’s gaze swept over to Mu Yiting. She hadn’t expected Lin Nuo to be with her.
Someone like him shouldn’t stoop to barbecuing with Mu Yiting, right? Her intuition about people couldn’t be wrong.
And now, he wasn’t eating the meat floss cakes, focusing instead on the dove. It was unexpected.
“Are you being fickle?”
“What do you mean?”
“These cakes and this dove.”
“Sorry, I want them all. But the dove comes first, I’ll eat that first.”
Lin Nuo saw that the dove was almost done and turned to grab the pepper powder he brought.
Qin Shi Li sat next to him, leaning in close, and just as he turned his head, his lips accidentally brushed against Qin Shi Li’s.
In that instant, they kissed.
“Why are you so close?”
Lin Nuo instinctively shifted a little to the side. Qin Shili, always so cold and aloof, had suddenly moved closer, which was quite odd.
Qin Shili gently lifted her smooth, silvery-white hair, her expression still as cold as ice, and said flatly, “Did I disturb you?”
“No, but I just kissed you, so either way, I’m at a gain.”
“Is that so?”
Qin Shili touched her red lips with the tip of her finger, “I didn’t feel much. Is this also something you like?”
“My senior sister, haven’t you forgotten the past? I used to be so fond of you.”
“You’re insincere, just trying to strike at me,” Qin Shili said indifferently.
“I really can’t understand why you would be insincere to someone you’ve rejected. Is this a double blow?”
Lin Nuo shook his head, unable to comprehend this woman’s thinking. He reached for the pepper powder to sprinkle on the roasted pigeon. In the past, an accidental kiss on Qin Shili’s red lips would have excited him for days.
But now, it was just a touch of the lips, nothing to fuss over, not even as satisfying as eating a meat floss bun.
Lin Nuo, neither humble nor arrogant, continued to roast the plump pigeon as if nothing had happened, and Qin Shili watched him, equally nonchalant, as if the kiss had never occurred.
“Is this tasty?”
“I don’t know, your mouth isn’t on my body.”
“You just touched it, shouldn’t you know?”
“That’s some strange logic, try it yourself.”
Lin Nuo took down the skewer with the roasted pigeon and handed it to Qin Shili, “Here, take it yourself.”
“Okay.”
Qin Shili took a piece from the well-roasted pigeon and put it in her mouth, chewing and savoring it.
“Mmm, it’s quite delicious. Can I have more?”
“Take a leg and go eat it somewhere else.”
Lin Nuo deliberately tore off a leg from the roasted pigeon and handed it to Qin Shili.
Mu Yiting saw all this, the two of them looked just like an old married couple, kissing casually as if it was nothing, and passing food to each other as if it was the most natural thing in the world.
She found it strange, remembering how Lin Nuo used to pursue Qin Shili. It was well-known that he was ignored, a pure-hearted young man doggedly chasing after the cold and proud ice beauty, only to be disregarded time and again, mocked by those around him.
She had secretly laughed at him too, but on the surface, she would speak to him with feigned sincerity, offering encouraging words to maintain her good image, always thinking he lived like a clown.
But now, seeing Qin Shili casually kissing and sharing food with Lin Nuo, they really seemed like an old married couple. So, was all the previous indifference just an act to deceive everyone?
So, was I the clown all along?
