chapter 52
52. The Esteemed One
Stepping through a cabinet, descending the heavy staircase, Lino arrived at the basement, where countless boxes were stored.
After going down, Lino put on the ring and inadvertently revealed the emblem of the secret alliance.
“Where are the things I asked for?”
Lino deliberately held a thin sheet of paper with the hand wearing the ring, listing the items he wanted.
The black market dealer noticed the ring in his hand, a symbol of status within the secret alliance, as well as the emblem of the alliance and the passphrase used upon entry, none of which could be faked.
Having chatted with him briefly, the dealer felt this person had a deep understanding of both the black market and the current underground organizations.
Could this be the legendary Esteemed One?
Moreover, from his tone, he seemed to be a high-ranking member of the alliance. Usually, such esteemed individuals wouldn’t directly state their needs, leaving it to the sellers to understand.
That’s right, at this moment, it was time for the high-ranking members of the alliance to come.
“Just a moment.”
The dealer took the thin strip of paper but didn’t open it. Dealing with the Esteemed Ones of the alliance wasn’t about being told explicitly what to do; reading a list and delivering goods would be too crude and leave a bad impression.
He had deduced from the man’s behavior and speech that he was the Esteemed One, and directly brought out the box containing the princess.
This was professionalism, dealing with the Esteemed Ones of the alliance required it.
He had someone push a small box over and said:
“Esteemed One, everything is inside. Please, inspect it.”
Esteemed One?
Lino chuckled upon hearing this. Indeed, wearing the alliance’s ring changed how he was treated, now being addressed cheerfully as the Esteemed One.
Lino tapped the box with his fingertip and calmly said, “No need, I trust you.”
He understood the rules and principles. Although the black market was notoriously expensive, they valued trust, and it was rare for their goods to be counterfeit, especially when dealing with powerful underground organizations like the alliance. They couldn’t afford to be negligent, so their merchandise was unlikely to be fake or flawed.
Thus, he chose not to inspect the goods, trusting the seller and giving them face, as there would be plenty of opportunities for future dealings. It was important to maintain a good relationship first.
Lino: “I’ll pay you the remaining money.”
The black market dealer shook his head: “No need, we have a long future ahead. We can settle it all together later.”
The dealer thought the Esteemed One was just being polite. He definitely couldn’t take his money now; it was against the rules. At the very least, they had to wait until the job was done, and the money should be collected by the boss personally.
Lin Nuo was very satisfied with this transaction; it seemed the trader was on the right track, good at business, and a member of the Dark Alliance. They spoke of long-term cooperation, settling accounts later, establishing a good seller’s image.
“Alright, long-term cooperation it is, we’ll settle accounts later.”
Lin Nuo left with the box in his car. His clothes and car were very ordinary, and so was the box. He looked like an average citizen, pulling away a batch of daily goods like soy sauce, rice, and salt from a department store.
With the box taken away, the trader finally breathed a sigh of relief. After all, the princess was stored here, and they were on tenterhooks every day, worried that one day the lord of Youcheng wouldn’t protect them, and the royal army would come with a group of people to raid their nest, causing a direct collapse of their business chain. They would also lose the opportunity for future cooperation with the Dark Alliance.
Now that the person was taken away, the responsibility fell to the Dark Alliance. They didn’t have to worry anymore, just wait to get paid.
Mission accomplished, it was time to celebrate properly.
Not long after, the black market trader’s boss came down to the basement with a man.
The boss glanced around for a week, noticing that the box containing the princess was gone.
“Has the box been taken away?”
“Yes, it’s been taken away, just now. We’ve confirmed it. He had the Dark Alliance’s badge and identity ring, and he’s quite familiar with our black market circulation and the underground organization’s affairs.”
“Good.”
The boss nodded in satisfaction and turned to the man beside him, “Lord Yang, Mr. Guangda has just taken the princess away. Thank you for coming over specially. You can go and meet up with him now.”
“Just taken away? But we didn’t see Brother Guangda when we came over.”
The man found it hard to believe. His own mission was progressing smoothly, so he came to support Mr. Guang. Unexpectedly, she had been taken away. If she had just been taken away, they should have met.
“We just saw a dark-faced man with a scar carrying a box out, but we didn’t see Brother Guangda.”
“Right, that’s the one. He had the Dark Alliance’s badge and ring, wasn’t he the one who came to respond?”
“So, you gave the box to him?!”
“Yes…”
Hearing the man’s tone of surprise, the trader sensed something was wrong.
The man suddenly clenched his teeth: “This is bad, Brother Guangda might have encountered trouble. You guys, quickly gather people, come with me to chase that guy down, he’s not one of our Dark Alliance!”
“What?!”
Everyone on the scene was stunned.
