Chapter 80: Recuperation
It had been about a week since the entire battle happened.
I had immediately brought Stussy to back to the ship, I tried getting the ship's doctor to help, but the doctor said that she had been healing the entire time we had been talking and that there was no need for him to do anything.
That was a huge relief for me, I almost thought that I would have to get to Vegapunk so that he could help. I picked her up and took her to our cabin that we had been sharing, she moved from her cabin a while back because she wanted to cuddle more. Covering her with a blanket, I left her to her peaceful sleep.
Getting back on the deck of the ship, I finally began to notice the extent of the damages that the ship had been put through during the war. The sails were patched, but they wouldn't hold for long; as for the mast, the crows nest was near non-existant, while the stem had multiple cracks along its length. Using Observation, I could tell that there were numerous other damages that the ship harboured.
I sighed tiredly before picking up a transponder snail. I had always said that I would be repaying Water 7 a visit. However, I really wanted to do that after I had visited the deeper parts of the New World. However, it would appear that my visit their would have to wait.
I called Whitebeard to inform him of what had happened. Whitebeard only let out a hearty chuckle when I had finished my recount of what had happened.
"My ship has extensive damages, I won't be able to patroll affectively with them. So I'll be going to Water 7 to get a new ship."
"Gurarararara!!! That's fine, I'll send Marco to substitute you while you're off to Water 7. However, meet me after you come back. Oden has a new kid, I want to celebrate!" Whitebeard replied jovially.
It had been quite a while since I had met Whitebeard, and time seemed to be passing by quickly as I continued my journey. I had noted that their second kid was on the way, but I didn't know that the kid would arrive so quickly. However, I'd figure that out later when I met up with them.
I ordered the ship to turn around and head toward Fishman Island. I heard news of a nearby island being able to offer resin coating for people attempting to leave the New World. We'd probably use their services when we get there. The ship promptly turned around and made its way to the Grand Line.
I was lounging on my couch and smoking when Ken approached me. After a brief greeting he reported that we were currently running out of supplies, and that the ship wright needed time to fix up some damages that were currently hindering the ship's progress. A stop was most definitely required, the question was however, where?
I quickly called for the navigator and the ship wright of the ship. They quickly assembled along with Ken as we all thought about ideal islands where we could dock and meet the ship's requirements. The other crew mates quickly brought out a table so that we could lay a map out. The navigator wasn't an expert on the New World, but he was a proffesional none the less.
At the moment, the debate lay between two islands that were similarly close to our current location. One was protected by the Big Mom pirates, while the other was a kingdom allied with the World Government. My presence there would be bringing a huge effect throughout either island. It was soley upto me to decide where we would be docking.
Sighing, I closed my eyes and picked the island affiliated to the World Government. I didn't trust Charolette as far as I could have thrown her, me being on her island would bring some troubling implecations compared to the Marines. The most the World Government would do was try and catch me, Linlin would be doing way much more.
Ken and the rest of the people within the meeting nodded nervously before setting course towards the kingdom. I decided that I would be remaining in the ship during the duration of the entire stay there. The island was about a day and a half away from where we were.
Moreover, Stussy was still sleeping in our cabin, I knew that the doctor said that she was healing. However, I couldn't help but worry a bit as I saw her throat. Shiki had an iron grip on her throat while we had been fighting. Her trachea was apparently shut as a result of it, I don't know how she was still breathing, but she still had some faint breaths as time kept up. The doctor had narrated that she would have to slowly open the trachea. Then slowly heal her brain, which had been deprived of oxygen for quite some time, it was a process that would take a few days or even weeks to do.
Thinking about it, I decided that soon I would be getting her a devil fruit. I'd even go as far and get Ken one as well. The rumble-rumble fruit was on my mind as I kept looking at Ken. As for Stussy...I'd figure it out soon enough.
A day passed, and we had finally landed on the shores of the Kingdom. Naturally, the marine base was already informed of the Whitebeard Pirates visitation. I could already sense a Vice-Admiral standing on the shores of the island as we were approaching. I didn't really mind it, it was a reasonable reaction coming from them. I usually just destroyed the pirate ships that dared to approach, these guys were way more welcoming than I was.
When we anchored and made our way to the beach, the Marines quickly raised their arms and aimed it at us. More specifically, their aim was solely pointed towards me as I landed on the beach. I had been fixing my sea of conciousness while we were sailing. Ghidorah was still awake and thrashing about, but with a little bit of will power, I managed to make him simmer down. The Marines picking a fight with me would not be helping me heal my conciousness.
"Boris! State your business, why are you on an island affiliated with the World Government?!" The Vice-Admiral yelled.
I stared at the Vice-Admiral a bit before responding, he was an older man with double jointed man with a scar on top of his left eye. He wore the traditional marine clothing and covered his mouth with a cover of some sorts.
"Just gonna stop by and recuperate for a bit...you wouldn't mind that, would you?" I replied, drawing a puff from my already lit cigar. From the looks of it, a battle was going to be happening shortly.
