The Tycoon Inheritance

Chapter 96: 95.

In the expansive office suite, Chen Kai lazily read through a few documents that needed to be dealt with. There was no deadline to it but he was bored.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

Tapping his fingers against the glass top of his desk, he finally gave up on reading and threw the file on top of the others.

The livestream news on the wall monitors and the muted music video in the side-by-side frame were all background noise.

Putting aside the documents, he sighed, thinking of what to do next. His eye caught a clip of his company's logo on the news reel. He turned to see what they were reporting on.

"Oh." He raised his eyebrows in mild surprise as the news brief was on the latest tech products his lab offered to the public. Compared to their competitors, the home and work gadgets he designed were 5 – 10 years ahead of the present things on the market, and that's domestically. In the international market, they had a slight upper hand, giving them at least 5 years before one of those companies replicates their products.

All of the above deductions Chen Kai made were based on his past life in which he unknowingly did.

He has yet to understand the impact he had on this world's technological uprising. His seemingly 'basic' products drastically changed the market.

Chen Kai, unbothered by the rise in his stocks and the numerous praises, turned to look out the window. Propping his feet on the desk, he shifted to his favorite salted fish position and took in the sights.

A concrete jungle. Though the various buildings had different architectural designs, the landscape of these modern structures were oddly beautiful.

"So bored." He muttered over a yawn.

The words came out unexpectedly, but he didn't find them unreasonable.

"I wonder if other transmigrators get bored after a while. It hasn't been a year yet, and I got everything that I should get as a Son of Destiny. Wealth. Fame. Power. What else is there?"

[The host has unfinished goals. It's currently at 59% of completion.]

"…" He didn't expect the system to answer his non-sensical query.

"59%. That's cool. I guess being placed in both families' ancestral book and getting married are all that's left, right?"

[You are partially correct. Your definition of family includes Chen Yan. Has the host forgotten the little one's background?]

"…. Hmmm. What I want to do will cause another round of chaos. …… I will only do it with permission," Chen Kai said with conviction. A brilliant idea popped up. A crude yet brilliant idea.

According to his thoughts.

System: ….. [According to the numerous calculations, there are more than 15 ways to introduce Chen Yan to the Chen family – calmly. Do you wish to see them, host?]

"Ah… no thanks. The old man needs some excitement in his life." Eager to see more drama, he sent out a flurry of messages to different people.

[….] The host is really bored.

In Shanghai….

Under the dark sky and covered by dull street lights, a slender figure ran along the shadows with his head lowered, clutching a small bundle to his chest, shielding it from the light rain that came down unexpectedly. The young man's breathing became labored the faster he ran. He can hear the incoming footsteps; his mind was swirling with questions but he knew he couldn't stop to sort things out.

Those people had bad intentions.

Raising his head, he tried to make sense of the street signs but they were in a language he couldn't understand. Where was he? Why were those people after him?

No time.

No time to think about that. He had to hide.

The small bundle covered in a thin blanket wriggled uncomfortably. "Sheyron, be good. We have to find somewhere safe from those people." A small yelp came from the blanket when the young man spoke.

Giving his companion a reassuring squeeze, he ran until he saw a wide alley, maybe its instinct or a calling he know he should go to that alley. He ran faster and turned swiftly, falling to his knees due to unexpected speed.

Bracing himself with one hand, he quickly got back to his feet and ran into the dark alley. There was hardly any light, no sound of any life only the echoing of his running steps.

How long is this alley?

He turned to look over his shoulder.

The street is gone.

The young man stopped. A confused frown took hold of his eyebrows. "This… "

The small bundle moved this time, peeking out of the blanket. Its white fur was messed up, and it bright yellow eyes were fixed on its young master. It yelped softly, its little bark was laced with worry.

"Sorry, Sheyron. This…" The young man didn't know what to say. His legs ached, and his chest burned from the frantic running. He couldn't voice his concerns because the past three hours were confusing.

Turning back to his instinctual direction, he walked further in, this time more cautiously. The further he walked in, the lighter the area became, he could hear loud chatter of people and calls of animals.

Closer he got until he saw the darkness split apart in rolling pieces, he swore he heard the chafing of stone against each other but that's not what stumped him.

Why is there a whole marketplace in an alley? What kind of animal are those? Is this back in medieval times?

"This is some bullshit!"

"..And CUT! Marvelous XiaoYan. Only the second take, and as perfect as the first."

The young man removed the hood from his head and looked at the director who was blowing rainbow farts. He chuckled at the old man's enthusiasm and allowed himself to be led away by the scene supervisor and make up artist. His sultry brown eyes held a hint of excitement, opposite to his daily indifferent expression. This was a bit of proof of his enjoyment of his new career.

The surrounding crew showed their appreciation for his smooth work with sincere praise and jovial smiles.

He was the youngest actor they worked with and was expecting long hours and immature acting but Chen Yan proved them wrong.

"Thank you," he murmured to the make up artist who was touching up his 'dirty haggard' look then placed the unruly puppy on the ground.

The little mite began to bark at him, wagging its tail cheerfully as it 'spoke' to Chen Yan. "You did a great job to for your first scene. How about some meat?"

"Arf!" The pup answered sharply and settled down.

The crew was amazed by how obedient the mix wolf pup was to Chen Yan. Aren't puppies supposed to be chaotic?

Chen Yan walked to the director, who still gushing over the clip while his assistant stood patiently waiting for him to come out of his little happy place.

"Ah, XiaoYan, wonderful job. The rest of the day we will film the exploring scenes then you will get a day off. When you return will be full throttle," the assistant director relayed to him.

"Sounds good. Thank you, Brother Mu." Chen Yan gave him a genuine smile. He loved acting; being able to play so many characters was fun. He couldn't wait to tell his brother about this new acting job.

"XiaoYan I will call you in a few. I have to make sure the props for the next scenes are perfect," the director said giddily.

"Sure." He picked up the little wolf pup and made way to the parking lot.

"Sister Xia can you heat up Sheyron's meal," he called out when he entered the mini RV. The bodyguards who were mixed in with the crowd placed themselves around the area giving Chen Yan a peace of mind. His brother would flip if he send those guys away after that debacle three months ago.

The young ladies on this star are so…. Unhinged.

Sitting in the living area with Sheyron, he waited for his assistant; his manager went on an errand with a few cryptic words of 'next level'. Since signing him, his manager Lisa has placed all her attention on him. Whether its auditions, guest spots, his tutoring and welfare, she was on top of it. Assistant Xia was hired by Chen Kai to take some weight off his manager's shoulders and to take care of his daily needs.

"Second Young Master, your phone." Asst. Xia handed him his phone and placed Sheyron's bowl in its designated spot.

"Thanks. Keep an ear out for the director's call."

"Yes, young master." She took it upon herself to leave the RV and waited outside.

With no one around, his alert posture relaxed considerably before he unlocked his phone. Even though Chen Kai told him that this life is safe compared to their past royal lives, he's still on guard against enemies.

Chen Yan read the text from his brother without much interest then paused.

He read it over again, this time word by word.

His calm expression gradually became distorted.

"He's bored."

Chen Yan read it again and found the hidden meaning. My word!

(Prince! Second Prince! Regent Prince! I'm back! I'll be in Shanghai in three days, how about you tag along with me to visit my old man?)

"He's bored and up to no good," Chen Yan sneered. His cheek twitched habitually after reading that title, Regent Prince – a position his dear brother forced upon him when he was caught on one of his nighttime tours.

"I wonder how uncle would react….. on second thought, I think uncle would help him carry out whatever crazy scenario he thought up."

He looked at his small hands and chuckled. He turned thirteen a month ago. In his last life at thirteen, he was fighting off assassins who came after him. In this life, he took his first overseas flight and spent it in Italy with Chen Kai.

A big difference.

The kid gave him a new life, a safe and enjoyable one. It would be bad of him if he didn't get some justice for 'his mother'.

Plus, it would be fun.

He typed one sentence and sent it to Chen Kai.

"Hmmm, three days? Let's see how much could be done. I have to be in good spirits for whatever Brother Emperor has planned."

Picking up the pup who was asleep next to him, he rushed back to the set.

On the other side of Shanghai, in the middle of the bustling metropolis, Chen Huai was currently in the middle of a collaborative meeting with three other companies. They were in the middle of planning and distribution when a call came in on his phone.

Maybe he was too focused on the meeting that he answered the call and placed it on speaker.

"Yes."

"I'm hurt, dear father. Is this how you greet your son who just returned?" The distinct voice of his son covered the ongoing conversations in the meeting room.

Chen Huai realized his mistake and quickly switched the talk modes. "You brat! Its been a day or two since you returned, and only now you decided to call me." He may sound like he was angry with Chen Kai but all those present can see the happiness glowing from the man.

Gone was the decisive, cutthroat CEO and replacing that persona was an amiable doting father figure.

"Bah! Old Man you know I have to settle things over here. Those below have begun to act."

Chen Huai's whole demeanor became chilly. "Do they think they have survived long enough in their gilded manors? Attacking the hand that feeds them. Shameless bastards."

The people in the room can only hear Chen Huai's side and from his words and expression, it seems like something happened to his son.

Isn't his son, Chen Boyang known as a playboy? But that voice…. It was too mature to be the frivolous son the social circle knows.

The fire of gossip flared in their eyes; they slowed down their actions and listened intently. Does Chen Huai really has an illegimate child? There were a few murmurs but they were silenced.

Everyone was looking at the family since his big move with the CEO inheritance thing.

"…. Xie Family? I heard they lost a few subsidiaries over here and two in Beijing."

"…. You took over the two? You already have an entertainment company, why would you need another?"

There was a pause as Chen Huai (and the others) listened carefully. Judging by the man's expressive eyes, the latter knew it was something profitable and will be big in the future. They must keep up the connections with the Chen family. This new son seems capable.

"Promising. After you released those products, your personal companies earned some influence, be sure to make this new venture standout. So what made you call now?"

Another pause.

One minute. Three minutes.

Chen Huai broke character. His laugh was so loud and carefree that it changed the man's entire image. Isn't this the look of a man who indulges his child in their antics.

Another spoiled rich kid?

"I didn't expect him to be with you. Alright I will set up everything for you. The old man has no choice these days. Call me when you land."

"…. Xiao Yang hasn't reached out? Well, you can remind him of your visit. He's probably still processing everything. ….. Alright, I'll leave it up to you. Give my best to your uncle."

After he ended the call, he sent out a few texts then resumed his meeting.

His calm demeanor returned. "Thank you for allowing me to take that call. We may continue."

"No worries, President Chen, most of us here are parents. How can we ignore calls from our children?" One spoke up but he was clearly phishing.

How can Chen Huai not notice this? He wasn't bothered. He already planned to introduce Chen Kai as his first son. There will be the typical scandal of his 'birth' which is to expected and they were ready for it; so speaking about his sons came naturally.

"That is true. I just didn't expect the eldest to call during the meeting. Let's continue."

The eldest!

Their eyes lit up like bulbs. Two sons. He has two sons where did the eldest one appear from. Ah~ Director Chen has drama like these?

They want to eat melons but now its not the time. They wonder how long before it will all spill out.

Drama from rich people is always better.
