As the age-old stories go where the man falls into the clutches of responsibility. It always go accordingly.

A handsome man's ego inflates to capture the beauty's attention.

Man takes advantage of the drinking party.

Man and woman are drunk and high over sexual tension.

A month later the woman finds the man.

Man reluctantly takes responsibility.

The Age old story.

Chi Rulan told the story of Shang Ming being sent to his workplace by her parents with great annoyance. He lost his job because of the scene they created in which he despised Shang Ming but didn't know it was due to negative work review.

His talk continued with the loss of his three-bedroom apartment when he couldn't pay his rent and there was no job to his liking.

When he spoke, his words were filtered by his parents. The more they listened, the more they felt that they failed in his upbringing. The overall judgment of this situation comes down to their child being an arrogant prick.

1 – He didn't want to confirm nor take responsibility for Shang Ming.

2 – His work performance was probably unsatisfactory for management to take advantage of the embarrassing moment he brought to their company.

3 – His overindulgence. He was a single man in the city working for an income nearing 30, 000 Yuan a month yet he squanders most of it on a high-end apartment. He preferred to live above his means for prestige.

The couple's faces took on ugly expressions the more they listened to their son's ranting. Not once did he mention how he would move on to job hunting or plans for his new role in life as a father.

Was this the son they raised? Their household is considered middle class and their income now comes from the shops they rent, even that money is average to pay the bills and insurance. If it wasn't for the allowance Chen Kai sends to be comfortable, they would have been living hand-to-mouth.

Though the funds were tight, their son grew up in a stable home, no setbacks, yet this over-indulgent arrogant attitude was not learned from them.

Lan Yueran had enough. Eyes shaking with anger, she felt ashamed by listening to his complaint about others but not looking at himself. Words may do nothing to this mentality he adopted but other things would.

Her abrupt actions were fast. Chi Rulan didn't have time to judge what was going on, he only felt the side of his face become hot and stinging. He held his cheek in shock and called out to his mother. The visual he got was of a woman trying her best not to say all the curse words she knew and created.

"YOU'RE A DISGRACE!"

"Mom!" He looked at his father who had a stern look on his face. He knew by this expression that the old man agreed to his mother striking him.

Chi Xuan got to his feet and gathered his wife in his arms. The woman was strung tightly and her emotions being wild would push her into beating this child to death to offer him up for rebirth. Looking down at his only son, he can't help but feel disappointed.

He was a man who grew up on the principles of being honest and hardworking, never envying the possessions of others, and being content with things that one earned. By the looks of things, this generational innate comprehension of these lessons is probably stalled in his son's generation.

"You have three months to look for a new job. After the child is born and passes the three-month mark, you would move into your own home. My words should have a clear meaning. As for the relationship between you and that poor girl, let it be decided between yourselves." Chi Xuan's words were stern and had no room for rebuttal but his dear son didn't understand this.

"Where in this broken town will I find a job over 30,000 Yuan? Are you pushing me into the poor house?"

Lan Yueran: ….

Chi Xuan: ….

Both: 'Did we waste our money on college tuition?'

An hour has passed since the Chi Rulan's situation was revealed. Su Lian was currently by Chen Kai's side with mild worry on her face. It has been a long time since he fell asleep and it didn't look like peaceful dreams.

In the span of that hour, she called out to him many times when she heard painful cries from him and saw those contorted expressions on his face. She became worried when he didn't answer or come out of his sleep. His body was weirdly heavier than expected; she was unable to hold him carefully as her arms began to ache.

She waited for another ten minutes for him to wake but he didn't. Thinking that he was greatly tired, she left him be.

Leaving the room, she met up with Lan Yueran who had a fierce expression on her face. When the latter saw Su Lian, her irritation eased gradually upon seeing the likable wife of her adoptive son.

"Is everything okay? Where's Little Kai?"

"He's taking a nap. Ummm... auntie. Do you have any scented candles? Calming incense?"

Su Lian's question confused her a bit but she still answered. "I should have incense. Why…" The question was left lingering.

"Kai took a nap but he's having a bad time right now. I try waking him up but he seems too tired to jump out of it. I want to help calm him down a bit." Su Lian was aware of how Chen Kai pushed his schedule this week to enjoy these two days. He deserves this rest.

"I'll bring it to you."

Returning to the room, Su Lian arrived in time to see a lonely tear rolling down his face. The signs of pain were no longer there but of grief, pure sadness. "What are you dreaming of? You're making me worry." She pressed the space between his brows and gently massaged it.

".. Mom."

The sorrowful call scratched her heart. She sighed. She was helpless, she didn't know what to do.

A knock sounded on the door and Su Lian invited Lan Yueran in. The older woman's eyes fell on Chen Kai's forlorn look, her heart pained for the child.

"Maybe he's having a bad time since he returned here. It wasn't the best part of growing up." Lan Yueran spoke softly and lit the calming incense before handing the burner in the corner.

When the light-fragrant smoke circulated, the effect was visible on Chen Kai. His tense body relaxed and his sleep became easier.

"This poor child."

The system meticulously reported the changes to Chen Kai's state as each memory played like a dream.

He, himself, was unable to hear the system. In his consciousness he was standing behind a replica of himself who was slender in size; in front of both of them was an adorable boy of four years with fair skin and inky black hair. The child held a stuffed animal in his pudgy hands with his focus ahead of him. Both adults leaned their heads slightly to the right in unison and gazed at the toy.

The white tiger's eyes were blue and black with the black being bigger and was originally a replacement. Around the tiger's neck was a knotted embroidered scarf with the name 'Kai' on it.

That was theirs.

The real version was sealed away in a box at the villa.

This child was them.

The two adults walked in tandem to get a look at the child. Yes. This is them. The child's eyes were thought-provoking. His temperament was too serious for a child, he held a clever look on his face.

The two felt a bit of pride that they were still the same as they were young.

"Mommy." The milky voice stopped their boastful nature.

The blurred surroundings became sharper. They were in a park, families having picnics, kids playing together but little Chen Kai was focused on the woman before him. A delicate beauty with the same inky black hair and fair skin held the child's chubby face in her hands. Her sharp nose and slender lips were two additional features Chen Kai inherited from her.

"My sweet baby, Kai. Are you happy today?" Her voice was soft and refreshing like a calming breeze in spring.

"Uh-huh. Very happy." The child giggled and threw himself on his mother and burrowed deeper in her arms.

"Oh, look at this baby. My sweet little Kai."

The two adults close by heard the sadness under her words. In their ears, it sounded like a regretful kind of sadness.

"My Kai will be steady as a mountain and calm as the sea. He will be kind as his heart is made of gold but fierce as his tiger. What else?" Her soft words were like a mantra in their ears, both big and small.

"Kai would live well for Mom." Three voices uttered the last sentence. The young Kai was taught to memorize all three lines while the adults spoke in remembrance.

Looking at the woman holding their younger self, they realized that she was preparing them to be alone. Something was going to happen to her.

"Was she sick? Why didn't I know? " The two adults spoke in unison as they watched their mother cuddle the 4-year-old Kai. It seems like they should really look into their mother's past.
