The Tycoon Inheritance

A familiar face exited the common work commute in the Zhejiang Province and entered the seemingly plain office building to start his first day of work. Returning home and acquiring this entry-level position in a prosperous city was a good fortune for Zhu Dong.

He depended on the graduation certificate to find a good job that can give him much benefits and prestige. Entering XXX University on base line college entrance marks was a simple sprinkling of luck. His grades have been teetering between average and moderately good. It steadied itself to average when he entered university.

Accepting this job was a no brainer; entering the reception area Zhu Dong held his head high to show his confidence and reported to the receptionist as mentioned in the email.

It turns out that a one week orientation will be carried out to train them with the basics to begin in their respective departments. His major was Finance, he focused on the field he can handle and excelled in it. Thinking about the department he may work in, Zhu Dong was excited to start his first job.

He retrieved the security pass from the young lady and listened to her directions. While he was speaking, a few other interns arrived. Fresh faced college graduates in their new work attire approached the desk cheerfully.

After meeting similar people to them they all set off to find the specific conference room on the ground floor, Zhu Dong was able to hit it off with two guys who also studied in Nanjing. The group of interns chattered loudly until they reached the conference room.

It was still early and the room was half filled. Eyes landed on the conservatively dressed ladies and fellow male competitors, the scene of scrutinizing the newcomers was silent but they were cordially welcomed. Zhu Dong sat at the middle and kept up talk with these new buddies.

His phone rang with a few notification sounds, distracting him from his conversation.

Unlocking the phone and navigating to the WeChat group. Wanting to have a good rest for the day, he didn't indulge much in the high school chat group. His presence was a bit transparent. His name was only popular when they wanted more in-depth details on Chen Kai.

Zhu Dong frowned. What more do they want?

Opening the chat log, he followed the flow of conversation and found a few screenshots. The conversation was around its contents. Two figures were in the photo screenshotted from someone's profile display. These two people were recognizable at a glance.

Zhu Dong was familiar with both. He read the private message that was below the chat group.

Tang Yue: >Image< Is the beauty in the photo really that dog's girlfriend?

Rolling his eyes, he answered: Maybe. The girl have been his friend and crazy over him since Freshman years.

Tang Yue: She looks like one of those rich kids. Do you know her background?

Zhu Dong sighed when he saw this reply. Its a known fact that Tang Yue had the most anger and jealousy against Chen Kai and will always drag him down. Even he had a bit of jealousy against him but not to the extent to plotting against him. Tang Yue along with a few of his buddies hates Chen Kai to the core.

The guy's question about Su Lian surely means he wish to cause a bit drama in the perfect guy's world.

Zhu Dong: Not really. There was a bit of news that she was from a high born family in Hangzhou but she didn't have that proud rich girl image.

Tang Yue: So its a true possibility that he's eating soft rice. Heh~ This guy. Always so lucky.

He didn't reply and the other party didn't continue the short chat. He closed the app and return to his new companions. "Sorry about that."

"No big. Hey, are you going back for your graduation ceremony? Next Friday is mine," one asked with the excitement of seeing his classmates once again.

"I bowed out and received my certificate early. Staying in a hotel until the ceremony would of hurt my pockets," Zhu Dong commented.

The two chuckled at the realism of his words. "My folks dragged me back after my finals to start the job hunting event. After seven applications at other companies, this one called," another one said quipped.

The three bonded over the experience of job hunting with Zhu Dong unknowingly igniting another hateful spark in Tang Yue's heart.

Handsome. Smart. Kind. The perfect guy. Most likely to succeed. An ace in everything.

Will be the most perfect husband.

All of these comments rattled in Tang Yue's memory as he watched the copied photo of Chen Kai and his supposedly girlfriend. The image is of the two at a semi-formal event, both were dressed immaculately in neutral colors and posed in arrogant actions. It was clear that the two were harmonious with each other and was playing for the camera.

The simple hand on the woman's waist was a clear sign of the man's possessiveness. The woman wasn't shy in leaning against the man's body but her slender hand tightly held the man's other hand.

Tang Yue gritted his teeth in anger, the contempt for the man was strong in his eyes. He still couldn't accept the fact that a poor, unwanted bastard like Chen Kai was better than him in so much things. He who had actual parents and money to buy whatever he wants and access to better resources is considered a second best amongst his peers.

The only satisfaction he got is the like minded friends he got by his side.

"Fucking bastard wants to reach the sky," Tang Yue cursed under his breath. His fingers flew across the screen as he gave his input in the group chat. The ones leading the yin-yang conversation didn't care that the subject they were speaking of was in the group.

Out of sight. Out of mind.

Its possible that it was his upbring or his formed mentality allowed him to have such a superiority complex. People from the lower class like Chen Kai with the negative background should live within their means. That's the place they were born into, its best to stay there.

Realizing how their positions has changed in such little time, Tang Yue opened a new chat box and messaged a contact named Investor H. The replies were quick and concise. The other party had two images and the most glamorous one was known by the public. Tang Yue was familiar with the person's both images due to his hierarchy in high society. The reason for their point of contact was - Chen Kai.

This also annoyed Tang Yue.

Finalizing their conversation, the phone was placed back into pocket and he left his corner office. As the second son of the Tang Family, he has two options - slack off or join the family business. He joined the staff of one of his family's middle class business to gain a bit of reputation. Putting on his practiced smile, he made his way to the the car showroom of Tang Xing Dealership.

At the Haidan Group, it turns out that the Human Resource Manager was part of the group who staged the walkout.

It didn't matter to Chen Kai and his team but the entire scene of the abrupt resignation of the veterans in the company shook the employees. They were sent back to their offices and cubicles in unease, not knowing how their day will end.

Chen Kai didn't comfort them or placate the remaining executive, he held a meeting with hose who wish to stay and executed the first phase of his plan. The team he brought smoothly integrated into the company and began their assigned duties.

Doing a vigorous cleaning and make over of the company was imperative in boosting the energy of the employees. Working in an environment that's oppressive is bad for creativity and comfort. Work is a second home for adults. Chen Kai understands this. His title of 'relatable business tycoon' will be a farce if he doesn't put his touch on his present companies.

"A month will be given to complete everything. The loose employees will be sent home to work and their bosses will temporarily move to Shenghuo. Have the IT team send out the specific emails along with Finance and HR after confirmation of renovation project workers.

There should be at least two persons from the construction company to be a supervisor to ensure they are using the right materials and that they're on schedule. Tomorrow I will visit Donghua to finalize the take over."

Xiao Wei listened to the instructions and efficiently noted them all. Both boss and assistant have been tackling paperwork and calling outside companies to get things moving. On the small meeting table in the president's office, different colored folders and laptops filled the surface. It has been hours they've been at it.

If it wasn't for a personal call Chen Kai received they would of forgotten about lunch. Thankfully, Chef Mu was insightful and sent lunch to his boss and the team. He even packaged the extra mini-cakes he baked after making a requested cake for the wife of the young master.

"This should be enough to keep everyone busy. You have the job of selecting the perfect assistant for each company. They will be your eyes and ears, I know you won't stay at one office."

Xiao Wei nodded his head in agreement as he sorted out the new contacts he made. "Its fun to search for gems in this fast moving industry. After Donghua Construction is settled, why don't we start that house flipping project? It will give Shenghuo a good boost after completion."

"Sure. We can start in districts that have no possibility of land development from the big guys. Acquiring houses or apartments that's affordable is anyone's goals. With colleges spitting out new adults every year, these things are limited. Our house flipping in Nanjing will cater to that. Did you check if there are similar projects in the area?"

"Not large scale like our plan. Most of them buys old apartment buildings, slap on some paint and raise the rent. Its a roof over their heads, most people only have that thought in mind," Xiao Wei answered.

"True. Next month we can start. I will have Argon investigate the companies you found and select the right ones to collaborate with."

Knowing about the Villa's house AI that doubles as a technical assistant, Xiao Wei had no qualms on that investigation. It save him a lot of time and headache.

A bodyguard entered the office with their heated lunches and disappeared after setting it up at the dining table on the other side of the office.

Their idle chatter didn't contain work but of recent news and entertainment they saw either online or word of mouth. Chen Kai carelessly told him about his graduation ceremony and was scolded for not informing them sooner.

"What's the fuss? Its a simple ceremony. I have six reserved seats, three are taken. Do you want the remaining three?"

"This is the young master's entry to adulthood. Your first step to your first..." Xiao Wei stopped his passionate speech and pursed his lips. The mocking look on his friend's face spoke volumes.

He coughed and turned the subject.

What first step?

This walking contradiction ran and sat at the top position of CEO before he collected that certificate.

"Alright. Go. Decide who gets the last two seats. The invites should be at the house by five. I have to deliver two personally." Chen Kai's last words were covered with a hint of affection.

Xiao Wei waited for him to move out of his small moment of vulnerability to speak. " I'll make a sweep of the departments then do a check of the nearby stores under Haidan. The driver will return after his afternoon break. Do you require anything else?" He was back to being a capable assistant. His professionalism was impeccable.

"Leave notice with the secretary outside."

Nodding his head in acknowledgement, Xiao Wei packed up the things he will need and left the office.

"Why is she so silly?" Even though the words were usually meant for mockery was said, coming from Chen Kai it was full of doting and pure affection.

After his lunch, he gave himself a break and brushed Weibo. The people on the follow list were from the original soul which included Su Lian and the girls. When Chen Kai took over, he followed big Vs he found interesting and mainstream news channels from different circles. Su Lian was under his important reminders.

The photos she posted were of the cake Chef Mu baked for her, a selfie of her silly smile and the cake after being cut.

Clicking the comment icon, he left a simple and teasing message.

In a stately office of a newly known CEO, a young man in a languid state was smiling goofily at his phone as his fingers flew across the screen. The image of fearsome President was no where to be seen. Chen Kai spent the next ten minutes chatting with Su Lian privately before doing a check in on XiaoYan.

Everything was good. He can put his attention on the existing projects and plans that were discarded by the now retired employees. He couldn't believe a company taking in fresh blood every third quarter has no fresh ideas for the food industry. The biggest consumers are the younger generation.

Grabbing a quick meal at a convenience store whether its on your way to work or school is like a mandatory thing. Pulling in street vendors who wants a new customer base can be done in the large supermarkets. Partnering with local restaurants are another way, even the homemakers who do their own preserves are good targets.

None of that were in the approved projects.

They were all rejected by the older heads.

The excuse - Lack of potential. Too much cost to set up. Destroying the image of Haidan.

"Are these people really veterans in the business? And who the heck is in charge of Advertising?"

Looking at the bland posters and forgettable TV commercial on the laptop, he couldn't help the curses coming out of his mouth. Advertising and Marketing are on two different spectrum, no sense of compatibility when they are simply under one brand name..

How is this possible?

He was about to check the Research & Development angle when his office door was rudely opened.

A clear frown of annoyance was on his face when he raised his head to see who was so brave to barge in uninvited. There was a young lady standing in the doorway with her hand on the door knob, posing in a seductive manner. The warm light of the hallway gave her an alluring silhouette, matching the front visual of her proportional body.

She didn't say a word. She held a smile on her red full lips and coquettishly leaned her head to the left allowing her long black hair to fall like flowing water. Her outfit was on the borderline of 'too sexy for work' but held a hint of professionalism. She was a beauty in her own right but that didn't do anything to Chen Kai.

The unamused and unaffected look in his dark eyes was clear to the woman but she wasn't deterred. She closed the door gently and sashayed her way into the office.

The thought in his mind came out unexpectedly. "Who the fuck are you?"
