Chapter 43: 43.
"Are you sure about this?"
"Yo, this will change everything. You have to be confident with your decision."
"Are you doing this with the right mentality? This isn't an off-the-bat thing right?"
Three steadfast friends voiced their questions in a chorus. Their companion still had a soft smile on her face as she looked at the pamphlet for the nth time. Before she answered, a notification popped up on her phone.
The three saw the sender and patiently waited for her to return to their conversation.
"I thought about it before and now it's confirmed. Don't worry. Isn't this part of what we talked about?"
Their companion's words stifled their doubts, along with a confident smile on her face. If she's okay with it, who are they to stop her?
"Fine."
"If you say so."
"Let's get the last-minute things before we head over."
The beauty group of four left the cozy cafe and returned to their morning shopping.
~~~~~~~~
'Oh! I haven't signed in!'
They were close to the venue, and Xiao Wei was briefing him with real-time updates on recent events, that pertained to his recent entry into the business world when he realized this.
'System, sign in!'
[Congratulations host on obtaining full ownership of Donghua Construction Company and 80% shares of the Haidan Group.]
He silently groaned at the 80%.
Isn't that adding more work to his life?
There's a 100% chance that there will be a couple of older heads who will be stubborn and internal strife at these two companies.
Where can he enjoy his retirement as a salted fish? Bah!
After a few seconds of whining, he opened the details dialog box of the two companies he now owns.
Donghua Construction Company is self-explanatory. The acquisition of this company closed the gap in one of the plans he wished to execute. Venturing into real estate is risky and full of bloodthirsty competitors. Any piece of land or building can be a good investment or a hidden gem.
Nanjing is always evolving. The old is always replaced by the new and Chen Kai wants to take advantage of that.
Haidan Group is another great addition. It's in the food business. They started with a chain of grocery stores in the province, then welcomed their success in the food catering industry. One restaurant entered and five more were added. Specialty snacks and food were introduced then seasonings - all were placed on the shelves of their grocery and a few outside of Jiangsu.
A great addition to his private circle.
"Remember when I told you that I have a few acquisitions that are still on the fence."
Xiao Wei hummed in acknowledgment and continued to look at the documents in his hand then passed it to Chen Kai when he was through.
"I have a good feeling about two today."
He finally raised his head and looked at his boss. The confident smile reminded him of a man who knew the ways of the world.
Xiao Wei narrowed his eyes in suspicion.
"I'm good at these things. You wait on the calls," Chen Kai said proudly.
"Yes, Brother Kai," he replied with a chuckle.
Chen Kai leaned back heavily on the plush backrest and sighed. The quiet confines of the car were broken by the earworm song Chen Yan was playing but the comfort of the Mercedes-Maybach was still there.
"Remember what we talked about."
Xiao Wei recognized the serious tone in his voice and sat straighter. "Yes, but I didn't expect it so soon."
"I wanted to simmer awhile to see how deep Jiangsu is but things are moving faster than expected. Nanhe Emperor Mall inclusive of the newly publicized Nanhe Group, will be my public persona. The companies and my movements will be private. No photo biography, only my name and the company info. We'll be touching each industry, taking a sip of each to create our own bowl.
Things will get interesting along the way. You can start looking for a helper now."
"You're going onto the path of a sleeping dragon, huh?"
"Heh~ What's the point in constantly showing off, your flaws will be exposed."
"Well, seems like my headhunting results will be soon put to use," Xiao Wei quipped and moved to his phone.
Chen Kai grinned in reply and enjoyed the rest of the ride, listening to the song that seemed to be on repeat.
"I'm super shy ~ Super Shy~ Now wait a minute while I make you mine, make you mine ~ "
Linzhen Pavillion can be said to be a masterpiece with its traditional Chinese architecture and its pristine upkeep. The location is on the outskirts of the business district, sitting on a large expanse of untouched land. The red-tiled building stood majestically, welcoming its guests to enjoy its unique style within.
The auction host is said to have deep pockets to book the pavilion and invite the famous koi fish breeder from Japan. Invitations were sent out to people of adequate and high standing in the business and entertainment sector.
This gathering not only raises the host's prestige but allows for fostering relationships and gathering information on others.
There was a piece of news swimming around these people from the early hours. This news also caused a tremor in the real estate industry.
- A young investor injected billions into Nanhe which allowed them to fast forward a present project and go public as Nanhe Group.
Two points came out of that news for them that will be beneficial to their growth.
> The young investor who's carrying billions; > Nanhe Group's project
As it turns out, the auction host invited the chairman but the star of the rumor is coming as his representative. This young investor was appointed as Vice-President by the chairman and he also has a say in the development of Nanhe. This is someone you must form a relationship with.
Most of the guests had arrived and were either sharing backhanded news they heard or getting reacquainted with each other. The age group was a mixture of the young and the old. Most of the young were heirs to family businesses or young ones pushed into the sea for experience.
The unspoken reason was the age of the billion-dollar investor.
Wouldn't it be nice if their sons formed a relationship with the Vice President? What about their daughters; a good match, right?
In the pavilion, everyone had their groups and wandered around the East and West halls and the corridors. Low hums of conversation filled the air as they leisurely gazed at the different species of fish in the carefully placed aquariums in the halls.
Apart from showing their wealth by purchasing the most expensive fish, the boasting competition began. The boasting and smug words were hidden within polite talk. The most interesting is who was able to enter the auction.
The auction is considered a hierarchy show. The rare species were auctioned and that segment can show your true financial power.
A few businessmen were walking along the corridor moving to the next hall, talking leisurely as the morning sun blessed the earth. This East to West main corridor was open on both sides. It's also the main entrance from the courtyard. All the guests who are moving from left to right can see and greet the new arrivals at a glance.
At this time, three new arrivals stepped onto the wide stone path. Two young men and a preteen.
As they got closer, the young man who was in the lead cast a beautiful yet envious sight to the onlookers.
His height was above average which is now common amongst international models, broad shoulders well meant for tailored suits; long legs that added to his height and male beauty, and a slender waist that made ladies's imaginations go wild. His dark hair was swept back showing off his well-defined face and dark eyes. Sharp eyebrows and long lashes framed those starry eyes.
The man walked with the self-confidence one gains from training and worldly experience. He had a slight smirk of arrogance on his lips, looking at all who stopped to stare at him.
His companion was of the same physical bearing but a delicate look to his face paired with his shoulder-length hair showed their difference in male beauty.
A rogue and a fairy.
That's the description the ladies made of the two handsome men entering the pavilion.
Even though they were greatly eye-catching, the young boy also caught their attention.
He was adorable. He had the same measured and majestic walk as his older brothers and wore a mildly interested look. His style matched the main lead of the trio - black slim-fit pants, a black undershirt, and a modern tang suit jacket.
He wore red while the leader wore blue.
What caught their eye was the wild look he portrayed. Is that an earring?
Is that a braid in his hair?
The kid looked wild but it seemed to mesh with his little prince aura.
Who are these three?
"We greet the elders!" The chorused sound of male voices tickled the ear. The trio greeted the older guests politely when they reached the corridor and gave a small hello to the young people around.
Under the stunned gazes, they turned right and entered the hall.
"Who are they?"
"They don't look familiar to me."
"Do you know everyone in Jiangsu? He's probably visiting from the next city."
"I doubt it. To be invited here, you must have some weight behind you."
"Then someone from Shanghai? An important guest?"
" So many possibilities.
Questioning voices were heard, and one by one sent their assistants to procure the identity of the three or the 'leader'. From their temperament, manners, and quality of clothing, not to mention the million-dollar watches on their wrists, they aren't simply rich second-generation kids.
There's a possibility of being self-made first generation.
If they are, can anyone measure their business acumen and background?
~~~~~~~~~
"It's pretty dull here. It's tiring to talk about business and new policies. I don't get how my pops can do this constantly." A well-dressed youth tugged at his collar for the fourth time. His father sent him to accompany his good friend's daughter at this auction.
Supervision. That was his job until someone recognized his family name and began the battle of coercion.
"You can leave if you like. I have Shun'er with me."
The youth eyed the silent beauty next to his cousin. This woman was a guest from Shanghai, someone from a big family. As a courtesy of their dear Nanjing, he can't drop his duties. To be honest, he prefers to read a few books he downloaded before resuming his coding.
Accompanying little princesses wasn't an ideal day for him.
"I know you ladies can watch over yourself but this can go left if you're not careful. Even in this little event," he replied. He may be a slacker to most but he understands their circle. A waiter came by and offered Mimosas to the ladies but he detrred the man and asked for some chilled juice.
"We are not kids," Wei Rong protested.
Bai Shun didn't comment on this cousin's action but appreciated it. She understood his words but Wei Rong seemed to be still sheltered about these things. "The juice is better. You can appreciate the food more," Bai Shun commented.
Wei Rong stopped her antics and fell into a well-behaved young lady once again. Shang Ren noticed this and hid a smirk under the wine glass.
The three made idle talk and politely greeted two more friends who joined their little gathering. The topic after the greetings was - How to befriend the young tycoon!
Shang Ren adopted a dazed look; the other guy in the group suddenly found the fishes interesting and one by one the ladies shifted their attention to their phones.
Answer to the topic question - I have no idea.
This is the reason why they were at this auction. They were the middlemen for their folks. The reality of the second generation kids.
How can you please a tycoon? Anything they offer he can simply get it. Isn't it redundant to put a rich kid against a rich kid?
"How are we supposed to do this? Does anyone have a picture?" the guy asked, knocking back the last of his wine. He had a shopping date with ..... one of those girls today.
Their parents switched positions with them when they got a whiff of the news, not caring about information.
"The Nanhe Group website should be updated. There was a major upheaval done according to what I heard. The old guys mentioned that the big guy did a cleansing in his company. The new hires will be treated better. I'm sure our folks' next move if we fail here is to get us into Nanhe Group."
They all shuddered at the thought of going to work.
Working a 9 - 5 job was far from their perfect life. They love the freedom their parents gave them in exchange for finishing college-level education.
Free to travel.
Free to play.
Free to do whatever they want.
The talk moved from the Nanhe Group to an upcoming trip one of their friends planned. The guy who was previously looking at the fish saw a new guest approaching the aquariums near them.
The four large triangular-shaped aquariums held various exotic fishes with a minimum value of 10,000 each.
A few guests purchased one or two to give face to the auction host while others ignored these 'cheap ones'. The prestige holders are in the main hall.
This guest piqued his interest because of his age.
Why was there a middle schooler at this auction?
He watched on as the kid read the information card of each breed, eyed the swimming colors then chose what he liked. The kid chose five cards and began to fill in the information requested at the back of the cards.
Isn't this kid wary of his parents scolding him?
The young man moved from his friends and closer to the aquarium. When he got closer, he saw the exact breed the kid chose and the quantity
If calculated, the kid was going to spend over 100,000 yuan excluding the service fee of home delivery.
"Little ancestor, aren't you afraid of going over your allowance?"
Liu Chao can recall his monthly allowance when he was in middle school. 10,000 Yuan was the negotiated amount between him and his parents, and 5,000 was added according to his grades. Seeing this kid choose so much, his big brother instinct took over.
The kid looked up at the end of his query. Liu Chao was a bit startled by those sharp brown eyes and wild hair style. He took a step back subconsciously and lowered his head slightly. He didn't realize he did this but the kid did.
"Thanks for your concern, brother. To ease your mind, my allowance can cover these and others I want to purchase."
"Really? Your parents are pretty indulgent. I still have to ask my dad to buy certain things that are over my allowance." Liu Chao grumbled about the new generation inwardly.
The kid laughed at Liu Chao's disgruntled expression.
"I don't even know the limit. Big brother simply said to tell him if its not enough."
"Tch! Lucky brat." Liu Chao playfully sneered at the kid's words and his nonchalance. For a middle schooler he seems pretty mature. Liu Chao felt like he was talking to one of his friends.
"Who are you here with? Aren't you supposed to be in school?"
"I'm in the midst of a transfer. Brother and I just moved to Nanjing."
A waiter passed and offered a glass of juice with a small plate of snacks to the kid.
This puzzled Liu Chao. Does it have personal service here?
"Young master, the eldest sent these for you," the waiter said softly.
"Thank you." The kid tucked away the cards in his Tang Suit jacket and received the plate and glass of juice. The waiter left after a slight bow.
Who's 'the eldest'? A special guest?
"Welcome to Nanjing. Come with me. It'll be uncomfortable to eat while standing." Liu Chao led him back to his friends and rudely vacated Shang Ren from one side of the placed sofa. His friends were confused by his actions, even more so when he asked a kid to sit.
"Chao, is this your cousin or something? A little brother auntie and uncle have been hiding?" Shang Ren asked as he curiously eyed the kid.
This middle schooler ate without a care in the world. He boldly returned the stares of his older brothers and sisters and continued to eat.
"Don't talk nonsense. My mother rather be exiled than bringing in a third child for the family. He's a guest like us."
"Oh!~" When they heard this, they quickly assumed the kid's parents sent him out wth either an older brother or sister for some real world training. They've all been through that 'lesson'.
"What's your name?" Liu Chao asked after a moment of quiet understanding.
"Surname Chen. Yan is my given."
The group became alert.
Wasn't Nanhe Group's VP surnamed Chen? .... Wait, let's not get ahead of yourselves.
At that moment, Bai Shun and Wei Rong returned to the group after stretching their legs a bit. They were curious as to why their friends were circling the sofa.
"What's up?" Wei Rong asked pushing aside her friend.
"Liu Chao made a new friend," Shang Ren commented.
Wei Rong was interested. Liu Chao's new friends a categorized and they bring a certain atmosphere when joined to their group.
She stepped further in and raised a questioning brow at Shang Rong.
"This is little brother Chen Yan. You can call him XiaoYan."
"Oh. Okay." She gave the kid a second look. He looked familiar.
When Chen Yan turned to see the new comer, he smiled in recognition. "Givenchy Sister! You're here too?" he greeted with familiarity.
Everyone was confused.
It clicked for Wei Rong.
"Ah! Mr. Givenchy's little brother! Shun'er look! Its that cutie brother to the gorgeous big brother."
Liu Chao and Shang Ren's smiles dropped at this girl's fan girl speech. Yo, what happened to your etiquette?
Bai Shun made her way over and looked at the kid with genuine surprise. "Did you come here with your brother?" she asked quickly. Her everyday proud look was gone and replacing it was an eager puppy look.
Who can forget such a man? Gorgeous, rich, loyal and can hold a conversation, he was a template for the perfect man.
"Yup. We needed some koi for the villa pond so we came here. Well, that's what he said to me but its working hours for him," XiaoYan answered.
"Ummm... XiaoYan. This isn't me being rude nor opportunistic but what's your older brother's name?" Liu Chao asked hesitantly.
He knew he wasn't the only one who tied the kid's words together.
The kid has a 2 million yuan watch on his wrist, diamond earcuff and designer labeled clothing. His surname is Chen and his brother came here to 'shop' but its more like work. From the special attention from the waiter, the position of the brother is high.
"Chen Kai."
That innocent voice mentioned the name of the new Vice President of the Nanhe Group.
The young billion dollar investor.
The person they.......
"So that's his name! Can I meet him? He didn't even leave a contact yesterday." Bai Shun's exclamation dissolved their enlightenment.
Her words were broke it in one slash.
They were all thinking that their goal was about to be complete but this unnatural one went along the path of a lovesick fan girl.
"It was intentional."
Crack!
Those who heard the innocently barbed words swore they heard someone's confidence being destroyed.
Wouldn't he be harsh on a beauty like Bai Shun to know that a man she wanted to chase had no interest in her. None what so ever.
Poor thing.
"Oh, sorry. Brother says I must sugar coat my words. I guess I didn't do it well this time," XiaoYan muttered. He folded his arms tightly and a thoughtful look took over his face.
So Cute~~
The girls in the group couldn't help but fawn over the kid.
Liu Chao and Shang Ren found that this big brother was interesting, just by the advice he gave his little brother.
"How did you meet his brother, Sister Bai?" One of the girls asked. If the proud Bai Shun is crazy over the guy then he must be a star-like existence.
Their interest were piqued.
"Uh, yeah." It took her a few breaths to hurriedly fix her confidence.
"He's one of Givenchy's new shareholders."
Nanhe Group's Vice-President.
Givenchy's shareholder.
Isn't he God's favored on a novice level?
