Chapter 73: CHAPTER 73
c73: Purchasing a Skill Machine
Watching Leng Yue open her small mouth and widen her eyes in astonishment, she looked utterly shocked.
Chen Xiaoxiao couldn't hide her delight.
As soon as Latias emerged from the Poké Ball, the dragon Pokémon flew into Chen Xiaoxiao's arms and nuzzled her affectionately.
Leng Yue's icy gaze softened as it followed Latias's movement.
Watching the affectionate bond between Chen Xiaoxiao and Latias filled her with envy. She yearned to replace Chen Xiaoxiao and hold Latias for herself!
"Can I hug it?" Leng Yue asked, her voice trembling with longing.
"We'll need Latias's permission. Latias, this is my best… girlfriend," Chen Xiaoxiao replied, caught in a dilemma she couldn't override Latias's wishes.
"(Leng Yue, good!)," Latias greeted with a gentle telepathic message.
"Hello, Latias! May I hold you?" Leng Yue said, excitement shining in her voice.
Latias glanced at Chen Xiaoxiao for approval.
Leng Yue stared at Chen Xiaoxiao, gently urging her to allow it.
With a soft laugh, Chen Xiaoxiao relented, and Latias turned to give Leng Yue a loving kiss on the forehead.
Seeing Latias's affectionate gesture, Jiang Qi who had been silently watching was overjoyed.
After spending a playful noon together with Latias and Leng Yue, the clock struck two.
"Mom! Xiaoxiao and I are going shopping!" Leng Yue announced.
"Qin Aunt, we're heading out," Chen Xiaoxiao said.
"Have fun, girls," Qin Aunt replied with a warm smile.
Arm in arm, the two headed out. Their first stop was the women's clothing boutique sixty minutes later, dozens of outfits lay completedly purchased.
Next, they arrived at Yida Plaza, the capital's largest Pokémon department store. The familiar storefront made both girls smile in shared nostalgia.
"Xiaoyueyue, remember that Snaive boy Xu Fei?" Chen Xiaoxiao began as they passed the display of competitive Pokémon gear.
"Of course last season's National Alliance champion, runner-up at the Global League, the one who battled with Entei," Leng Yue replied. Though stoic in public, she followed league updates closely as she had since assembling her Ice‑type team for the Saffron Gym challenge.
"It's been three days since his title, and here we are again, just admiring his promotion," Chen Xiaoxiao sighed.
"Hmph. Admiration is one thing but the media claims he's China's strongest young trainer. I don't buy it. Xiaoxiao, you're far stronger than he is!" Leng Yue protested. "When you see him next, pin him down and parade riding on Entei! My dad hosted Articuno's exhibition at Indigo Plateau nearly ten years ago, but it never stirred headlines until the Championship announcement."
Her ice-training mindset kept her wary of Fire‑types.
"I already showed him how it's done. Don't worry," Chen Xiaoxiao replied.
Leng Yue's brow lifted in surprise, "You fought him? When?"
"Just days ago, in Shantou. His Entei's at champion level," Chen Xiaoxiao said matter-of-factly.
"Champion-level Entei? Among young male trainers, that's practically unrivaled! I haven't heard of anyone with that caliber before," Leng Yue remarked, clearly impressed.
"Is that so? Then perhaps he truly is the strongest among the younger generation?" Chen Xiaoxiao replied, half-expecting Leng Yue's skeptical reaction but satisfied that her friend now saw Xu Fei's strength.
"You think everyone's like you a 16‑year‑old champion trainer with two god‑beasts! Only people over 30 can get a Champion‑level Pokémon. My strongest Pokémon hasn't even reached Elite yet and I'm called a prodigy. Fine, let's compare…"
Leng Yue suddenly realized she had no mind to argue.
"Let's get some Skill Machines!" Chen Xiaoxiao said, spotting a TM (Technical Machine) shop ahead, and decisively changed the subject. How could she compare? Impossible. Her sister was hooked!
"Welcome! Which TM are you looking for?" the shop attendant greeted cheerfully.
"I'm buying support‑type Skill Machines," Chen Xiaoxiao said.
"Right this way." The attendant led them to the support TM section. Why buy support? They're cheap hundreds of thousands of Poké‑dollars; better ones cost a million. Attack TMs run in the millions. The attendant didn't blink professionalism.
Chen Xiaoxiao and Leng Yue weren't ordinary just look at their high‑capacity Poké‑bracelets, rare even among Elite trainers. The attendant noted it, winked, and guided them forward.
"Where are the weather‑control TMs: Sunny Day, Rain Dance, Sandstorm?" Chen Xiaoxiao asked.
"Here." The attendant retrieved three weather TMs Latias could learn. "Latias can only learn those. You might as well buy all three and extras for future use. Easier than coming back."
Chen Xiaoxiao smiled inwardly. "Got it. I want five of each weather TM, plus Protect, Light Screen, Reflect, Safeguard, Attract, Substitute five each." She clicked through over a dozen support‑type Skill Machines, ordering five copies each showing her "local‑tyrant" swagger.
"A big order 540 total!" the attendant thought, and recorded it carefully, then repeated it to Chen Xiaoxiao. After confirming accuracy, they began to pack the TMs.
"What are you buying all that for?" Leng Yue asked.
"Preparing ahead don't want to run out. We can go light on attack TMs later," Chen Xiaoxiao explained.
"Which attack TMs? You want a lot?" Leng Yue asked, imagining the cost.
"My attack TM collection's ready too," Chen Xiaoxiao replied, avoiding mention of the system.
"A rich woman!" Leng Yue sighed others couldn't stockpile TMs like this. Trainers usually learned moves over months from Pokémon, not bought machines expensive tools in anyone's Poké‑bag. Non-local moves were even pricier and slower to learn.
When the attendant finished, the total bill was under 100 million Poké‑dollars the largest single sum Chen Xiaoxiao had spent in both their lives. Her stomach twisted ouch, that much money!
