Chapter 55 - Theory Class (Part 2)
Of course, even at this level, the distinction among mecha engineers still depends on individual capability. Sometimes, even among senior and intermediate mecha engineers, the differences in skill can be quite significant.
This is because some individuals are able to reach this level, while others can only attain it; it’s not the same.
Additionally, mecha engineers within the established system do not represent the entire mecha engineer community in the starry skies, as many freelance engineers are not part of the official system.
Some of them simply do not want to spend the time to go through the formalities, while others are not enthusiastic about participating in the official grading process. They are more concerned with how to study the things that interest them and how to create the mechas of their dreams that will leave a mark in history.
Among these freelancers, some masters don’t need the thin validation of a certification to prove their skills and level; countless people seek them out to customize and assemble mechas for them. The cost of producing a specialized mecha often runs into exorbitant prices.
Why would they need to join an organization and get graded to prove themselves when they already possess wealth and status? Isn’t that just a waste of time?
Of course, this is beyond the scope of the current lecture. Jiang Hui felt that having the opportunity to meet such an intermediate mecha engineer and receive their instruction in everyday life was a valuable experience; her participation in this event was truly worthwhile.
This mecha engineer’s lecture differed from the previous one, which focused more on the origins of mecha development. This one discussed several mechanical revolutions that occurred after the birth of mecha, and how each event led to groundbreaking developments in the field.
It turned out that the giant combination mecha that Dongbo Group specializes in is also a product of the most recent mecha revolution. Since its inception, it has resolved numerous crises on the star battlefield and has made significant advancements in assault operations.
In addition to the aforementioned giant combination mechas, there are various other types of mechas, such as animal-shaped mechas, battlefield-specific mechas, heavy mechas, auxiliary light armor, fully-equipped heavy mechas, integrated mechas, and typical standard mechas, among others… the categories are so diverse that they are countless.
Hearing about these myriad classifications left Jiang Hui feeling dazzled. It felt like one could study mecha types for a lifetime.
The intermediate mecha engineer lectured for a longer period, and this part of the lecture garnered more interest from the participants compared to the previous one. After all, it was much more engaging than listening to the earlier speaker.
Finally, the main event of this hands-on experience class began, with a teacher from Wanhua Intermediate Academy, a B-level mecha engineer, explaining to everyone, using a simple miniature standard mecha as the experimental equipment.
At this point, all the participants perked up and listened intently to this crucial segment, as it was the primary purpose of their attendance.
The teacher systematically disassembled the 1:1 scaled-down miniature mecha. From the large metal plates on the back to the tiny structures at the finger joints, each component was carefully and swiftly taken apart without any damage, then neatly arranged on the workbench.
Jiang Hui finally understood why the organizers had arranged such a large workbench for everyone; the bench was almost too small to accommodate half of the disassembled materials.
By the time the teacher had disassembled the miniature mecha halfway, the workbench was already struggling to fit everything. The teacher had to carefully shift the previously disassembled materials upward and reduce their spacing to make room for more components. Shifting them forward, squeezing them to the side, and repeating this process quickly transformed what appeared to Jiang Hui as a complex standard miniature mecha into a scattered assortment of parts.
It was hard to believe that the seemingly heavy miniature mecha, which was not small in size when held, could be disassembled into such a large pile of tiny parts. Each piece was intricately detailed, and it was said that this simulated miniature mecha had a total of 3,792 small components when fully taken apart…
What’s more, this was supposedly the simplest standard type of mecha according to the teacher. Wouldn’t the other, more complicated ones be a hundred, a thousand, or even ten thousand times more complex?
Although Jiang Hui was genuinely interested in these things and became more engaged as she listened, she felt overwhelmed by the sheer complexity of the craftsmanship, causing her to feel a bit intimidated.
However, she was only there to gain some exposure. After all, she had heard that the combat unit department at her school also had mecha classes, and she might have to operate a mecha herself one day. So, gaining some basic understanding now should be… beneficial, right?
Jiang Hui tried to persuade herself and continued to listen attentively, silently aiming to remember every word the teacher explained and all those intricate parts.
Perhaps at this moment, even Jiang Hui herself didn’t realize that she was harboring a deep admiration for mecha manufacturing, gazing at each potential knowledge point like a thirsty seeker of knowledge, unwilling to let any detail slip by.
This segment of the course felt lengthy, but neither Jiang Hui nor the other participants found it to be so. Everyone was earnestly and diligently trying to absorb the information being shared.
This was also a rare opportunity for them to interact with mechas because even studying miniature mechas was something that ordinary people seldom encountered.
However, no matter how seriously they listened, there was still a time limit. The duration of the activity was limited, and most of the remaining time needed to be reserved for the children to practice assembling the mechas; otherwise, wouldn’t this event completely miss the mark?
When the teacher finished the lecture, the participants in the room couldn’t help but let out a series of disappointed sighs, wanting to persuade him to continue speaking for a while longer. However, he politely declined, even jokingly inviting everyone to attend Wanhua Intermediate Academy, saying they might have the chance to meet him there.
In the end, he was quite considerate and didn’t remove the display of the disassembled parts; instead, he left it there for everyone to refer to while assembling their handmade mechas.
After the lectures from the three teachers, the participants were inevitably a bit excited. After all, they were young kids, and no matter how obedient or sensible they were, it was hard to suppress their emotions all the time.
Many of those sitting nearby began to discuss the knowledge shared by the teachers. Some complained that the teachers spoke too quickly for them to understand anything, while others happily told their companions that they seemed to be keeping up with what the teacher was saying. Some loudly exclaimed that they wanted to assemble mechas right now. The entire conference hall was bustling with voices, with everyone saying something different.
Not to mention them; even Jiang Hui felt a surge of excitement after such a rewarding lecture. This was the first time she had encountered something so professional since arriving in the interstellar realm, especially regarding mechas, a revolutionary weapon.
Jiang Hui felt as if she was touching something distant and incredible, while a thought bubbled up from deep within her soul, resonating in response.
She wanted to… give it a try.
