Chapter 100 - Divine Cat Mii-chan praises everyone's efforts.
100 Divine Cat Mii-chan praises everyone’s efforts.
They arrived at the training grounds.
“What are we doing?”
“We’re having a mock battle.”
“With those people over there?”
“Yes, we’ll spar with them without causing serious injuries. Sera will join in as well. Lu-kun will use his Charm Eyes to incapacitate the opponents.”
“Sounds fun!”
“Meow!”
“Ruff!”
“Mii-chan, please cheer them on.”
“Mee~”
Müller and the members of the Roar of the Azure Dragon were watching with smirks. It was a bit unsettling.
“Hahaha! You’re not telling me you’re going to face off against such tiny ones, are you?”
“The rules are no real weapons in this mock battle. It will be four against five—are you okay with that?”
“Fine. If we win, there should be no complaints.”
“Hmph, you talk big. I was going to forgive you if you apologized, but forget it!”
Curious onlookers from the guild and idle hunters have gathered as a gallery. They are buzzing with excitement, making predictions about the match.
Perro is joyfully swinging his training sword, while Sera, still in her cat form, and Lu-kun, who is yawning, are ready. Our team is a formidable group.
I’m armed with nothing but a large water bag filled to the brim and some packets of paralysis powder hidden in paper for emergencies.
“Let’s begin. Start!”
Perro and Sera, back in their original forms, charge towards the beastmen.
The feline beastwoman drops her weapon and smiles in a goofy manner. Lu-kun’s charm eyes must be the cause. His role is done; he should stay back for safety.
“Grr!”
“Anya! Damn, using such suspicious magic. Tim, let’s go!”
Tim, the cat beastman, is visibly shaking and chattering his teeth. He’s in no condition to fight.
From the start, I’m using my water skill to create supercooled water and forming it into balls to pelt at them. It’s incredibly cold. I’d want to avoid it myself.
Perro is outpacing the canine beastman with speed. Oh, he just knocked the sword away and is now holding it against his throat. Perro’s sword skills are impressive!
Sera is overwhelming. After the initial shock of returning to her original form, she is dominating the panther beastman with brute force. She’s playing around, batting away swords with her paws and using her tail to slap the sword-wielding hand. When the panther beastman trips over her tail and falls, she puts her fangs to his throat. It’s clear she didn’t even need to go all out.
With only the tigress beastwoman remaining, I ask:
“Are you still going to continue?”
“Don’t mess around!”
She charges with a magnificent dash, sword ready. I’m deliberately unarmed, inviting her to attack.
She seems to react to my lack of defense and, grinning, gets close. But she ends up being blasted away by an air cannon at point-blank range, possibly knocked unconscious.
“Ugh, wh-what was that…?”
Wow, she’s tough. Despite even the male hunter being knocked out, this tigress beastwoman gets back up.
However, to avoid further trouble, I pull out the paralysis powder packet and, with a breath and air skill, cover her mouth and nose with it.
She collapses, dropping her sword and shaking uncontrollably.
I turn to Tim, the trembling cat beastman:
“Do you want to continue?”
He shakes his head vigorously.
“Guild Master!”
The guild master looks stunned, but my voice seems to snap him back to reality.
“That’s enough.”
“That was a breeze!”
“Meow!”
“Grr!”
The training ground falls silent for a moment, then erupts with cheering.
Mii-chan runs over to us, showering everyone with affectionate licks and praise. Meanwhile, Lu-kun is being held and nuzzled by the cat beastman Aniya. I wonder when he’ll be freed.
“Meow!”
“Grr…”
Mii-chan brings over a bucket, and I pour water from the large water sack into it, heating it up before using it to warm Tim, the trembling cat beastman.
“Th-thank you.”
After a few splashes, his shivering finally stops.
“What about Laura and Aniya?”
The leopard beastman and the canine beastman get up and move toward the tigress beastwoman.
The tigress beastwoman glares at me with her eyes, even though she can’t move her body.
“It’s just paralysis. The tigress is under a charm effect. She’ll recover after a while, though a universal antidote could fix it too.”
“You used poison!”
“Please stop with the misleading terms. It’s a paralysis powder, not poison. It’s completely harmless apart from causing paralysis.”
“You used a cowardly trick!”
“Oh, is this the excuse of a loser?”
“Grr…”
“You were caught off guard, but if this were a real battle, you would all be wiped out.”
“…”
“Nero, let it go. This has been a good lesson for Darkfangs. They’ve learned how dangerous complacency can be.”
Since the guild master said so, there’s no helping it. I pour mineral water into a cup and give it to the two affected individuals.
“Huh?”
“Ugh, I can move!”
“Enough of the charade! Get back to work!”
After the guild master’s announcement, the spectators were forcibly dispersed. As I was carrying Mii-chan and heading back to the meeting room, Müller approached me.
“Wasn’t that a bit excessive, Nero?”
“I think it was just right. I’d rather not have problems after the investigation starts.”
“So, this is a particularly important investigation?”
“Exactly.”
When we returned to the meeting room, the guild master issued a stern comment.
“With the current Darkfangs, no matter how many times they fight, they won’t beat Nero and his team. Do you understand that?”
“…”
“So, will you accept this request?”
“Y-Yes, we will accept…”
“No complaints allowed.”
“Understood.”
“Nero, it seems. For my sake, can we let the earlier incident go?”
It felt a bit anticlimactic. The guild master managed to smooth things over effectively. Well, it’s good that there’s no more hassle.
“Will the members of Azure Roar accept the request?”
“We were planning to accept it from the beginning. No problem.”
With that confirmed, it’s time to get into the actual explanation. It’s fine if I continue holding Mii-chan, right?
“Meow!”
