Chapter 30: [30] The Bunny Girl Outfit is Discovered!
Chapter 30: The Bunny Girl Outfit is Discovered!
When Shunsuke returned home, it was already quite late. But there was no helping it—after parting ways with Koizumi, he found a restaurant to fill his stomach.
Opening the door, he saw Mrs. Izumi and Chihiro drinking beer, with takeout boxes scattered across the living room.
In a place as stifling as Japan, even the most traditional and well-behaved women had to knock back a couple of bottles once they entered society.
Shunsuke wasn't particularly fond of alcohol, nor of drunk women, but he couldn't stop them from drinking.
After all, even a shut-in like him probably had some pressure to relieve... right?
Seeing Mrs. Izumi clearly drunker than the day before, now in a full-on drinking contest with Chihiro, Shunsuke's mood soured.
He grabbed the beer can from her hand, complaining, "Sengoku-sensei, why are you here again? Why do you keep bullying her? Don't you know she has a terrible tolerance for alcohol?"
"Fujii, you're too young to understand. Alcohol is the ultimate cure-all for adult troubles. Adults can't live without it. Once you grow up, you'll realize that all it takes is another can of beer to make life better," Chihiro slurred, clearly not remorseful.
"So, how about it? Want to try one? If you're going to accuse me of bullying Izumi, why don't you lend me a hand instead?"
"What kind of teacher are you? Where's your sense of responsibility?"
"It's after work hours now. As a working adult, if you don't separate work time from off time, life gets exhausting."
"As for responsibility? I threw that out back when I was still just a gleam in my dad's eye."
"Good grief."
Shunsuke was helpless when faced with such shameless adults.
While they were talking, Mrs. Izumi finally lost her last thread of coherence and collapsed under the table.
"Seriously, give me a break. If she sleeps like this, she'll catch a cold."
Muttering like a nagging mother, Shunsuke set the paper bag on a chair, then lifted Mrs. Izumi in a princess carry and took her to her room.
Afterward, he went through the usual routine—wiping her face, helping her absorb fluids, and giving her a glass of warm milk.
Once everything was settled and he returned to the living room, he noticed that Mashiro was there too.
"How was your first day at school? Did anyone bully you? Make any friends?"
Mashiro, like Koizumi, replied with a blank expression, "I don't know."
Shunsuke chuckled, "Not a yes or no, but 'I don't know.' That's such a Mashiro-style answer."
At that moment, Chihiro chimed in with a mischievous grin, "So, Fujii, what do you think of Mashiro?"
"What exactly do you mean by that...?"
"Of course, I'm talking about her body. Mashiro's got a great figure, don't you think? Don't tell me you haven't noticed."
"What the heck?! How did someone like you even become a teacher?!" Shunsuke was shocked.
"Hmph, you're the one who brought Mashiro into your home, right? What was supposed to be a one-night stay has turned into a permanent arrangement. If it weren't for me, someone else would've called the police by now," Chihiro complained, taking a big swig of beer. "Kid, I'm creating opportunities for you here. You should be grateful, you know?"
"That's something you can actually say in front of her?"
"What's the big deal? Mashiro wants to stay here anyway; it was her idea in the first place."
"And don't change the subject. You asked why I came over today. Did you really think I'd just leave Mashiro here forever? You're secretly thrilled, but still complain about this and that. Nobody likes a man who grumbles."
"Mind your own business."
Shunsuke could only weakly retort, then pretended he needed to go to the bathroom.
"Onii-chan, you're late getting back today."
Sagiri, who had been in her room, came out and looked at Shunsuke with some discontent, like a wife upset at her husband for coming home late.
"Sorry, sorry."
Shunsuke didn't make excuses, he just patted Sagiri's head.
Sagiri was immediately pacified.
After Shunsuke went to the bathroom, Sagiri wanted to return to her room but hesitated, wanting to talk more with him.
However, standing outside the bathroom door would seem too creepy, so after thinking it over, she reluctantly went to the living room instead.
"Yo, Sagiri-chan, want a drink?"
"No way."
Sagiri kept her distance from Chihiro and found a chair to sit on, only to notice a paper bag she didn't recognize.
"Huh? Is there a gift inside? If it's a gift, I might just forgive Onii-chan."
Her mind full of Shunsuke, she happily opened the bag, looking for any excuse to be excited.
Inside was a bunny girl outfit.
"..."
Sagiri was speechless.
"Fujii, you're bolder than I thought," Chihiro teased with a whistle.
Mashiro curiously picked up the bunny girl outfit and gave it a shake.
"Onii-chan, you're the worst!"
"What, what happened?!"
Shunsuke rushed out in a panic, only to be met by the bunny girl outfit Sagiri angrily threw at him.
Caught off guard (or so it seemed), he was hit square in the face by the outfit, which had once been worn by Mai.
"Wait, Sagiri, let me explain!"
Time was tight, and Shunsuke didn't even have the chance to pull the outfit off his head before grabbing hold of Sagiri, who was trying to storm off into her room.
Sagiri struggled with all her might, "I don't want to hear it! I'm not listening!"
"Shunsuke, do you want me to wear it?" Mashiro casually added fuel to the fire.
"Za Warudo!"
The chaos was too much to handle, so Shunsuke froze time to think.
"One second has passed."
His mind raced, too fast to even bother taking the bunny girl outfit off his head.
"Two seconds have passed."
Time resumed.
Shunsuke quickly pulled Sagiri into his arms, sitting down on the floor with her, his thigh pressing against her chest, holding her tightly in a 360-degree embrace, sharing his warmth.
The effect was immediate. Sagiri stopped struggling.
"Sagiri, this was something Mrs. Izumi asked me to buy. She wants to draw a bunny girl character and wanted to try on the outfit to get a feel for it. I couldn't refuse her request, so I bought it."
Without hesitation, Shunsuke threw the blame onto the only person not present.
This was the cunning nature of adulthood—when major decisions or mishaps arise, it's always the person who's temporarily absent who takes the fall.
"Really?" Sagiri asked softly.
"Really," Shunsuke answered confidently.
"Okay, I believe you, Onii-chan." Sagiri's face flushed red. "Mom really is the worst, after all."
"..."
Shunsuke felt a pang of pain in his heart.
Watching from the sidelines, Chihiro took a sip of beer, amused by the whole scene.
What a joke. Did she really not know Izumi's size? The proportions of that bunny girl outfit were clearly wrong—its chest area was way too big.
And from the way the outfit was folded, without any packaging, it was obvious it had been worn before. There was no way it was brand new—this was the real deal, worn as is!
"Shunsuke's all grown up now, huh," Chihiro mused, her role as an observer turning unexpectedly sentimental.
"Damn it, where's my destined man?" she muttered, feeling a sudden urge to cry.
