The Slytherin Magus

Chapter 66. Unlucky Wizards and Wands

I changed directions, searching for the tomb instead.

During my time here, I made sure to properly check out Hogwarts so I knew exactly where it was. Getting there was my major problem.

If it were any other Wizard, they would be out cold by now from the blood loss and the violent impacts that I had been hit with.

Even though my stamina was way above average, I could still feel the effects.

I tried to hurry up the best I could while on my feet, I clutched my side where Harry's curse had hit.

There were no external injuries that I could see which meant that something internal had gone wrong.

The scrapes I had gotten from slamming into the tree and earlier in the corridor of the 5th floor had been healed up by the simple healing charm.

I knew some pretty complex healing charms but my wand was broken, I couldn't try it even if I had the time to.

I could finally see the white tomb where Dumbledore's corpse was resting.

I wanted to feel bad for desecrating the grave of such a person but the terror of losing everything propelled me forward.

Getting inside the tomb was no easy task and I saw my wand crack the further I got past the wards that had been set up.

Figuring the wards out to try and pry them open would take precious time that I didn't have so I was forced to use brute force.

My already badly cracked wand broke in two when the lid of the tomb finally slid open, the sound of marble moving over marble grating on my ears.

I was just as surprised at my wand breaking as I was with the tomb opening.

I mean, I hoped it would, I banked everything on it opening but I figured that it wouldn't work out for me, same as everything else.

I pushed the lid open further, bowing deeply to show my remorse for having to desecrate a grave. Then I moved quickly, carefully checking around the sides of the white sheet covering Dumbledore so that I wouldn't have to take it off.

After a couple seconds of fiddling around, my fingers found purchase around the smooth, curved handle of a wand.

I pulled it out and what do you know, it was the Elder wand. It had been a little too easy to get hold of it.

I closed the tomb once more, making sure to replace the wards as best as I could.

The wand worked like a charm, it didn't feel any different from my previous wand but I would find out the full extent of its powers quite soon.

I picked up the broken pieces of my wand, fixing it with the Elder wand.

My previously broken wand magically sealed itself together, looking brand new, not even a crack in sight.

It was the real deal alright.

I shoved my wand inside the inner pocket of my robes, nothing wrong with having a backup wand in case the need arose.

I tried unsupported flight again and the difference was clear, if it already wasn't when I was able to fix my broken wand with the Elder wand.

But this time, I could move faster and easier through the air. I dropped out of the sky when I got past the train tracks, landing lithely on the snow-covered grass.

I sat down when I was free from Hogwarts grounds, looking back over the train tracks to the looming castle on a cliff.

I had to catch my breath and also try to figure out what the fuck to do.

I might have been 23 in my past life but right now I truly felt like a 17-year-old boy who had the ground pulled out from under his feet.

It was enough to make a grown man feel like crying.

I thought I had my shit together in this new world where I had been granted a second chance at living.

'I guess not.'

I deluded myself into thinking that I was the main character in this new world, that after performing such heroic acts my slate would be wiped clean and I could go ahead to be the best I could be,

I wasn't though, right now I was pretty much the villain, the villain who had knocked out the main character a handful of miles back.

What do I do now?

I had reacted instinctively to the possible danger that Professor Slughorn drawing his wand posed to me.

I wasn't given any chance to think after that because Harry was chasing me down and although I hadn't hurt anyone, he didn't seem to have any qualms doing the same to me.

It was pretty tough being a dark Wizard in this world.

I couldn't go back to Hogwarts because I doubted that they would give me a chance to explain myself and even if they did give me a chance, they wouldn't believe what I say.

We would be back at the impasse that happened before hell broke loose.

Professor Slughorn had reacted in dread so I couldn't blame him, but I put my safety first.

For him to be unable to even be able to dip into my mind, as one of the most skilled Legilimens there was, meant that I couldn't even be human.

Without knowing what I was thinking, he had no way to tell if I had intentions of doing something bad so he reacted in that way.

Most likely trying to incapacitate me so that they would get the first strike.

I wasn't holding my wand, he couldn't have predicted that I would be so proficient in wandless magic.

I sat on the snowy ground for a while, ignoring the cold seeping through my robes. I made it waterproof but it didn't stop the coldness from seeping through.

A faint rustle caught my attention and I shot to my feet immediately, I wasn't alone.

-*-

Minerva glared at Professor Slughorn when the dust and debris from the explosion cleared out.

Harry had rushed out after the first explosion, going after Albeline without asking any questions.

Gabe, the 7th year prefect had been knocked out from the second explosion, he looked unharmed though, just out of it.

"What was that behavior, Professor Slughorn?" She snapped, dusting shards of wood from her robes. "Pointing your wand at a student…"

"With all due respect, Headmistress, a mere student wouldn't be capable of all this." He waved a hand at the wrecked state of his office.

Headmistress McGonagall gulped and went quiet, even if a student prodigy could perform wandless magic, his precision and reaction rate was on the level of an experienced Auror.

It was terrifying for a child to wield such power.

"Were you able to get any information from him then?" She straightened her shoulders, walking around the pile of debris that was once Professor Slughorn's desk.

Professor Slughorn went to his tea shelf again, this time to prepare tea for himself.

"I couldn't even get into his mind, it had the consistency of a strange metal, it had no give." He explained coldly.

Horror settled in layers in Professor McGonagall's eyes. "B-But that is impossible."

Professor Slughorn sighed, looking exhausted as he sipped on his steaming tea. "I don't think he was willingly pushing me out because it didn't feel like it, it's more like there was a barrier protecting his mind… I don't know…"

Professor Slughorn seemed to mutter to himself at this point, as if he was trying to figure out what had happened.

"Is he inhuman? Or is it some kind of spell?" McGonagall asked with trepidation.

"I have no idea, I have never come across something like this in all my years."

Headmistress McGonagall walked to the destroyed doorway. "Be as it may, he is still under suspicion for killing a fellow student." She concluded. "I will have to trouble you to take care of the damage as well as transport the knocked-out student to the Infirmary."

She started to leave Slughorn's office only to stop and turn around again. "One more thing, Professor, It doesn't matter if you have to use a memory charm, make sure the knocked-out student does not reveal any of what he heard."

"Very well." Professor Slughorn demurred, getting up to walk to a different cabinet, tea simply wasn't cutting it.
