The Seventh Base

Chapter 108 Exposure_2

"Bitch."

Upon learning the news, Douglas said in a fury, his eyes extremely cold. Elizabeth, that bitch, had meddled in his affairs again, opposing him repeatedly.

Once Prince Charles took power, he would make sure Elizabeth paid dearly.

The proud and beautiful princess must be really enjoying herself.

He wasn't the least bit worried about the investigation. The two deaths were indeed suicides without any question, and no evidence indicated that their deaths were linked to him. What was there to investigate?

No matter how they probed, they would find nothing leading to him.

With his status, no one would dare to coerce confessions from him.

"Xu Mo!"

A murderous intent flashed in Douglas's eyes, a mere librarian dewrongaring to oppose him—reporting him under real name?

After this affair blew over, he planned to make Xu Mo die in an accident.

However, Douglas was clearly oversimplifying things.

The next day, Douglas received a communicator call from his father.

"Dad," Douglas called out.

"Look at the news yourself," a cold voice came from the communicator. Douglas picked up the device and opened some trending news, seeing his name prominently displayed.

The son of the Minister of Defense, Douglas, is suspected of abuse, sexual violence, and murder.

"Son of a bitch," Douglas roared in anger. Who did this?

"Did you do it?" A cold question came from the communicator.

"No," Douglas denied.

"Who have you offended recently?" the voice continued to press.

"Xu Mo?" Douglas said, "Impossible. A librarian doesn't have that kind of power. Elizabeth—it could be Elizabeth trying to take me down."

He was Prince Charles's man, and it was very likely Elizabeth targeting him.

Once the headline came out, whether or not he was guilty, his reputation was already ruined.

Moreover, this was all inseparably linked to him; if there were truly no connection, he would have nothing to fear.

"Dad, can you check for me who is behind this?" Douglas said.

"I've already checked. Media is adding fuel to the fire, backed by financial motivations, with accounts from other planets involved. Whoever is targeting you is not simple," his father continued.

"Other planets?" Douglas frowned.

"Since you didn't do it, wait for the news." The communicator cut off, and Douglas stared at the screen, still showing photos of him with Avril and Clay. Although there was no evidence proving their suicides were linked to him, these photos, coupled with their deaths, were enough to thrust him into the eye of the storm.

At that moment, the communicator vibrated again. Douglas answered, calming his emotions, and spoke, "Prince Charlie."

"What have you done?" Prince Charles's voice was somewhat cold.

"Someone is targeting me, it's very likely to be Elizabeth," Douglas said.

"Elizabeth?" Prince Charles said.

"Yes," Douglas responded. "The librarian filed an official report against me. Elizabeth added to it, and that led to an investigation. Afterwards, some concealed forces used their power to start a public opinion campaign, aiming to destroy me."

"The librarian?" Prince Charles asked.

"Yes, the one we met at the library," Douglas said, his eyes chilling. He could never have imagined that Xu Mo's report would cause such a storm.

"I'll find a way to suppress the public opinion," Prince Charles said.

"Thank you, Your Highness," Douglas said.

After hanging up the communicator, Douglas's expression became extremely grim.

The scandal was fermenting outside—the Minister of Defense's son was a highly sensitive figure. Two consecutive suicides were out of the ordinary, especially after Avril's death, when Douglas had Mechanical Police apprehend a librarian from Lucas University. It was a clear abuse of power.

As the investigation deepened, more information came to light about the relationship between Avril, Clay, and Douglas. It had been proven that Douglas was involved with both women, who committed suicide one after another, raising highly suspicious circumstances.

However, a power soon emerged that began to suppress the public discourse.

Additionally, many media outlets spoke out, condemning the trial by public opinion.

The storm seemed to be subsiding.

Xu Mo had no desire to initiate a trial by public opinion; given Douglas's status, hoping for an official investigation was almost out of the question.

After all, they had no evidence.

And even under the current circumstances, it might still end unresolved.

In the library, Xu Mo sat quietly at his desk, reading as if nothing had happened, with Zero silently accompanying him, sensing that Xu Mo was not in a good mood.

Sitting opposite Xu Mo, Sorey spoke, "The public opinion has been suppressed, and the other party is fighting back."

"Hmm," Xu Mo nodded—it was expected. Just a real-name report and leveraging the power of public opinion, while making Douglas uncomfortable, were hardly enough to bring him down.

"What's our next move?" Sorey asked.

"Wait for my message," Xu Mo replied in a low voice.

"Okay," Sorey nodded, trusting in the capabilities of the Xu brothers implicitly.

He enjoyed being involved in grand schemes with Xu Mo—it was thrilling.

After Sorey left, Xu Mo picked up the communicator and dialed an unfamiliar number.

"Who is this?" A cold voice came from the other side.

"Xu Mo," Xu Mo replied, and upon hearing his name, the other side fell silent.

"Let's meet somewhere," Xu Mo said.

"Alright," the other person agreed without any hesitation.
