The Seventh Base

Chapter 107: One Must Die_2

He was obsessive about cleanliness, and forbade anyone from touching a woman he had touched, even in death.

The people in the library all felt the chilling aura emanating from Douglas, their eyes turning towards him in unison. What was he planning to do?

It seemed as though Douglas was headed straight for Xu Mo.

The two seemed to have a history of enmity, right? Back when Prince Charles visited, Douglas had humiliated Xu Mo, but at that time, he didn't gain the upper hand.

Everyone in the library couldn't help but tense up. Although Xu Mo was outstanding, Douglas was not an ordinary person. A young master from a top-tier noble family, although he was, like them, a student at Lucas University, when it came to status, Douglas was actually a person at the very top of the pyramid.

If nothing unexpected happened, Douglas would likely join the Military District for trials after graduation, and eventually enter the Ministry of Defense.

If he were to go after Xu Mo, Xu Mo would undoubtedly be at a disadvantage.

Douglas walked up and sat directly across from Xu Mo, his piercing gaze fixed on him.

Xu Mo looked up and stared back at him, his eyes just as cold. When their eyes met, the air around them seemed to freeze, and the atmosphere became oppressively tense. Around them, everyone quieted down, not a single sound was heard. They sensed that something was off.

"I have some matters to discuss with Xu Mo, could everyone please give us some space?" Douglas said to the surrounding crowd. The silent group murmured and many stood up to leave but stopped at a distance, still looking back. It seemed they were worried Douglas might make a move on Xu Mo.

But Xu Mo also didn't seem like someone easy to mess with, did he?

It was just that his identity as a librarian made him appear to be at a disadvantage.

Seeing the people around them leaving, Douglas asked Xu Mo in a low voice, "Did you touch her?"

His eyes were fixed on Xu Mo, icy cold, with a hint of murderous intent.

This was the first time Xu Mo and Douglas had come into such close contact. There was something about him that revealed a military bearing, a trait that related to his background. His father had risen from the Military District, and all members of his family would undergo trials in the military.

Xu Mo had not anticipated that, after Elizabeth's death, what Douglas cared about was whether he had touched her.

So, to him, Elizabeth's life or death was irrelevant. Whether or not Xu Mo had touched her was more important than her life.

"How do you know?" Xu Mo didn't deny it but instead countered.

At Xu Mo's words, the murderous look in Douglas's eyes intensified. A crackling sound filled the air as he clenched his fist on the desk.

"Did you do it?" Xu Mo asked, staring into Douglas's eyes.

Douglas met his gaze unabashedly, his eyes also filled with a frigid intent. After a moment of anger, his expression turned into a sneer, as venomous as a snake, he said, "No, it was you."

Xu Mo frowned.

"I now suspect that Elizabeth's death has something to do with you," Douglas said, his gaze locked onto Xu Mo. "Wait for death."

Saying this, Douglas stood up and left.

He walked away with a straight posture and steady steps, exuding a sense of power with each stride.

Xu Mo, you're seeking your own death.

If that's the case, he would make it happen.

Watching Douglas's departing figure, Xu Mo couldn't help but feel a sense of irony.

He was suspecting him?

And telling him to wait for death?

So, would he become a suspect just because he had been in contact with Elizabeth?

Even if just a suspect, being taken in for questioning would likely make the subsequent events uncontrollable.

Xu Mo hadn't yet made a move against him, but Douglas was already planning to strike first.

In that case, it seemed one of them would have to 'die.'

With this thought, Xu Mo took out his communicator and dialed a number.

"Elizabeth," Xu Mo called out.

"What's wrong?" Elizabeth sensed something strange in Xu Mo's tone.

"Today, Douglas's girlfriend, Elizabeth, committed suicide by taking pills in her dormitory. A few days ago, she told me she was planning to break up. Also, another woman Douglas was involved with outside also committed suicide."

Xu Mo spoke in a low voice, "Just now, Douglas came to me, claiming he suspects Elizabeth's death has something to do with me and told me to wait for death."

Elizabeth was silent for a moment, seemingly digesting the news she had just heard.

"I'll contact the police," Elizabeth said.

"No..." Xu Mo interjected. "Let the police come. I want to deal with Douglas."

After a pause, Elizabeth knew that Douglas was also implicated in the last incident with the Blue Star Energy Technology Group.

Xu Mo was likely not willing to bear it any longer.

"Alright," Elizabeth responded with a single word.

Xu Mo turned off the communicator, and people from the library approached him, asking, "Xu Mo, what did Douglas want with you? Nothing's wrong, right?"

"There is a problem," Xu Mo replied, causing the inquiring girl to pause.

"It's a big deal," Xu Mo continued, leaving the girl looking at him, somewhat bewildered.

A big deal?

So, was something about to happen?

Douglas acted quickly.

The energy of power was enormous, especially at the very top. Douglas's family influence spanned the military, and it was not hard to imagine how influential he could be. For ordinary people, Douglas could easily make someone disappear.

Thus, outside the library, Mechanical Police arrived quickly. Some people were gliding through the air while others piloted flying devices. When they landed, it instantly attracted a lot of attention, and students from Lucas University swiftly gathered, buzzing with conversation.
