Chapter 2. (7)
Turyn felt a sense of danger when it saw the Monstrous Nightmare leap onto a nearby burning house and opened its jaw from which a glowing dangerous light gathered before a large ray of fire erupted in his direction at a speed so fast that the only reason he was still alive was because his training instincts kicked in causing his body to react even before his mind could process what was happening, and raised his left hand blocking the hot fire with his shield.
Even behind the safety of his shield, Turyn could feel the immense heat and rage radiating from the flames wishing to melt his face off before turning him to ash but even so he held on. The dragon’s attack ended after a few seconds leaving the smell of burning wood and melting metal behind. Turyn glanced over his shield to see that the dragon had closed its mouth probably to recharge itself for another breath attack. Turyn knew he only had 1 or at most 2 seconds before another attack arrived but as he took a quick glance at his shield, he knew it wouldn’t be able to withstand another one of those attacks and so he quickly looked around at his surrounding trying to calculate what to do next and that’s when he saw the weapons rack near his house a few feet away with weapons of various kinds lined on it. Most of the weapons were missing probably taken by other villagers to deal with the dragons attacking them leaving only a few weapons.
At first Turyn thought of getting another shield and continue to attack with his shield and axe but he quickly changed his mind when he saw one of the weapons on the rack.
He quickly made a decision and dropped his shield and equipped his current axe to his left hand and with his right hand, he chose his new weapons. A 5-meter-long rope with two heavy iron balls attached to both of its end. A Bolas.
He quickly turned to see the Monstrous Nightmare’s jaw already open a few meters away and so without hesitation he rolled to his side just as another ray even more powerful than the one before attacking him and judging by the earth beside him that was currently already liquified into molten magma, he knew he had made the right choice. Had he chosen to block that attack even with a new shield he would have been immediately burned to death as the common iron shield wouldn’t have been able to handle such heat and power.
The ray of fire continued to follow him as the dragon turned its head in his direction and so he continued to roll however he rolled around in a circular path which brought him closer to the dragon itself. After a few seconds of rolling around and dodging, the dragon once again closed its mouth already feeling fatigued from having sprayed its most powerful fire in the last 2 attacks and it needed a few more seconds to allow its fire making organs to regain their stamina. It was in this moment of rest that Turyn chose to attack, he immediately swung his right arm for a millisecond before releasing the Bola which spun gracefully in the air before wrapping itself around the monster’s mouth completely sealing it shut preventing it from uttering its terrible flames.
The dragon raised its head in shock as it glanced at the ropes wrapped around its mouth in shock before quickly raising its wing claws to its mouth as it tried to pry the Bola of its mouth and while it was distracted, Turyn ran towards the dragon his axe already back in his right hand ready to end the dragon once and for all. By the time the dragon managed to pry the Bola away from its mouth and turn back towards the little Viking it was already too late. Turyn had already arrived to the dragon’s left side right next to its neck area with his bloodied axe already raised high in air. The dragon could only watch with its eyes widened in horror as the axe swung downwards sinking deep within the dragon’s neck, breaking its spine before getting stuck three quarters within its flesh but this was already more than enough.
The dragon gave one last glance of horror and hatred before collapsing on the ground, its eyes already having lost their twinkle as vast amount of blood splashed out spraying Turyn in a shower of hot dragon blood. Turyn simply stood there motionless for a few minutes as he contemplated what had just happened after which he simply raised his head but now instead of a panicked and terrified look like before he now had a calm and collected look with a dangerous glint in his eyes. He looked down as the massive still beast as he finally confirmed it. He had done it. He had killed a dragon however just that wasn’t enough to cause him to stand there frozen in the middle of road during an ongoing dragon attack. It’s what had happened afterwards that had caused him to freeze on his feet. He had suddenly felt an unnatural surge of energy being released deep within himself and he had a feeling as if something had been broken open realising this energy and with it came an instinctive flood of information surging into his brain causing him to stand still. It was only after a few minutes that he came back to reality but what had just happened and the information he had been given was so shocking that he didn’t even know what to do. He could only lock away his current rapidly churning thoughts at the back of his mind as he focused on his current task, helping his father defend their village.
