You'll be Safe Here
Chapter 15 : You'll be Safe Here
Suddenly, a loud knock on the door interrupted them. Both of them froze, exchanging a glance filled with concern and uncertainty.
"Who is it?" Joy asked, her voice trembling with anxiety.
Chris sprang to his feet, a steely determination in his eyes as he cautiously approached the door, muscles tensed and ready for a potential confrontation.
"It's the housekeeper, ma'am," came the reply, calm and respectful, yet tinged with a hint of reassurance.
Chris paused, hand hovering over the doorknob. He glanced back at Joy, who gave a slight nod, her eyes wide with a mixture of fear and hope. Slowly, Chris turned the knob and pulled the door open, revealing that it is indeed the hours keeper.
Joy sighed in relief and nodded at Chris. He then opened the door wider, allowing the housekeeper to step inside their room.
"I'm sorry about that," Chris said, his smile sincere but tinged with lingering tension. "We've just been a bit on edge lately, with everything that's been happening."
The housekeeper nodded understandingly, her eyes reflecting a calm reassurance. "It's quite alright, sir. I completely understand. If there's anything I can do to help ease your worries, please don't hesitate to let me know."
Chris appreciated her kindness and gestured towards a chair. "Thank you, Miss". The housekeeper nodded at Chris and began tidying up their hotel room.
After a while, she finished her work, leaving the room spotless. She then turned to Chris and Joy, offering a respectful nod before quietly exiting the room.
"I think we should get some sleep," Joy said, looking at Chris with a soft smile.
Chris nodded in agreement, feeling the day's tension finally beginning to ebb away. "You're right," he replied, his voice gentle.
They moved to their separate beds, the weariness evident in their movements. As they turned off the lights, the room was enveloped in darkness, a soothing contrast to the earlier anxiety.
"Goodnight, Chris," Joy whispered from across the room, her voice barely audible.
"Goodnight, Joy," Chris replied, his tone warm and reassuring. In the stillness, they each found a measure of comfort, knowing they weren't alone in their worries.
Slowly, they drifted into a much-needed sleep, the presence of the other offering a silent promise of safety and solidarity.
A few minutes later, Joy started to have a nightmare. She was crying in her sleep
In her nightmare, a silhouette of her mother stood in front of her, shielding her from a menacing shadow figure that manipulated cloth into deadly weapons.
The stench of corpses surrounded them, filling the air with a nauseating odor. Joy's tears flowed freely down her face, and an overwhelming fear paralyzed her legs and arms, rooting her to the spot as she watched in helpless horror.
Joy kept on crying in her nightmare, she was trembling. She couldn't wake up from the nightmare
Joy Screamed "Don't go.... MOM!"
The nightmare is so terrifying, Joy suddenly woke up. She was still trembling and she had tears in her eyes
Startled by Joy's scream, worried and confused Chris then quickly gets up and rush towards Joy to check on her
"Joy are you alright?... What's wrong?!"
Joy looked at Chris and hugged him "Chris.. It's all my fault, because of me m- ." She was still trembling. She then buried her face on Chris's chest
Worried and Concerned, Chris hugs Joy tightly with care and comfort
"Shh... Its ok, its just a nightmare" Chris in a calm and warm voice while caressing Joy's hair
Joy kept hugging Chris and she started to cry on his shoulder "I-i was scared... I missed my mother..."
Chris continue to hug Joy tightly, to comfort her
Joy kept crying on Chris's shoulder, she started to calm down a bit. She then looked up at him and wiped her tears away with her hands "T-thank you..." She said quietly.
Chris smiled at her and then he gently wiped away the remaining tears on Joy's cheeks "No problem, but are you okay now?"
Joy sniffled a bit and then she leaned on Chris's shoulder. She closed her eyes again "I just miss my mother... That's all..."
After a few minutes, Joy suddenly fell asleep again. She was still leaning on Chris's shoulder
After an hour, Chris noticed that Joy was still asleep. He then decided to lay down next to her and he also went back to sleep
The next morning, Chris slowly opened his eyes. He looked at Joy who was still asleep and he decided to wait for her to wake up
As Joy stirs from her slumber, the tranquility of the morning embracing her, she turns to Chris, her voice carrying a gentle warmth as she asks, "Chris, thank you about last night. I'm actually a little embarrassed about what you heard"
Chris smiled warmly at Joy and gently reassured her, "Please don't feel embarrassed. I, too, have nightmares that haunt me, ones we'd rather forget."
Joy's cheeks tinted with a delicate blush as she returned Chris's warm smile. "You're right, thank you again, Chris," she said softly, gratitude evident in her eyes.
Chris nodded in understanding, his gaze supportive.
With a slight pause, Joy continued, her voice tinged with anticipation, "As for your question about why I came to this city... Well..." She trailed off, a mysterious spark igniting in her eyes, leaving Chris hanging on the edge of his seat, eager to unravel the mystery behind her arrival.
To be continued...
