The Sage Rat

Chapter 77: The Threshold of the Subterranean Forest

The Sage Rat and the Encyclopedia Ball continued their journey, drawing closer to the fourth ancient land—the Subterranean Forest. Legend has it that this is a place where light cannot penetrate, yet life persists in an entirely different form.

They traversed arid valleys, where gentle breezes carried whispers of ancient tales. The path grew increasingly rugged, marked by strange stones etched with symbols unlike any language the Encyclopedia Ball had ever recorded.

The markings seemed to tell a story. Upon closer inspection, the Sage Rat realized they represented cycles of life—from birth and growth to decay and renewal. One particular symbol, intricately carved, appeared to depict an inverted tree—the emblem of the Subterranean Forest.

. . .

As they followed the trail, they encountered a series of trials. Massive boulders blocked the path, their mechanisms revealed only after solving ancient riddles. A stone gate opened as they completed the final puzzle, unveiling a passage leading underground.

"Are we ready?" the Sage Rat asked, a hint of tension in his voice.

Darkness enveloped them as they descended the steep incline. At last, a faint greenish light emerged, emanating from strange bioluminescent plants. They stepped into the Subterranean Forest, surrounded by the sound of flowing water, cries of unfamiliar creatures, and the damp scent of earth.

The Sage Rat crouched down, touching the glowing bark of a tree. "This is where we'll find answers" he murmured, his eyes glinting with both hope and caution.

A sound echoed from deep within the forest, a mix of invitation and warning. They exchanged glances, preparing for the perilous and wondrous journey ahead.
