...

Wen Cai immediately said confidently, "Your sister is in this line of business. I might not be an expert, but I can at least be half a teacher to you. Ask me anything you don't understand!"

"I obtained my Soul Servant within the district," Ning Fan asked directly. "Is this situation very strange?"

"Within the district?" Wen Cai stopped what she was doing, her expression becoming a bit more serious. "Are you sure?"

"Definitely, it was when I killed Yang Beihai," Ning Fan said earnestly. "Do you also think there's a problem?"

"Well, as for problems..." Wen Cai pinched her delicate chin. "Based on my experience, there are only two possibilities for your situation."

"First, you're incredibly lucky! Those scattered souls in the district resonated with your weapon and transformed into a Soul Servant, attaching to your weapon! Although the probability is very low, it's not impossible."

"And the second?" Ning Fan asked curiously.

"As for the second..." Wen Cai's gaze shifted to the sword lying on the sofa. "This sword of yours already had a Soul Servant inside it!"

Ning Fan's thoughts stirred.

When Wen Cai mentioned this second possibility, he was basically certain.

This sword was problematic!

When Ning Fan was young, his mother brought this sword home one day, saying it was a gift for him.

The sword looked dull and had no aesthetic appeal, but Ning Fan just loved it.

From childhood to adulthood, this sword had never left Ning Fan's side.

Originally, Ning Fan didn't think there was anything special about this sword; it merely represented a kind of sentiment.

Until...

He saw that "Blood Lineage Test Report"!

In his life so far, his mother had only given him two things.

One was the sword.

The other was the "Blood Lineage Test Report".

Although strictly speaking, this report wasn't given to him by his mother, it was obtained from her.

Seeing the contents of the report...

No Upper City bloodline.

This wasn't surprising.

But why...

Not even a Lower City bloodline?

Then what am I?

This question had been troubling Ning Fan.

The only one who could provide an answer...

Perhaps was only his mother.

Forget it.

If his mother hadn't told him, there must be a reason, and even if he wanted to ask, he would have to wait until he got the Elixir and woke his mother up first.

"What are you thinking about?"

Seeing Ning Fan lost in thought, Wen Cai waved her hand in front of his face.

"Ah? Nothing," Ning Fan smiled. "By the way, Sister Cai, you can extract Soul Servants from weapons and transfer them to strengthen other Soul Servants..."

"If you want to talk about this, we're entering the realm of business!" Wen Cai interrupted Ning Fan, putting on a businesslike manner. "Letting you stay at my place doesn't mean I'll provide you with free services!"

Ning Fan grinned sheepishly. "I was just asking. Besides, I wasn't planning to freeload!"

"Where did you learn such vulgar words?" Wen Cai glared at Ning Fan.

Ning Fan opened his mouth but closed it again.

This woman had made plenty of suggestive jokes before, but when it came to him...

Women, indeed!

They really don't make sense sometimes.

"The goods I had you deliver before were actually the Soul Extraction equipment I bought from Yang Beihai," Wen Cai continued. "I guess Yang Beihai hadn't really developed any new equipment at all. He was just trying to scam some money from me, so he played this trick."

Ning Fan's gaze changed slightly.

The whole process of the incident finally became clear.

Yang Beihai was a researcher, specifically responsible for developing new instruments.

Wen Cai was in the Soul Extraction business, so naturally, she had channels to get to know him.

He told Wen Cai that he had new Soul Extraction equipment, and of course, Wen Cai was interested.

But the problem was, Yang Beihai wanted to get something for nothing, and he was afraid Wen Cai would catch him and retaliate, so...

The best way was to find a scapegoat.

The Stray Dog Pack was that scapegoat.

"Oh right, I haven't melted down that knuckle duster and staff yet!" Wen Cai slapped her forehead. "If you want them, I can sell them to you."

The knuckle duster was Wang Ye's relic.

The staff was Old Duan's.

These two items held great significance for Ning Fan.

"Alright, thanks," Ning Fan said, then added, "Sister Cai, how much would it cost to extract the Soul Servants from these two weapons and fuse them into my Soul Servant?"

Wen Cai actually took out a calculator.

After tapping on it for a while, she handed it to Ning Fan.

"Twen-twenty-seven thousand?!" Ning Fan was shocked when he saw the number on the screen.

"I bought the two weapons for four thousand. The basic cost for starting up the equipment each time is three thousand! Soul Extraction is five thousand per time, and Soul Fusion is the same. Two weapons mean two extractions and fusions, that's twenty thousand.

"I'll give you a 20% discount, so it's sixteen thousand, plus..." Wen Cai tied up her hair, looking all business-like.

"I haven't paid you the ten thousand Solas for those weapons you sold me before! Just give me another seventeen thousand, and we're good."

Ning Fan smiled awkwardly. "I-I don't have that much money."

Wen Cai pouted in dissatisfaction. "If you don't have money, you should have said so earlier!"

"It's not that, Sister Cai. Don't you think your personality is... a bit split?" Ning Fan said with a wry smile. "I just asked casually, and you immediately turned into this business-minded persona. I couldn't stop you even if I wanted to!"

"Alright, I'll keep these two weapons for you. Whenever you have the money, I'll help you with it," Wen Cai said, losing interest.

"Okay, thanks in advance then."

Ning Fan stood up, picking up the sword.

"Where are you going?"

"I've rested enough. I'm going out for a walk, to figure out how to make some money."

Ning Fan smiled.

Over the course of the afternoon, Ning Fan gathered some information about the Marauder teams in the F27 District.

In the evening, Ning Fan returned to Wen Cai's home.

Seeing Ning Fan return, Wen Cai appeared somewhat displeased on the surface.

"What? You really treating my place like a hotel?"

Wen Cai, who had just finished showering, was wearing a loose set of pajamas, with large patches of white skin exposed to the air, causing Ning Fan's eyes to go a bit straight.

"Look again and pay up!"

Wen Cai glared at Ning Fan.

Ning Fan felt slightly embarrassed and averted his gaze.

But he still retorted defiantly, "Just wait until I make money! I'll definitely look my fill then!"

Wen Cai burst into laughter.

"Alright! How much money did you make out there today?"

"Not a single cent," Ning Fan grinned. "But I've got an idea now."

"Let's hear it?"

"Trade secret."

"Hmph! I don't even want to hear it!"

Wen Cai went straight to bed and covered herself with the blanket.

Ning Fan naturally lay down on the sofa, thinking about what he needed to do next.

Before he knew it, Ning Fan had entered dreamland.

But just as he fell asleep, a voice suddenly appeared in his mind.

"Ning Fan..."

"Who's there?"

"Ning Fan..."

"Who? Who's calling me?"

"Ning Fan... Can you see me..."

Ning Fan's eyes snapped open, and he found himself no longer on the sofa in Wen Cai's home.

Instead...

He was surrounded by a sea of white mist!

"Ning Fan..."

The calling voice sounded again.

Ning Fan finally saw a faint figure emerging from the mist.

A man, standing tall like a pine tree, was suspended in mid-air.

The man had long hair and handsome features, with a small bell hanging from his left ear.

"You..."

"Nice to meet you," the man's voice was gentle, giving people a relaxing feeling like a spring breeze.

"I am Serene Blade."

....
