Chapter 471: You Will Never Walk Alone, Warrior
[SICARIO]
"Hold on… there is no magic coming from Sicario. Not even a dome. Did they bring it down?" Alex asked as he tried to touch up the place with magic. He couldn't get any hint of the magic that had once been there; it was almost like there was nothing ever here.
"It probably was the only way for Rukiya and Mbali to make it out. That means we can go in brother. Our army is already nearing their gates," Seb said as he looked at the gates of Sicario, the same gates that were always fortified.
He wanted to be happy and say it would be easy to get into Sicario, but then it was never the magic that was the greatest barrier for anyone interested in getting into Sicario.
The warriors are the danger, the kind that made everyone wonder what the hell was in the Sicario food to get the theta loyal to Hawi.
"That makes it even easier for us then," Alex said excitedly like this was going to be a walk in the park. Well, he knew it wasn't going to be that easy, but maybe he was hoping that the days would be kinder to them now that they didn't have the greatest b arrears with them, right?
"Yeah. We have to wait for our warriors to come through," Sebastian added as he looked at his excited brother. War was never right, and it was sometimes the cruelest phase of life. But here and now this was a war that Seb knew they had to fight.
No one was coming to save them from the mess that had been created and if they didn't clean their house as they needed to, then they wouldn't have a reason to hold on anymore.
They would be left without a win, which was not something that any of them would ever want for themselves. It was insanity at best and no matter what they hoped to gain from this, they had to know that this was the deadliest of missions for them.
"Without Rukiya and Jabali Lihle, this place is as good as doomed. It won't be hard for us to kill them all and exact our vengeance on that woman who keeps making our lives way too difficult," Alex pointed out and Sebastian wanted to believe in that statement.
He wanted to say that all would be well. He wanted to wish on start and hope that this evening wouldn't be as cruel. Perhaps they had hoped that by coming this late into Sicario, they would have an added advantage.
But did they really?
Was it something that they had to deal with or was it the first of many things that they may have underestimated the Sicario pack of?
*****
While the two brothers were outside waiting for their army to meet them so they could invade Sicario, the alpha, and her team had gotten word from Greyson that there were intended attacks on Sicario and that they needed to act fast.
The watchers had seen the two brothers and had acted like they hadn't seen shit, so that they couldn't spook the two brothers who thought they had the element of surprise.
They were so confident in their doing and so relaxed, for brothers who were probably going to walk themselves into a trap. But perhaps it was each man's fate, right?
"How many?" Elodie asked as she looked at Theo who was giving her the information from the watchers she had been expecting this, but she hadn't expected that they could come soon.
For a moment there, the alpha wondered if releasing the dome was the dumbest thing they had ever done. But then again, the Sicario warriors had long defended Sicario without the aid of magic or anything else.
They had always used their moon-given talents to keep their pack the strongest in the realm. The fact that they had magical creatures among them was just an addition that they didn't have the time to work through at the moment.
What mattered was that the people of Sicario were okay and didn't have to worry about anything during the day. It was a huge risk, but one that they had to take nonetheless.
"For now, it's just the two of them. but they seem to be waiting for more people to join them," Theo said, the disappointment on his face so clear. He had alerted the warriors to be alert in case anyone stormed in.
The children and the civilians were currently gathering in the main hideout in the pack house. They knew the final battle in the war was ending.
Surely, they didn't know if this was the final battle, but they knew that this was one step closer to the final battle, so the civilians didn't even question anything when they were ordered into the hideout space.
They only wished their warriors luck and wide had for the war to end.
"Alright. That is manageable for now," Elodie said before turning to Drew and the sailors,
"You have to decide if you will fight or go with the civilians. We won't blame you for whatever choice you make. But be sure to make it fast, because time is not on our side. Stay tuned for updates on empire
"We need to make it seem like we didn't truly know they were out there and that they ambushed us. They need to think they have the upper hand so we can best them," Elodie said to Drew while looking at his sailors, the truth lingering on his face for the longest time.
He could see that the sailors were slowly realizing what was about to happen, he knew he had promised them all that they would die and there still was a chance for them to make sure that happened.
However, if they decided to join the war and lost their lives then they would only ever be remembered by history.
"I cannot decide for you guys. Whoever wants to step off the battlefield can go with the others. It won't be considered an act of cowardice. But if you stay on the upper side and they breach, we all know there is a chance that we will end up in the afterlife–
"–, given there isn't enough magic to keep Sicario sane. Again, this is not a decision I am going to be making for any of you," Drew insisted and they looked at him in understanding that had been expecting this.
By the laws of Sicario, the sailors were visitors and could choose to do whatever they wanted to do, as long as they didn't interfere with the peace in Sicario or commit any sort of crimes.
The visitor who committed crimes in Sicario never got to see the dungeons of Sicario because their laws demanded they be murdered on that same day and at that particular moment without asking any more questions after sentencing.
So, they had to have known that too, right?
"If we are to go out, then we might as well go out as warriors and not cowards. We shall join the battle," Rio said and Theo looked at his new mate, wondering if he felt safe with that decision.
Granted, they hadn't had the time to explore the mate bond they shared, but Theo was already feeling protective of Rio. He wanted to contest the decision and tell Rio that he would be the one on the battlefield and that Rio didn't need to.
But she knew his mare was a warrior. This was an unfortunate circumstance, but he could also tell that there was the kind to sit by and watch while everything went to shit. Sure, this wasn't the time for them to be romantic and all.
However, the pain that lingered in the air at Rio's acceptance was something that would haunt Theo forever if ever he failed to protect his mate in the war. But did the crazy sailor need someone to keep him in check or was he alright the way he was?
Besides there wasn't always going to be a time for them to get all mushy and shit with each other at battle, right?
"Are you certain about that? You know the rules of war, we can only tend to the injured when the battle is over. It might take a while especially if Sebastian and Alex are going to come with their army, which is probably the truth right now.
"This is a battle to the dead; one that will either make or break the bonds you have created with each other. Is that a risk that you are willing to take on?" Hudhayfah asked as he looked at Rio and then at Theo.
He could see the conflict lingering and his heart shattered for the two who had wanted so desperately to be there for each other but wouldn't be able to because of the war.
The battlefield was never an easy space for anyone and there they would be, two mates who had just realized they were mated and two souls that would probably never be able to see each other again.
It was a gamble, one that was so cruel but one whose dice had to be thrown in regardless. This was a test of their faith and they had to show up.
"Yes, we are. Cap told us this would be a possibility long before we even set sail for the shore. He warned us of the repercussions and of the chance that some of us wouldn't die at sea but on land and we all agreed to come along.
"Just give us the right tools and point us in the direction of the people you want gone. We will be your executioners if need be.
"And if it so happens that we fall at the opposition's execution table, then let it be known that we fail with honor and while fighting for the greatest wolf to ever live," Rio said confidently.
