The Reincarnator's Journey

Chapter 5: Escape

Chapter 5: Escape

As Levi turned toward the sound, his heart raced. A pair of glowing, emerald-green eyes stared back at him, gleaming in the dappled afternoon light that filtered through the thick canopy of trees. He tried to shift into a defensive stance, but his body was still weak, aching from the torment he had just endured.

Before he could react, more eyes appeared from the underbrush—dozens of them. They glimmered like jewels in the shadowy forest, surrounding him on all sides. There were at least fifty pairs now, all watching him with a predatory gleam. Levi’s pulse quickened as the oppressive silence of the forest pressed in around him, broken only by the faint rustle of leaves and the low, chilling growls echoing in the distance.

A massive shadow suddenly fell over him. Levi turned slowly, dread gripping his insides, and his eyes widened at the sight that met him.

A monstrous wolf-like beast stood before him, its fur coarse and matted, stained with dark patches of dried blood. It was easily twice the size of a regular wolf, its hulking frame rippling with raw muscle. Razor-sharp claws dug into the dirt beneath it, leaving deep gouges in the earth. Its massive jaws were open, revealing rows of jagged teeth, each one as long as Levi’s fingers. A deep growl rumbled from its throat, vibrating through the air.

The wolf’s eyes were wild, glowing a ferocious green as they locked onto Levi. Its snout was twisted in a snarl, saliva dripping from its fangs. Every part of the beast radiated aggression, its posture low and ready to pounce. It was as if the creature had been born for this moment—hungry, ruthless, and driven by instinct.

Levi’s body tensed as he forgot the lingering pain, forcing himself to stand on shaky legs. His heart pounded as the massive wolf in front of him raised its head and let out a deafening howl, its voice echoing through the dense forest. The sound seemed to summon the other creatures hidden in the bushes—they came rushing out one by one, snarling and snapping, their eyes locked onto him.

The beasts were terrifying, their jaws dripping with saliva, eyes gleaming with primal hunger. Levi quickly calculated the distance between them—800 meters at first, but they were closing in fast, their powerful legs kicking up dirt as they charged forward. He scanned the ground around him desperately. There was nothing. No weapons, no shield. Only a stone and a broken branch lay within reach.

He bent down, grabbing both. The stone felt heavy in his hand, but it was hardly a weapon. The branch wasn’t much better—just a crude piece of wood. But he had no choice.

When Levi raised his head again, the beasts were nearly upon him, their eyes locked onto him with a singular focus. 100 meters. Panic surged through his veins, but he forced himself to stay calm, analyzing the situation. He couldn’t fight them all—not like this. His eyes darted around, searching for an escape route.

The beasts had surrounded him—ten wolves to his right, ten to his left, ten behind, and twenty in front. A total of fifty ferocious predators, each one eager to sink its teeth into him. The pack leader, the enormous wolf, stood watching as if relishing the chase.

Levi knew he had to act fast. There had to be a weakness in their formation—somewhere he could break through. He couldn’t take them all head-on, but if he could find a flaw, an opening, he might have a chance.

His eyes darted to the wolves behind him. There were fewer of them in that direction, and they seemed to be spread out more, leaving small gaps between them. That was it—the weak point. If he could run fast enough, maybe he could slip through before they closed in completely.

With his makeshift weapons in hand.

Levi took a deep breath. He turned and hurled the rock toward one of the approaching wolves with all his strength. The rock sailed through the air and struck the beast squarely in the mouth, sending it crashing to the ground. Without wasting a second, Levi bolted forward, his legs pumping furiously. He grabbed another smaller rock from the ground as he ran, this one rougher but lighter.

With a quick, desperate motion, he hurled it at the wolf closing in from the right. The rock hit its mark, slamming into the wolf’s eye. The creature let out a ferocious growl, momentarily blinded by pain, thrashing wildly in the dirt.

Levi seized the moment. His heart pounded in his chest as he sprinted away from the pack, the wolves snarling behind him. They were thrown off by the sudden chaos, turning their bodies to face him again, but the delay gave him the seconds he needed. They had been charging full force in another direction, and the sudden pivot had slowed them down. Levi took the opportunity, pushing himself harder, escaping through the narrow gap between the trees, the sound of paws thundering behind him.

But then, a sharp, instinctive feeling washed over him. Something was wrong—deeply wrong. His instincts screamed louder than they had when he was surrounded by the wolves, an intense warning pulsing through every nerve. The ground beneath him trembled with a heavy thud.

Another thud.

The rumbling intensified with each step, sending a shiver up Levi's spine. He froze, his body unwilling to respond, and as his eyes darted upward, a massive shadow loomed overhead, stretching across the forest floor.

Thud! The ground shook again.

"I’m Fucked up!," he muttered under his breath, heart hammering in his chest. He could almost feel the hot breath of the monstrous beast behind him.

Panic surged through Levi as he tore his gaze from the looming shadow above him and bolted forward. He glanced back just in time to see a colossal figure emerge from the trees—The wolf that I saw in the begining is coming towards me.

The beast let out a deafening roar that echoed through the forest, sending birds scattering from the treetops. Levi’s heart raced as he sprinted deeper into the dense underbrush, branches clawing at his skin.

Each thundering step of the wolf resonated like a death knell behind him, urging him to run faster. The world blurred as fear took over, drowning out every rational thought. He had to survive, had to find a way to escape this place. But as he glanced back, the enormity of the creature made him question if he could outrun it. Despite the wolf merely walking, it was almost catching up to him.

Levi’s instincts screamed for him to keep moving, to not look back.
