The Reincarnated Queen and Three Love Crazed Brothers

Chapter 5: Mr. Damien Graves

Walking into the reception area of the Newday Newspaper Company, dressed in a brown plain pants, sky blue plain shirt, black kitten heels with her short hair dangling by the sides of her face, she frowned at the speedy way at which the three receptionist were on about arranging their desk.

Drying the sweat off her face, she walked towards them to offer her greeting with a smile but they merely shot her a look and hummed in reply.

"What is going on?" She looked back when one of her colleagues zoomed past her with a paper box in hand before rushing back into the elevator.

"Didn't you hear?" One of the receptionists asked with a slight frown.

"Hear what?" Carla felt a little pinch at the back of her head when the receptionist casted a strange look at her but she ignored it.

"The new owner of the company will officially make himself known today at the meeting we will have by 11 a.m at the conference hall." Another receptionist answered.

"Carla?" The voice she hated to hear at the moment called, interrupting her incoming thoughts.

Turning her head, she saw Madam Vennessa Carter, in a dark green knee length gown, glowering at her, her eyes shooting lasers from behind her glasses.

"Madam." She greeted and left the receptionist desk towards her Editor-in-chief who had her hands behind her back.

"What are you doing standing there and wasting time when you should be getting yourself prepared for the meeting in a few hours?" She asked and shifted when the head of the Administrative department walked past in a hurry.

"I am sorry Ma'am, I didn't know…"

"Blah blah blah." Carla was cut shut and kept her mouth shut in preparation to take every insult available.

"It's so typical of you Carla, your time in this company is really coming to an end and I will make sure of that." Vennesaa assured before walking away only to stop before the closed elevator.

"About your task, what's your progress?" She threw a side glance at Carla whose face twisted in confusion.

Turning to have a full look of Carla this time, Vennesaa's lips twisted in distaste. "You forgot – again." It wasn't a question, this time, it was a statement, an accusation that left Carla's heart trembling as she struggled to remember.

She watched her Editor-in-chief click her tongue at her before heading into the elevator. Without wasting much time, she ran past the reception area with a muttered thank you at them before running up the stairs and into her department.

She had less time to think as she was assigned one duty to the other till it was time to go into the conference hall.

Seated on one of the numerous plastic chairs, Carla felt uncomfortable with the sweat prickling her back and the growing pang in her head as she tried to remember what exactly had happened yesterday.

Closing her eyes in the bid to remember, she felt the murmur die down and opened her eyes to look at the number of executives and shareholders in black suits, both males and females marching into the hall and occupying the front seats in an order and aura that commanded respect.

Staring in awe, Carla felt like she had been struck with lightning, when the least person she expected to see walked in with a group of security guarding him.

'What is he doing here!?' Carla felt the panic rise up from her belly into her chest before occupying her throat.

Gripping the handle of her chair tightly, Carla felt she would collapse when their former President Mr. Roberts stood up to announce the arrival of their new President.

"... Mr. Damien Graves!" He had announced and everybody around Carla stood up to give a round of applause to welcome in their new President.

Carla felt like she was sinking into her chair and could not find herself standing with them to welcome in the monster that had hunted her dreams every night for the first few months of her pregnancy and made sure her sweet dreams became a nightmare.

She could not bring herself to applaud the man whom she had desperately ran away from, the fear that he might find out that she birthed his child crippled her and she sat still, her eyes only looking at the straight backs before her which blocked her vision from seeing the frosty face of Damien.

"What are you doing still sitting!?" It was Ellie, the managing editor and a colleague that had sworn to hate her as long as she remained in the Editorial department.

"Stand up!" She ordered.

Carla had wanted to glare at her and tell her to her face that it wasn't compulsory to stand but she caught Madam Vennesaa's cold glare and found herself jumping to her feet and clapping the loudest, the palm of her hands going numb from the pain.

When Damien had waved his hand at them and ordered them to sit, Carla sagged into her chair first. She had tried to ignore the mumbles beside her but they kept invading her ears.

"Oh my goshhhh! I can't believe I get to have the popular Damien Graves as my President!" One of her colleagues gushed behind her.

"I get to see him too! His blue eyes are soooo…" Another cooed.

"I would post it in my school group."

"I heard he wants to pick one of us from the Editorial department to…"

The last words piqued Carla's interest but the supposed colleagues did not get to finish her exciting whisper because the overdressed Ellie shot them a stern look to keep them quiet.

Their scoffs were not hidden and Carla almost hissed out loud at Ellie's interruption before staring ahead.

Damien was dressed in a black tuxedo and Carla wondered if he ever had interest in other colors being that it was only the blue of his eyes that made a difference from the black outfits he had always worn.

His eyes scanned the large hall with the microphone held loosely in his hands that Carla worried it would fall off.

She had her heart drumming in her ears and went totally still when his eyes caught hers not giving her the opportunity to throw her gaze to the other side.

When he smirked at her from his position, she felt she would faint and at that moment she thought of the possibility of submitting her resignation letter to her Editor-in-chief who would be ever willing to process it immediately.

"Did he just smirk at me?" An overjoyed colleague swooned.

Carla and Ellie stared at her at once, Carla in disbelief and Ellie in annoyance, it felt like Ellie wanted to swipe her hand across her colleague's stupid face.

Carla stared ahead as Damien started to talk but she felt her ears were resistant to his words as she thought of the possibility of hiding herself from him until she saw a lot of hands going up in the air in enthusiasm including that of Ellie.

"You in a blue shirt." Was the only thing she heard from Damien and she looked around for someone wearing a blue shirt.

"On shoulder length brown hair." He added.

"Green eyes?" He asked and she widened her eyes when she felt most people staring at her.

She looked at her shirt before snapping her head towards him, her eyes wide with anxiety and her heart thumping crazily and painfully against her ribcage.

"Come up." She felt like fainting when he ordered with a sly smirk on his lips.
