Chapter 161: Dragonlings
"Crimson Calamity..."
"Lord of the End of All Things..."
"Blood Demon..."
"If you truly embody the end of everything..."
"then please grant your humble servant the final peace and destruction."
"Along with this land of sin..."
This faint voice, David didn't know how many times it had appeared by his ear, irritating him immensely. And it always happened during his sweetest dreams.
Like this time—perhaps because he had transmigrated from a human into a Red Dragon—he had a very strange dream. In it, he was entwined in a tender embrace with five distinct female dragons: red, blue, green, black, and white. At times they were dragons, and at other times they transformed into humans. It was as thrilling as being with quints from "The Quintessential Quintuplets." As a result, his mind was incessantly filled with waves of Lust, Greed, Arrogance, and Sloth. The magnificent dream seemed capable of fulfilling all his vile desires. He just wanted to indulge in this absurd dream forever, even neglecting the insatiable hunger that led to Gluttony.
Then, five girls with identical faces stared at him with vacant eyes, saying, "Please grant your humble servant the final peace and destruction. Along with this land of sin..."
The sweet dream instantly turned into a horror movie, and David, unable to get a peaceful sleep, finally roared, "Damn it! So annoying! If you want destruction and peace, why don't you just restart yourself? SNORT!"
Wrath.
In that instant, the Wrathful David seemed to see, through a crystal-clear wall resembling a kaleidoscope, a sky-reaching torrent of blood and fire.
Awakened from his deep slumber, David was startled to find himself completely submerged in a pool of magma. He had unknowingly broken through his Dragon Nest, plunging into the geothermal layer below.
My treasure! This was David's belated first thought.
Only then did he remember that his treasure, along with his sister Tania's portion, had long been invested in their dragon father's new Anger Potion alchemy project. He breathed a sigh of relief.
Turns out I'm broke, so no worries.
Wait a minute!
He distinctly remembered seeing some treasure before falling into the nest. Although not much, it was still about a quarter of a young dragon's hoard. And why wasn't it a young dragon's amount of treasure? Probably because, like humans who struggle just to feed themselves before adulthood, saving money is out of the question. It was just like that time he'd painstakingly stolen a ship full of 'junk' from the High Elves. He offered it as treasure to his mother, Pafila, but she merely glanced at it. Then, without his knowledge, she passed it on to their Dragon God, Tiamat.
Forget it. David could guess that it was probably a gift from Nifadora.
He also finally understood why the Dragon Mother stored her treasure in the Audience Hall and not in his own nest where he slept. Red Dragons are just like that. Even without David's Gluttony, the terrain around them tends to transform into magma pools under the influence of their bloodline's Magic Power. Any treasure that fell into a magma pool would be instantly melted and become part of the magma in no time.
Having learned his lesson, he would have to find a separate, safe place for storing his own treasures in the future. Were it not for the ample magma in the lava river, he wouldn't know where his Gluttony might take him... He might even have dug through the crust and fallen into the Gloomy Region, if the Old Continent was also connected to it.
Upon further reflection, imagine if he had fallen into the hands of the Drow during his slumber. If they had fed him some bizarre potion, he might have woken up to find himself overrun with dragon children. That would truly be a horror show!
"Scared the life out of a dragon!" David, still frightened, immediately swam upwards along the magma river.
This was, after all, his first time soaking in a magma pool since his transmigration. It was a strange sensation, somewhat like burying oneself in sand, but the pressure from all directions was much greater, as if being murdered and stuffed directly into a concrete block. The difference was that one was cool and the other hot. It felt warm, like being in a sauna. And since magma is opaque, all he could see was pitch blackness; he could only feel the sensation of the liquid slowly flowing over his scales.
Even though he knew that Red Dragons could take baths in magma pools, David had always been too scared to try. It was like on Blue Star in his previous life: people knew they could breathe and survive in perfluorocarbons, yet not many dared to actually try it. This was the natural fear of suffocation that a creature feels toward unknown territories and the challenge to past common sense. Only after trying it oneself can the mental block be broken.
Groggily, he swam for an unknown duration, covering at least a good ten-plus kilometers. This definitely qualified as hard physical labor. So, he swam with intermittent pauses and rests. When hunger became unbearable, he would digest the magma in his stomach by churning his intestines. The taste was, to put it mildly, not delightful; it was pretty much like pouring freshly mixed cement down one's throat. Especially since the density underground was extremely high. His stomach had almost become one with the magma pool during his sleep; otherwise, he suspected his body might explode the moment he opened his mouth.
It wasn't until David was nearly cursing from frustration that he seemed to break through something, and a surging thrust rapidly pushed him upward.
BOOM!
With a loud bang, the newly risen 'David Uthos Volcano' in the Katjana Mountain Range erupted, spewing out the slumbering David along with its fiery contents.
At that moment, with his six limbs stretched out in the sky, David had quite the air of Monkey Sun breaking free from his seal under the Five Fingers Mountain as he howled to the heavens, "ROAR!!!"
The molten lava that had accumulated in his abdominal cavity was also blasted into the sky with his Dragon Breath, like another, smaller volcanic eruption. In an instant, the originally low cloud layer above the already greatly altered Dragon Nest camp evaporated, creating a gaping hole and letting a long-missed ray of sunlight fall upon the earth.
However, the unexpected emergence of a Red Dragon from the volcanic eruption still delivered an unprecedented shock to the 'indigenous residents' of the Dragon Nest camp. They scattered in all directions, scales flaring and tails tucked in fear. As they fled, they shouted, not quite coherently, "The Dragon Lord, our ultimate boss, has been shot out by the volcano! Everyone run! If we don't, we'll all turn into Dozy Dragons!!!"
Some of them had wings, some didn't. They were a colorful mix, some even having black and white blotches. There were Hatchlings, young dragons, and adolescent dragons; one even had a head almost as big as David's. The only thing was that none of them seemed too bright.
David had only slept for a while, and now his Dragon Nest camp was overrun with 'dragon children'. What on earth was going on?
Crap, my camp hasn't been occupied by these dragon beasts in my slumber, has it? A ludicrous thought suddenly popped into David's head.
Yes, among this bunch of dragon children, except for the three white ones, all were dragon beasts. Dragon beasts, especially those of Chromatic Dragons, should have been abandoned by their Dragon Mother right after birth. Even True Dragons have an astonishing attrition rate at this stage, let alone dragon beasts—creatures with no inherited knowledge, no Dragon Breath, and not much of a brain. So, in theory, it's very difficult to come across a dragon beast of considerable size unless they are extraordinarily talented or extremely lucky. Yet now, right before his very eyes, a group of them had appeared—no fewer than twenty or thirty.
David, his head clear after bursting from the mountain, knew at once what was going on; it was painfully obvious.
He immediately roared to the sky, "Whoever you are! Get back here!!!"
「Four hours later.」
PLONK.
David's subordinates, the 'Dragon Capture Group,' knelt down en masse. The Drow Mage in charge of this business division was shaking as he said, "Dragon Lord! I was wrong..."
David almost laughed out of exasperation and asked back, "Where did you go wrong?"
"I shouldn't have brought back a bunch of dragon beasts to fool you," the Drow Mage honestly replied.
Before David could continue questioning, the Drow Mage burst into tears, "But True Dragons are really hard to capture! Every one of them is smarter than me. It's as if they heard rumors that we were trying to capture them. Ever since you caught three True Dragons back then, the wild True Dragons around the Katjana Mountain Range have nearly gone extinct. We only have these relatively gullible dragon beasts left."
"The only real one I could get was an adult White Dragon, but after we raided her nest for the third time in the sixth year... she moved away."
"I truly had no other choice, Dragon Lord! WAH!!!"
Just then, Nifadora stepped forward, also looking apologetic, "This incident is partly my fault too. When they first brought back a White Dragon's clutch, it included three dragon beasts. It was I who encouraged their actions at the time, not expecting it to develop into this situation."
Hearing Nifadora, who rarely interceded, speak up for them, David took a deep breath. He had just calmed his nameless anger, but he suddenly choked and asked in confusion, "Wait! Did you just say the sixth year? How many years have I slept?"
Nifadora looked David up and down, replying with deep emotion, "It's been the seventh year now, Prince David Uthos. Your talent is truly profound; we can only look up to you from afar."
