Chapter 35: THE JOURNEY BEGINS
"You know you're such a kid, Alfie. You still can't read situations, and yet you claim to be observant," Rebekah said out of the blue.
"Repeat that again and I'll throw you off this horse, you honey badger!"
"What the hell is that, you moron? Me? A honey badger? Are you serious?" Rebekah snapped.
"I'm taller than you, and you're short. So yeah, you're a honey badger to me," Alfie replied smugly.
"I said stop it, both of you! All these childish attitudes need to be put in check," Lucy shouted sharply.
"We're sorry," Alfie and Rebekah muttered in unison.
"What about the icon? What does it really mean?" Rebekah asked, turning serious again.
"So you're still interested in hearing about it? I thought you were only interested in fighting with Alfie," Lucy said with a sigh.
Here she goes again, Rebekah thought. Sometimes she talks more than me or Alfie. I guess she doesn't see it from her point of view.
"The icon was made by the strongest mages in Shinra history. It was created to balance the lifestyle of all humans in the country. The icon erases any trace of high Renshi aura or pressure within the kingdom it's active in. Most kingdoms activated their icons years ago to maintain this balance.
"The reason I'm almost certain this kingdom recently turned their icon off is because when I first arrived, I sensed a strong Renshi aura deep inside the kingdom. But right after I killed the Alpha darkside spirit when we first met, that powerful aura vanished—without a trace. Not only that, I couldn't sense any Renshi from within the kingdom after that.
"And before you ask—the reason darkside spirits keep attacking Alfie is because they're not human. The icon only affects human perception. Darkside spirits can still sense Alfie's Renshi aura clearly, even when the icon is active.
"The strongest Shinras once formed an alliance—the Council. They maintain peace and power balance among kingdoms, and eliminate any town or territory that threatens others. Thanks to that, humans lived peacefully, traveling freely without fear. Darkside spirits became our only real enemy," Lucy explained in detail.
"This is really strange… why would the kingdom's leader turn off the icon to erase Alfie's Renshi aura? Doesn't that seem off, Master?" Rebekah asked.
"It doesn't sit right with me either," Lucy admitted. "But this only applies to this kingdom. Once we leave here, Shinras from other kingdoms will start sensing Alfie. We're close to the border now—I need to cast a spell to suppress Alfie's Renshi aura before we go any further."
"You can do that? Why didn't you do it earlier?" Alfie asked as Lucy slowed her horse.
"There was no need while we were still inside your kingdom. The icon was not active, remember? No one outside could detect your Renshi. But now that we're leaving… if I don't suppress it, it'll be a pain in the ass," Lucy said, jumping down from her horse.
Alfie and Rebekah followed, dismounting as well. They stood in the middle of the forest, surrounded by wild beasts of all kinds.
"You two, keep your mouths shut while we're here. We don't want to provoke the beasts. This is their territory, so stay quiet," Lucy warned in a whisper.
"Okay, Master," they both responded softly.
"Take off your shirt and sit on the ground," Lucy instructed Alfie.
He did as she said. Lucy reached into her storage ring and pulled out an ancient scroll—a Renshical ring that allowed unlimited item storage using Renshi and the art of Mojito. She unfurled the scroll and let it float midair.
She then placed her fingers on five symbols representing the five senses—vision, smell, taste, hearing, and touch.
"This scroll was created by the first generation of mages. It suppresses Renshi aura and pressure by disconnecting your five senses from your Renshi. In short, it seals your Renshi within you. Until the spell is lifted, you won't be able to use it," Lucy said.
She pressed her five fingers on Alfie's back, and the glowing spell circle from the scroll transferred onto his skin. It appeared like a bright tattoo—a sealing mark etched into his back.
"That should do it. If you were just an ordinary human, your Renshi would be completely hidden. But your Renshi aura is too strong—even this spell can't fully contain it. There'll still be some leakage. Still, this will help you train and travel without constant fear. Just be careful not to crack the seal. It won't break easily—but if you go berserk in battle, that might change," Lucy warned.
"Okay, Master. I promise I won't go into berserk mode," Alfie said firmly.
"The spell disappeared from the scroll, Master," Rebekah observed.
"That's how it works. It's a spell transplant. I transferred it from the scroll into Alfie's body," Lucy explained.
"That's amazing. Where did you even get something like that? Will the darkside spirits still keep coming after Alfie?" Rebekah asked curiously.
"There's no need to worry about the darkside spirits—"
And one more thing, powerful Shinras don't need don't need the icon to detect powerful Renshi aura,we move carefully wherever we go to,is that understood,Lucy said to both of them
They both replies with a nod."
