Chapter 82
Chapter 82: Reaping What One Sows
Xu Honghua, feeling triumphant that her scheme was about to succeed, suppressed the excitement in her heart and quickened her pace back to her room.
“Zhizhi-jie, have some water.” Xu Honghua placed a cup of water in Xu Zhizhi’s hand as she spoke.
No matter what, this was the first time Xu Honghua had done something like this, and she was extremely nervous.
Her palms were already sweating. She placed the other cup of water on the dressing table and discreetly wiped her hands on her skirt.
Who was Xu Zhizhi? Her hearing was now extraordinary—she had clearly heard everything Xu Honghua had said to Xu Erniu outside, as well as her conversation with Xie Jiaqi.
What was there that she couldn’t understand? But even in her wildest dreams, Xu Zhizhi had never expected Xu Honghua to be so reckless and self-destructive.
All along, Xu Zhizhi had tolerated her cousin’s little faults and minor schemes, as long as they didn’t cross her bottom line…
She had assumed that, after all the trouble Xu Honghua had gone through to trick her into coming here, it was just to ask her for a difficult favor.
But never did she expect that despite her young age, Xu Honghua could harbor such a vicious heart.
Since that was the case, Xu Zhizhi saw no reason to be polite.
With a mocking smile, Xu Zhizhi pointed at a pillow on the bed and asked, “Honghua-meimei, what is this embroidery? It looks beautiful.”
“Huh?” Xu Honghua instinctively looked toward the bed.
Seizing the moment, Xu Zhizhi swiftly switched the cups in her hand with the one on the table.
“It’s a lotus flower! That’s what my embroidery teacher told me,” Xu Honghua said evasively, her eyes flickering with guilt.
This time, she had no energy left to mock her “stupid” cousin. Her teacher was from the provincial capital—how could these countryside bumpkins have ever seen a real lotus flower?
“Hehe! I haven’t seen one before, so I didn’t recognize it!” Xu Zhizhi said apologetically, then tilted her head back and drank the entire cup of water.
“Honghua, you’ve been running around for a while. You must be thirsty too—why don’t you drink?”
Seeing that Xu Zhizhi had taken the bait, Xu Honghua also drank her cup of water.
“Why do I feel… so dizzy…” Xu Zhizhi’s eyes clouded over, and she quickly collapsed onto the bed.
“Zhizhi! You fool! Weren’t you always so arrogant? Now, you’ve been pretending to be gentle to win everyone’s favor, and you’ve even become more beautiful! Let’s see how you continue your act after today! Let’s see how you can still be so pretty!” Xu Honghua sneered viciously.
But in the very next second, her smile froze on her lips.
A wave of dizziness hit her, and before she could react, she collapsed onto the bed, unconscious.
Xu Zhizhi suddenly opened her eyes—clear and sharp, with no trace of the previous haze.
She sat up and looked down at Xu Honghua with a cold smirk. “Xu Honghua, you have no one to blame but yourself! This is what it means to reap what you sow!”
With that, she reached out and tore Xu Honghua’s clothes, exposing some of her fair skin. She wasn’t sure if ancient people matured early or if Xu Honghua had just been well-fed since childhood…
After finishing her work, Xu Zhizhi left the room. In the hall, she saw Xie Jiaqi pacing back and forth—it was obvious he had consumed a potent aphrodisiac.
“Honghua-meimei said she wanted to rest, so I’ll be leaving now,” Xu Zhizhi said before swiftly walking away.
The real show was about to begin.
Xie Jiaqi, feeling dazed and overheated, recalled that his cousin had told him to go to her room once Xu Zhizhi had left.
“Meimei, I’m here. What did you need me for?” He hurriedly rushed into the room.
Upon seeing Xu Honghua’s exposed fair skin, his face flushed deep red. A fire of lust ignited in his lower abdomen, and his mind grew even hazier.
His body burned with an unbearable heat—he couldn’t think about anything else. Seeing his beautiful cousin in front of him, he lunged forward.
With a growl, he tore at her clothes…
Xu Zhizhi had only walked a short distance before stopping. Just as she was about to eavesdrop, she saw Xu Erniu leading Father Xu, Second Uncle, Second Aunt, Third Uncle, Third Aunt, and her younger cousins toward the house in a grand procession.
“Zhizhi! What was so urgent that you needed all of us here?” Father Xu, who was walking in front, asked the moment he saw her.
He had just finished dinner and had wanted to study the blueprints some more!
“I never called you all over! I didn’t say anything!” Xu Zhizhi responded in surprise.
Third Aunt chimed in, “Erniu told us we all had to come.”
“I never asked you to come! Honghua-meimei pulled me back home, saying she wanted to show me her lotus flower embroidery. I saw it and left. When I left, Erniu was still with Xie Jiaqi!”
“It was my second sister who told me to call everyone. She said everyone had to come,” Xu Erniu said, feeling wronged.
He had found it odd too, but his sister had ordered him so fiercely…
Since they were already at the doorstep, Third Uncle said, “Since Honghua insisted, let’s all go in together.”
Xu Zhizhi stepped aside to let them go ahead. When she spotted Xiao Jingheng at the back, she asked, “Why are you here too?”
Xiao Jingheng gave his little wife a once-over, finally feeling reassured.
God knew how terrified he had been when he heard that the entire family was going to Third Uncle’s house and that Xu Zhizhi was nowhere to be found. After asking around, he learned that she had left with that seemingly naive but actually venomous woman. His heart had nearly stopped.
Xiao Jingheng had been exposed to these kinds of schemes since he was twelve years old. His little wife was smart, but she was also so kind—what if she had fallen into a trap?
Now that she was standing there safe and sound, he could finally relax. He held her hand tightly.
Everyone entered the main hall, and then—
Second Aunt immediately understood what was happening. She had always disliked how Xu Honghua never did any work and bullied her children. With a few quick strides, she pushed open the door.
“What? It’s Xie Jiaqi and Honghua?! These two kids—this is outrageous! If you like Honghua, you should bring your parents over with a betrothal gift!”
Everyone in the main hall was utterly dumbfounded by what they heard.
Xie Jiaqi, still in a daze, felt a surge of blood rush to his head. The shock completely sobered him up.
He lay frozen in place, not daring to move.
But Second Aunt’s next words were like a slap to his face.
“Oh my, you two still won’t separate? What a scandal!” Second Aunt deliberately shouted.
Third Aunt stepped forward and, upon seeing the two of them completely undressed, was so overwhelmed that she fainted on the spot.
Third Uncle quickly caught her, while Xu Lanhua rushed to fetch hot water for her mother. The entire room was thrown into chaos.
At this moment, no one had time to care about the two people inside.
Xu Honghua, still groggy, slowly regained consciousness—but she had yet to realize what had happened…
