The Prime Minister’s Little Wife

Chapter 62

Chapter 62: A Brawl

Seeing that Xu Honghua was about to be at a disadvantage, Wang Erya called her two cousins to help break up the fight. While pulling them apart, she took the opportunity to hit Li Xiaomao hard.

Soon, Li Xiaomao was overpowered. What was supposed to be a simple intervention turned into a full-blown brawl, with several local girls ganging up on an outsider.

“I’ll beat you to death, you shameless brat! Where did this wild girl come from, daring to act so arrogantly in our house? Look at your shabby self, still dreaming about our Brother Daniu?”

Xu Honghua’s hair had been pulled out in clumps, and she had been punched several times. The pain fueled her rage, and she began to curse loudly.

The scene quickly descended into chaos, with everyone shouting and fighting.

At that moment, a furious voice rang out at the entrance.

“What are you all doing?” Mother Xu, who had been feeling wronged for the past two days, finally found an outlet for her pent-up frustration.

“Auntie, come help me! These shameless brats are trying to kill me!” Li Xiaomao cried.

Even a strong person couldn’t fight off three opponents. Soon, Li Xiaomao was bruised and battered.

Seeing her aunt arrive was like seeing a savior.

Xu Honghua seized the initiative: “Auntie, this wild girl from who-knows-where pushed Erya to the ground as soon as she arrived. I tried to reason with her, but she grabbed my hair. Look, she pulled out a whole chunk! Wuwuwu…”

Mother Xu, who usually didn’t dare to offend Third Uncle’s pampered daughter or her own niece from her maternal family, stood frozen after her initial outburst.

Xu Honghua pretended to cry while secretly observing her aunt. Just as she had expected, her aunt was still as timid as ever!

“Wuwuwu… I don’t want to live anymore! This wild girl is trying to kill me!”

Li Xiaomao was dumbfounded. She was the one who had been beaten and was in pain all over, yet her aunt wasn’t helping her?

She rolled on the ground, already having been knocked down.

“Ouch, it hurts so much! Auntie, now that your family has money, you don’t want your poor relatives anymore. I can’t go back; my whole body hurts so much.”

Li Ermao looked at her foolish cousin, whose face was swollen and bruised, tears and snot streaming down her face. She was truly frightened.

She was the one who had brought her cousin here, and she hadn’t even seen the noble young man yet. What should she do now?

The courtyard was in complete chaos, with everyone wailing and shouting. It was impossible for the workers not to hear the commotion.

Third Aunt Xu was handing tiles at the backyard when Xu Erniu ran over and shouted, “Mom, it’s terrible! My sister is being beaten to death…”

Xu Daniu returned to the old house and saw that the doghouse he had slept in last night (which had been turned into a mess by his maternal cousins) had been tidied up by his sister. It looked much more comfortable now.

He looked around but didn’t see his sister. Just as he was about to leave, he saw his brother-in-law and a stunningly beautiful woman holding his younger brother’s hand, walking in from outside.

The woman had her jet-black hair tied with a light purple ribbon, with a few strands playfully falling over her shoulders, accentuating her flawless, fair skin. Her face was free of makeup, yet she looked fresh and captivating.

“Who are you holding? Where’s my sister?” the young man asked angrily.

“Pfft—”

“Ha ha ha…”

Xu Zhizhi and Xiao Wu burst out laughing at the same time.

“What’s wrong? Did something happen? You don’t even recognize your own sister?”

“Brother, what’s wrong?”

Xu Zhizhi and Xiao Wu asked with concern.

Xu Daniu’s face turned red as he said, “I’ve never seen my sister like this before. She looks like a fairy.”

Xiao Jingheng smiled, the corners of his lips curving into a gentle arc. His obsidian-like eyes softened as he looked at her, as if gazing at a lotus that had bloomed after a thousand years of care. Even the sunlight around them seemed to grow gentler.

Xu Daniu was mesmerized. The handsome man and the beautiful woman were truly a match made in heaven.

“Why are you here now? It’s not mealtime yet,” Xu Zhizhi asked her brother.

Xu Daniu, with a bitter expression, followed his sister into the main room. Once seated, he began to recount what had just happened.

Xu Zhizhi: “…”

Xiao Wu widened his eyes, looking at his brother-in-law, then at his sister and brother, clearly not understanding what was going on.

Xiao Jingheng looked at Xu Zhizhi, his eyes telling her: Your brother is just as much of a magnet for attention!

Xu Zhizhi wondered what era she had actually traveled to. No wonder she couldn’t find any record of the Great Sheng Dynasty in her memories of history!

Were the girls here really so unrestrained?

But after living here for over two months, she felt that it was just like the ancient times she had seen on TV.

Even in modern times, girls didn’t openly fight over men like this!

Who said modern girls were open-minded? Compared to the girls here, modern girls were downright reserved.

In reality, the well-bred young ladies of the Great Sheng Dynasty weren’t so brazen. If they wanted to compete for a man, they would do so subtly, with grace and decorum.

But in this remote, impoverished village, the ignorant girls, desperate to improve their lives, had become like this.

Xu Zhizhi couldn’t help but think of the original host, who had once beaten up all the girls in Qili Village. In the end, no one in Qili Village or the neighboring villages dared to covet Jin Zijun…

Later, it was Wang Shishi, who came from the city, who had ultimately defeated the original host!

Xu Zhizhi had been planning to settle the score with Wang Shishi, but now she had no idea where the woman had disappeared to!

So, people really needed to be educated! Relying on brute force might work in this backwater, but in the big cities, they would be instantly crushed…

Being poor wasn’t a crime, but even heroes could feel lonely!

“Don’t go back for now. Since it’s turned into a brawl, let Mom handle it.”

Xu Zhizhi thought that her so-called mother wouldn’t dare to casually agree to her son’s marriage this time.

Their family was now considered wealthy, the “richest” in Qili Village.

If her mother didn’t stand up for herself, her children would eventually drift away. What would she do then?

“Xiao Wu, take Xiao Jingheng to the pond and catch two big fish. I’ll make sour fish for you.”

Xu Zhizhi remembered that the pickled vegetables she had made earlier were ready to eat.

“I’ll go!” Xu Daniu said, heading off to catch fish.

“Then don’t go to the courtyard. You might get dragged into the fight,” Xu Zhizhi warned.

Xiao Wu’s eyes darted around. He wanted to go see the commotion.

Xu Zhizhi was amused by the little guy’s mischievous expression. “Go over there and tell Sister Chunhua that we haven’t finished cleaning up here. We’ll just make something simple to eat, so don’t save any lunch for us.”

As soon as Xiao Wu got his sister’s permission, he slipped away like an eel.

Xu Zhizhi shook her head and laughed.

She decided to try making fish balls first and went to the kitchen to prepare. Xiao Jingheng didn’t know how to do anything, but that didn’t stop him from following her around and watching.

Xu Zhizhi took out two sweet potatoes and a piece of ginger, washing them in a basin. The ginger was to remove the fishy smell, and the sweet potato starch would improve the texture of the fish balls. Since there was no starch here, she used sweet potatoes as a substitute.

She finely chopped the ginger and sweet potatoes and set them aside in a bowl.

Then she took out a few eggs from the cabinet, separating the yolks from the whites. The egg whites would make the fish meat more tender.

She also took out flour, sugar, and salt. After preparing everything, she looked toward the door to see if Xu Daniu had returned with the fish.
