The Prime Minister’s Little Wife

Chapter 40

Chapter 40: The Black-Hearted Beauty

Nangong Yunhao led Wang Shishi to the table, his hand still lingering on her slender waist, giving it a few playful squeezes.

They sat down together to eat.

Qingzi, who had been standing in the background like wallpaper, finally had a role to play. She quickly stepped forward to serve her mistress rice and dishes. Normally, after setting the table, she would sit down and eat as well, but today, with the future master present, she could only stand behind them, swallowing her saliva.

Wang Shishi and Nangong Yunhao chatted as they ate, completely forgetting about the maid.

Nangong Yunhao, having already eaten his fill earlier, couldn’t eat much now. Instead, he focused on serving Wang Shishi, appearing exceptionally gentle and considerate. One hand kept wandering up and down her waist…

Since they were sitting close together, and Qingzi was standing behind Wang Shishi, Nangong Yunhao could hear the maid’s stomach growling loudly.

He deliberately said, “Shishi, this beef is so tender and smooth. It’s delicious. Have more.”

Qingzi was starving, but her mistress seemed to have forgotten about her…

Under Nangong Yunhao’s tender care, Wang Shishi unknowingly finished almost the entire plate of boiled beef, leaving only a bit of soup.

She was so full she felt uncomfortable, while Qingzi was starving.

Wang Shishi hadn’t noticed that her maid hadn’t eaten yet. Seeing the leftovers on the table, she blushed.

Nangong Yunhao had done this on purpose. It seemed that while this beauty was stunning, her heart was black. Her maid’s stomach was growling so loudly, yet she paid no attention.

Even though he knew she was a black-hearted beauty, he couldn’t resist her allure.

Looking at this extraordinary beauty, secluded in this remote valley, his hands grew even more daring…

Nangong Yunhao was actually mistaken about Wang Shishi this time. She genuinely hadn’t heard.

She was too busy enjoying her meal and the flirtatious attention from Nangong Yunhao.

What woman could be won over so easily on the first meeting? Only a fool or someone utterly naive.

But Wang Shishi was neither foolish nor naive. She had simply been stuck in this remote place for too long, never encountering a truly outstanding man.

The slightly better-looking ones, though attracted to her beauty, all expected her to spend money on them.

She was desperate. There was no other way.

Although she was a concubine’s daughter, she had grown up in luxury, never having to lift a finger. She had no idea how to earn money.

She had come here with plenty of money, as her mother had said:

[Even if you go to the countryside, you’ll never have to worry about food or clothing for the rest of your life.]

But in less than a year, she was already pawning her jewelry…

Now, having finally met a man with both looks and status, she wanted to play hard to get and act aloof.

But she was afraid that if she missed this chance, she might never find another.

The two of them, though with different thoughts, shared the same goal. Before long, they were hugging and kissing…

Poor Qingzi, the background character, was not only starving but also had to endure the sounds of Wang Shishi’s moans as she was kissed, tormenting her young soul.

……………

Xu Zhizhi made a duck noodle soup, stir-fried chicken feet mushrooms with meat slices, a cucumber salad, and scrambled eggs with green peppers.

Sun Hao, who had taken the two children out, returned just in time, rushing in like a gust of wind at the smell of food.

“Sister Zhizhi, what did you cook? It smells amazing,” Sun Hao asked, sounding just like Xiaohua.

“Sister Zhizhi’s cooking is always delicious,” Xiaohua chimed in as she entered.

Xu Xiaowu hugged his sister’s leg. “Sis, I’m so hungry just from the smell.”

Xu Zhizhi patted his head. “Did you have fun? Go wash your hands and eat.”

The two children had a great time today. Sun Hao, having been in Qingshan Town for years, knew all the fun and interesting places to visit.

Everyone washed their hands and sat down to eat.

Xiao Jingheng wasn’t in high spirits. He had been wondering why the girl had refused his proposal.

For the first time in his nineteen years, he had proposed marriage. Though it wasn’t the best timing, he had been completely serious when he said it.

His gloomy mood inexplicably lifted after he took a few bites of the food. As everyone happily fought over the dishes, he felt at peace.

All the dishes and rice were wiped clean.

Old Physician Shangguan went to prepare medicine after the meal.

Sun Hao went to wash the dishes, and the two children, now familiar with him, followed to help.

Everyone was stuffed, including Xiao Jingheng.

He found the food the girl made exceptionally delicious.

Though he had tasted delicacies from all over, he still felt her cooking was better.

He studied her carefully. Her big eyes, double eyelids, dark and bright, sparkled with life.

He wanted to say something but pursed his lips and remained silent.

He found it strange. This was only their second meeting, yet he felt no sense of unfamiliarity with her.

Was it because she had saved him? But he knew that wasn’t it.

Some people just had the power to make your heart skip a beat with a single glance.

He had never paid much attention to women before.

The reason his fiancée had broken off the engagement was because she couldn’t get a response from him and had grown tired of being neglected.

Add to that his elder brother’s efforts to humiliate him by pursuing her…

During his half-month of recuperation here, the most he had heard from the master and disciple was their discussions about “Zhizhi” (the ugly village girl).

As a result, he had spent his days thinking about her too.

So when he saw her, he naturally called her “Zhizhi” without any hesitation.

Xu Zhizhi, unaware of his inner thoughts, asked, “I’m going to Drunken Fragrance Pavilion to discuss the braised meat with Nangong Yunhao. Should I ask him if the person he’s looking for is you?”

Xiao Jingheng thought for a moment. He had once been handsome and dignified, but now he was hideously ugly and crippled. How could he let his cousin see him in such a state?

The reason his cousin couldn’t find him was surely because he would never imagine that the beggar lying on the ground for days was him.

His cousin would never expect that the once handsome and perfect young man would resort to begging…

He didn’t want to see his cousin, so he looked at Xu Zhizhi and said, “I’ve lost my memory. Even if I met my family, I wouldn’t recognize them. Why add to the trouble? I’ll go home once I’m better.”

Xu Zhizhi, listening to his deep, magnetic voice, felt the urge to rub her ears. She was a sucker for beautiful voices and had no resistance to them.

This was the best voice she had ever heard, perfectly suited to her taste. If she could listen to it for a lifetime as his wife, it wouldn’t be so bad.

She regretted her earlier refusal.

So she said to him, “Then rest and recover here in peace. I’ve paid enough for your treatment. Don’t feel any pressure. You can repay me once you’re fully healed.”

Xiao Jingheng suddenly had a thought:

[If I can’t repay her, then I can stay by her side forever.]

With this thought, his mood lifted.

He said, “Alright, I’ll definitely repay you.”

“I believe you have the ability to repay me, but when I saved you, it was out of humanitarian spirit. I didn’t expect anything in return,” Xu Zhizhi said sincerely.

Xiao Jingheng, listening to her sweet voice and sincere words, felt a strange stirring in his heart.

“You go ahead with your work,” Xiao Jingheng said.

“Then I’ll take my leave. Rest well, and I’ll come visit when I have time.”
