The Poleman

Chapter 7: The Wolf

Sine collected his thoughts. He knew he was in the Wrath region of the world, but not specifically where in the wrath region. This land was not like the Pride region where the forest would awaken during the day and kill everything... no.

Sine jumped, trying to spot it. And he did, he found exactly what he was looking for. A warp in space that looked like light bent towards it, and a black aura that disappeared into the skies. The closer you get to the entity... the more it seems like you're in space.

That is the Sin of Wrath.

And it was heading towards them. But Sine wasn't worried. The Sin of Wrath was never known to target anything except for someone that seemed a threat to it. Unless you got too close. Like, armlength close. You're safe a few meters away. Though you will feel as if your soul is getting pulled out of you.

"Okay... I've identified Wrath." Sine said with a sigh of relief. "Now, we figure out where to go from here."

Sine looked over at Ariet to see him still entranced in the celestial battle still happening in the sky. A river of blood was flowing out of the ever-changing ruby and obsidian mountain, and the jellyfish sustained quite a bit of damage as well. A storm of thunder now surrounded the battle and thousands of cracked obsidian and molten lava arms formed.

Unfortunately, the two didn't get to witness the battle any longer. For a wolf the size of a tree stood, watching them from the dark shadows of the trees. It's black fur hung low and tantalizing crimson maw breathing heavily, drool dripping from its mouth.

That wasn't the scariest part however. Not it's hand-long claws, nor its leg sized teeth. No.

It's eyes... its eyes were so human-like...

'W-W-What-'

This freaked Sine out, and before he could get a word out, the wolf disappeared and reappeared behind Ariet.

"Behind you!" Sine screamed in desperation.

An engine roared and screamed in terror, all of his flames concentrated on one spot, and exploded in a column of fire. Ariet expected to hear the deathly cry of a dying pup, a gargle, a snort, a cackle even.

It continued to breathe. It stood there, and when his flames died, not a hair on its body was singed. It's eyes taunted the two boys as it stared straight through them.

"rrrRRRAHHHH!!!" Sine exploded in a frenzy of movement, his Pole slamming into the snout of the wolf.

It stared.

It watched.

It laughed.

Sine... he couldn't believe it. His eyes filled with absolute terror, he knew. He knew he was going to die and he couldn't do a thing about it. His heart started to beat fast, his mouth became dry and his breath became shallow and quick.

Sine didn't know what to do. The wolf took a step towards him, and it felt like his whole world was falling apart.

However, he's been in a similar situation before.

When he faced that tentacle-boy thing.

Sine's veins popped and his jaw clenched, every muscle screamed a fiery rage and his eyes became sharp. His ears silenced everything around him except for the wolf. Even Ariet screaming as his fiery azure halo burned and rotated, he didn't care.

The wolf took another step, and Sine let go of The Pole.

Or at least... he thought he did. It became light as air as Sine struck the wolf, using the lightning maneuverability from that lady he fought previously.

It had no effect.

He struck again. And struck true.

No effect.

His Cadence had started. He would slam his Pole into the wolf, and it would bounce off and slam into it again. This took insane concentration and timing, yet if he didn't pull this off, he didn't know what he could do.

Ariet's eyes flashed at his own helplessness.

"I can't do a fucking thing RIGHT!!" His teeth chattered in anger, and he brought his sword up to his mouth. Starting at the base, he bit his sword and slid his teeth across the length of the blade, creating a massive blue spark.

Thus, as a flurry of attacks hit the wolf, Ariet had awoken a new skill.

Blade ignition.

Aqua flames flowed like water from his sword, like a river that flowed back in on itself. Sine had started to push the wolf back, and it started to attack and defend itself. Sine's nose bled and gashes were formed on his body, but his attention was laser-focused. Adrenaline pumped through his body, normally, the adrenaline would find a way to burn the energy through, say shaking your leg.

But Sine was using everything.

Ariet dashed to the left of Sine and under the wolf where he turned over and threw his blade in a pivot, leaving a massive gash on the wolf's stomach. It yelped and jumped back, nipping at Ariet while doing so.

But Sine had learned and adapted more through this fight, and figured out a way to fight against much stronger opponents. And that is to dominate them. Of course, the wolf is stronger and faster, but Sine is way, way more flexible. Sine dashed forward, as the wolf stretched its paw out in a wide-stance, it swiped at swine who was missed by half-an-inch, and immediately retaliated by hitting the wolf in the jaw.

The wolf changed tactics and opened its maw wide, and slowly charged at Sine, that way, no matter how he dodged, the wolf could follow him.

Bad mistake however, because Sine started pelting him in the nose and jumping back as the wolf nipped at him. The wolf noticed the fire-mans presence was gone and he looked around, but couldn't find him.

A sharp pain stabbed the wolf in the spine, and it started to burn. It seared, it burned IT BURNED IT BURNED IT BURNED.

The wolf screamed and flipped over immediately, slamming Ariet into the dirt, and its heavy body almost falling on him if it wasn't for Sine and his Pole. Immediately after the wolf flipped itself, Sine started to form a figure-eight with The Pole and dashed forward.

Before the wolf could hit the ground, Sine had started to balance him in the air with a series of strikes, with pin-point accuracy, hitting each spot he hit before.

Cracks and pops explode in the air, the wolf wails and struggles, it flips around finally and swipes at The Pole. Sine parries the attack, albeit barely, and hits the wolf in the ribs once again, and this time, almost like thunder, a loud crash resounded within the wolf, and it cried out.

It fell to the dirt with a thud, its tongue hanging out and its eyes staring at Sine, pleading for mercy as its chest heaved, trying to breathe.

"How did we- manage too- take down- such a strong- abomination?" Sine panted, looking at Ariet for the answer.

Ariet was breathing heavily? He didn't even do much though...

As if reading his mind, he answered, "That... blade ignition... really takesa toll on me." He sighed and rolled over. "It was cocky." And he knew that because he was speaking from experience.

I mean, what can he say? He was born in the Pride lands.

"Hey come kill this thing, I don't wanna just beat it to death." Sine glumly stared at the wolf who pleaded and begged him not to kill him.

Sine groaned and hopped up, picking up his sword and marching over. He raised his sword above the wolf's triceps, and stabbed it right in the heart.

A massive crash of energy filled his soul, and it felt like he had achieved a new level of power.

"Hey why aren't you transforming!?" Ariet asked.

"Okay, seriously, I have no idea what you're talking about when you say transformation." Sine sighed. "I just got this weapon like, I don't know, a day and a half? Two days?"

Ariet's jaw dropped and he stared at Sine in disbelief. "What do you mean you got it two days ago?!"

"I'm telling you I just got my Aether Engine two days ago." Sine remarked, clearly stating what he just said. "Let's move while we talk."

"So you don't know what a transformation is?" Ariet asked.

"No... is your transformation that halo thingy...?" Sine questioned.

"Yeah.. it's called--"

"Woah--"
