Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Koushirou's Resolve
The next day, the front page of the World News Flash blared:
[19-YEAR-OLD MARINE ROOKIE FACES OFF AGAINST "RED-HAIRED" SHANKS! BATTLE ENDS IN A DRAW!]
Subtitle: Marine Rear Admiral Roy, only 19 years old, clashes with the New World monster, the Red-Haired Pirates! The entire island was nearly destroyed by Conqueror's Haki!
The world was in an uproar.
In a bar in the New World—
Pirates crowded around the bar, passing around the newspaper. The accompanying photo showed the devastated island and the red and black lightning of Conqueror's Haki as Roy and Shanks clashed.
"Is this for real?! Shanks was actually stopped by a new Marine?!"
"I hear half that island collapsed!"
"Are the Marines crazy?! Are they trying to make a second 'Garp'?!"
"He's 19... that Roy is only 19!!!"
The atmosphere instantly exploded.
Marine Headquarters, Sengoku's Office—
The battle footage from the East Blue flickered on the Transponder Snail's projection. Roy's teleporting afterimages flashed around Shanks like meteors streaking across the night sky; his Conqueror's Haki-infused fists clashed violently with the famous sword "Gryphon," sending sparks flying; the entire island collapsed under the collision of their Conqueror's Haki, like a final judgment.
Sakazuki (Akainu) puffed on his cigar, smoke and fire mingling. "If you're going to fight, you should have annihilated them completely. But... he did show the might of the Marines."
Borsalino (Kizaru) sat with his legs crossed, a lazy smile on his face. "These young people nowadays are so scary He just graduated, and he's already picking a fight with a pirate with a bounty of nearly a billion"
Kuzan (Aokiji) had his eyes slightly narrowed, lazily resting his head on his arms. "Holding back was the right move... If Red-Hair had gone all out with his entire crew, it would have been a huge mess."
Sengoku sat in the main seat, unusually not angry. "That kid Roy, what exactly is he trying to do..."
"Smack!" Garp suddenly slammed his fist on the table, trembling with excitement. "Hahaha! This kid's 'Fist Bone: Meteor' is even more ruthless than the islands I used to smash!"
Zephyr pushed up his sunglasses and sneered. "Heh, Garp, besides teaching him useless things like 'eat rice crackers with tea,' what else have you taught him?"
Garp snorted. "Nonsense! Roy's 'Fist Bone: Meteor' was personally taught by me! Your rigid Six Powers training almost ruined him!"
Hearing this, Zephyr immediately slammed the table. "Nonsense! His Armament Haki hardening technique was specially trained by me!"
Garp grinned widely. "Oh? What about his Conqueror's Haki? Can you teach that?"
A vein popped on Zephyr's forehead. "...Isn't that because you old bastard took him to the New World to fight all the time?!"
The two of them got closer and closer as they argued, their faces almost touching.
Garp suddenly reached out. "Since you're not convinced, let's settle this like men!"
Zephyr sneered. "That's just what I was thinking!"
The next second—
"Plop!"
Garp's index finger shot into Zephyr's nostril. Not to be outdone, Zephyr countered by sticking his finger into Garp's nostril. The two of them were thus "nose-locked," glaring at each other angrily.
Sakazuki covered his forehead, his cigar falling to the ground. "..."
Borsalino: "Ooh Kowai ne Is this the legendary 'Marine Legend'~"
Kuzan just lay back on the sofa. "Ah... I'll take a nap. Wake me up when it's over..."
The veins on Sengoku's forehead were bulging, his fists cracking. "You two... give me a break...!!!"
Just as Sengoku was about to explode—
"Swish!"
Vice Admiral Tsuru calmly walked over, grabbed the back of their collars, one in each hand. "If you want to fight, fight outside. Don't dirty the office."
Zephyr struggled slightly. "Tsuru! Let go of me! I have to teach this old bastard a lesson today!"
Garp was still picking Zephyr's nose. "Hahaha! Old man, your nose is quite elastic!"
Sengoku finally exploded in a roar. "YOU TWO!!!"
Ultimately, amidst Sengoku's roar, the three Vice Admirals' speechless expressions, and Tsuru's helpless sigh, this farce came to an end...
East Blue, Windmill Village
Shanks pressed on the web of his hand, which had been cracked by Armament Haki, and looked in the direction Roy had disappeared, his gaze deep. "Only 19 years old... and he already has this kind of strength."
The sea breeze blew through his long red hair, the ends swaying slightly, a hint of complex emotion in his smiling eyes. He turned and looked at Beckman not far away.
Beckman lit a cigarette and let out a long puff of smoke, his pupils slightly narrowed. "That guy's teleportation range is at least twenty nautical miles. Observation Haki can't stop him."
Shanks gently patted the hilt of his sword and said in a low voice, "This guy... he's a monster of the new era too."
"Captain!" Yasopp ran over with his sniper rifle, his expression tense. "We just received news that the Whitebeard Pirates have appeared near our territory!"
As he spoke, the expressions of the Red-Haired Pirates all turned grim, the atmosphere suddenly becoming heavy.
Shanks narrowed his eyes, a sharp glint in them, then he grinned. "Hahaha... the Whitebeard Pirates... it's really one thing after another."
As he spoke, the entire crew instantly got ready to move out. "All hands—back to the New World!"
"Yes, sir!" The members of the Red-Haired Pirates responded in unison, their steps crisp as they packed their things and ran towards the ship.
Only Shanks remained standing by the sea, the waves crashing against the rocks at his feet. He stared at the once-peaceful little village. In the breeze, the sound of the windmill turning seemed particularly lonely.
"Shimotsuki Village..." Shanks's gaze was deep, his brow slightly furrowed. "Since that guy has his eyes on it, it seems the plan has to change..."
Remembering Roy's elusive teleportation ability, his face gradually darkened. "This ability... is not easy to deal with."
Shimotsuki Village, Shimotsuki Dojo
The setting sun's glow fell on the dojo's wooden floor, creating a warm yet somewhat solemn atmosphere. The air was filled with the faint scent of medicinal herbs, and the wooden practice swords hanging on the wall swayed slightly in the wind.
"Waaahhh—!! Big Brother Roy, you're covered in blood!!" Little Nami was so scared her tears were falling. She clung tightly to Roy's cape, as if afraid he would collapse at any moment.
Luffy was even more flustered, waving his arms around. "A doctor! Quick, call a doctor!"
Roy chuckled and ruffled the two little ones' heads. "Don't panic, it's just a small injury." He lifted the hem of his uniform, revealing a scabbed wound. "See, it's almost healed."
Nami sniffed and poked the scar, and after confirming it was really okay, she broke into a smile through her tears. "Liar!"
Luffy instantly forgot his nervousness and came closer, his eyes wide. "So cool! How did you do that?"
Roy chuckled and turned slightly. "I forgot to show you this." As he spoke, his figure instantly blurred and vanished from the spot. The next second, he had changed into a brand new Marine uniform, his white cape fluttering in the last rays of the sun.
"Waaahhh!!!" The two children's eyes were wide, their little faces red with excitement.
"Clack—clack—" The sound of wooden clogs came from the other end of the hallway. Koushirou walked over slowly with Zoro and Kuina, tightly clutching a morning paper, the corners of the paper crumpled.
On the front page of the morning paper, the photo of the explosive battle caught the eye—Rear Admiral Roy clashing with Red-Haired Shanks's Conqueror's Haki, the entire island torn apart in the battle.
"Mr. Roy!" Koushirou pushed up his glasses, the lenses reflecting the orange light of the setting sun, hiding the doubt in his eyes. "This morning's news... was truly impressive."
Zoro's gaze was fixed on the obvious sword wound on Roy's waist, his three bamboo swords creaking in his grip. Kuina bit her lower lip. Her father's rare loss of composure made her realize that this seemingly gentle Marine boy was probably more terrifying than any pirate.
Koushirou's gaze fell on his two exceptionally talented disciples, and a thought flashed in his mind. "A person who can face off against a New World monster pirate crew at the age of 19... perhaps, he really can change something."
"Mr. Koushirou!" Roy suddenly became serious and gave a standard military salute. "I came this time to make a formal request—"
The sea breeze swept by, blowing the cherry blossom petals, which fell like snow. "Please allow Kuina and Zoro to participate in the Marine elite training camp!"
Zoro's bamboo sword fell to the ground with a clatter. Kuina looked up abruptly, the shock in her eyes indescribable. Nami and Luffy blinked in confusion, but they saw the usually composed Koushirou's fingers trembling slightly.
"Of course, after they have completed their basic training," Roy's voice was gentle but firm. His gaze was like a torch as he swept over the two little swordsmen. "After all..."
As he spoke, he moved, his figure like a gust of wind as he swept to the hundred-year-old cherry tree in the courtyard. He gently pressed the trunk, a faint Armament Haki flashing on his fingertips.
"Swish—!"
The petals of the entire cherry tree fell like a waterfall, the pink blossoms like a dream in the setting sun. Amidst this rain of flowers, Roy's voice sounded clearly, "If you want to sever fate, a wooden sword from a dojo is not enough."
Kuina's pupils constricted suddenly. That was the exact phrase her father had said to her just last night.
Koushirou stood there, stunned, the morning paper in his hand trembling slightly in the wind. The paper clearly read: "Red-Haired Pirates," "Conqueror's Haki Clash," and other such words.
He took a deep breath, an unprecedented determination in his eyes. Amidst the swirling cherry blossoms, he bowed deeply. "Then... I'll be in your care."
In the distance, Nami was screaming with excitement at the flying cherry blossoms, and Luffy was clamoring to learn teleportation. Zoro had already picked up his bamboo sword, his expression grave.
Roy looked at them, a slight smile on his lips. "From today on, your world will no longer be just a corner of the East Blue."
