The Omega Is Pregnant

chapter 55

Tae-seo kept lifting his phone to his ear and lowering it again, all because of Park Han-soo’s incessant whining. Seriously, just because he hadn’t mentioned taking a leave of absence the last time they ate together, Han-soo was making a huge fuss. It was bad enough that even people walking past flinched at the loud voice blaring from his phone.
If he told this guy he was pregnant, how much worse would it be?
[So, when are we meeting?]

“We just ate together the other day. Why do we need to meet again?”
[If I’d known what kind of meal that was, I obviously wouldn’t have eaten it.]
“You sure seemed to enjoy it at the time. And it’s just one semester. Why are you making such a big deal out of it?”

Tae-seo quickly lowered the volume, bowing his head in apology to the person next to him. Even after turning it down to barely a whisper, Park Han-soo’s shouting still somehow felt loud.
[Isn’t making a fuss normal? Next semester is our last, and if you take a leave of absence, that’s it—we’ll be completely separated.]
“Even if we take the same classes, what difference does it make? We just sit next to each other, that’s all.”

[That’s what’s important! That’s how we talk and get closer!]
“We can still meet up if we just text each other.”
[That means we’d only meet if we actively make the effort.]

At that point, Tae-seo pulled the phone away from his ear slightly. Since no one else could hear now, he decided to half-listen and just respond whenever necessary. He’d meet up with Han-soo after he calmed down a bit anyway.
Stopping for a moment in the lobby, Tae-seo thought about when he should call Han-soo to meet up and whether he should explain why he was taking time off. Annoying as he was, Han-soo was still the only person he could really call a friend.
Then, tilting his head slightly, Tae-seo muttered to himself.

“This is weird. Really weird.”
[What’s weird? It’s not like me clinging to you is anything new.]
“Is this the only hotel in the city or something?”

[What are you even talking about? Are you bragging about being a hotel heir now?]
Ignoring Han-soo’s nonsense, Tae-seo’s eyes sharpened.
“No, I mean, there are plenty of hotels around, so why is the baby’s father here? And why is he with another woman?”
[Wait, what? Baby’s father? Woman?]

“I’ll call you back.”
[What? Hey! Yoon Tae—]
Tae-seo abruptly lowered his arm, his gaze locked on Kang Se-heon.

He had assumed Se-heon was here for business. So was the woman in front of him also someone he was meeting for work?
“Then why do they look so close?”
If it was just a business meeting, why was the woman leaning so far toward Kang Se-heon? And why was she smiling like that?

“This is probably the part where I’m supposed to get mad and demand to know who she is… but if she really is a business associate, that’d just make things awkward.”
Tae-seo pulled his lower lip between his teeth, shifting his weight onto one leg. He even crossed his arms, deep in thought, but no answer came easily.
He needed a decisive clue to make up his mind.

Acting as if he were just another passerby, Tae-seo raised a hand to cover his mouth and started walking closer. If Se-heon noticed him, so be it—but he had to get close enough to hear their conversation.
“How do I look as a potential partner?”
Ah. So, it wasn’t business.

Talk about timing. Just one sentence from the woman revealed everything.
And to top it off, they were sitting in the exact same spot where he and Han Mirae used to sit together.
Without any more hesitation, Tae-seo dropped into the empty seat beside her.

“So this is how it felt when I was with Mirae.”
Watching himself and Han Mirae back then must have been like this for Kang Se-heon.
“It’s really distracting.”

“Good. Now you understand.”
Tae-seo narrowed his eyes at Se-heon’s response.
He had just caught him sitting with another woman, and yet he was acting completely unbothered?

If anything, instead of trying to explain himself, he just looked amused—like he was enjoying the fact that Tae-seo had barged in.
“And I’ve realized something else.”
Leaning back against the couch like Jung Hae-jin, Tae-seo matched Se-heon’s relaxed demeanor. If Se-heon wasn’t tense, then he didn’t need to be either.

“You were interested in me from the start.”
“Wouldn’t it be more accurate to say I was just paying attention back then?”
“Same thing.”

Even before they started dating, Se-heon had feelings for him. That’s why he approached him when he was eating alone and why he still clearly remembered Han Mirae’s name.
Tae-seo crossed his arms and nodded to himself in satisfaction before suddenly straightening up. He turned—not to Se-heon, but to Jung Hae-jin.
“By the way, who said Se-heon hyung wasn’t the type to like anyone?”

Jung Hae-jin, who had been silently observing Tae-seo’s unexpected intrusion, suddenly widened her eyes at the direct question.
“Why does everyone assume he’s like that? Does he not have a heartbeat or something? Or is it just that his standards are ridiculously high?”
“Because we’ve never seen him date anyone.”

“Hyung never had a girlfriend?”
At Tae-seo’s question, Jung Hae-jin nodded without hesitation.
“At first, I thought it was just because he was too arrogant and no one met his standards, but that wasn’t it. He just wasn’t interested. He doesn’t believe in things like love at first sight, and he’s never found anything more entertaining than his own work. He acts like he doesn’t even have emotions.”

“Is that true?”
Tae-seo turned to Se-heon for confirmation.
“Seems that way.”

“Huh.”
Since Se-heon admitted it so easily, there wasn’t much more to argue about.
As Tae-seo fell silent, Se-heon gestured toward his pocket.

“Your phone’s been ringing nonstop. Aren’t you going to answer it?”
“Oh, it’s Han-soo. He wants to get food together.”
“Are you going to meet him?”

“No. Why would I go when I ran into you instead? The food my baby’s father buys is way better.”
“Baby’s… father?”
Jung Hae-jin repeated the words in disbelief.

Instead of explaining, Tae-seo simply placed a hand on his stomach and gently rubbed it in a circular motion before looking at Se-heon.
“Honey, our baby says they want meat.”
Jung Hae-jin turned to Se-heon, then back to Tae-seo, completely lost.

“Who…?”
“The person Se-heon hyung likes.”
Tae-seo’s flat, emotionless response left Jung Hae-jin utterly stunned. Meanwhile, Se-heon burst into laughter.

“Kang Se-heon has someone he likes?”

"So, I wasn’t exactly his type, and it wasn’t love at first sight, but he couldn’t take his eyes off me. And then, since I was more interesting than his work, he made me his lover. That’s how it is, huh?"

Tae-seo gave Jung Hae-jin a polite bow. Whether he was just messing around or actually being serious was impossible to tell.
Jung Hae-jin studied his expression, trying to gauge if he was joking, before turning to Kang Se-heon.
"Oppa, is this true?"

"Introduce yourself. My lover, Yoon Tae-seo."
"…Lover?"
"Hello. Handsome Yoon Tae-seo here."

Tae-seo flashed a bright smile. Sitting beside Jung Hae-jin made his expression stand out even more, so he even scrunched up his nose slightly for effect.
"You seriously like him? You made him your lover because you like him?"
"Right now, he just likes me. But who knows? Maybe he’ll confess his love for me later."

Not only did Tae-seo answer smoothly, but he even smiled as he added a warning.
"So, you shouldn’t try to make a move on Se-heon hyung. Oh, and just so you know, I’m pregnant. If you try anything, it’ll be a real problem. I may be saying this nicely, but it’s a threat. Like, touch him and you die—something like that?"
"What the hell."

Jung Hae-jin stared at Tae-seo in disbelief before suddenly raising both hands.
"Agh!"
Tae-seo flinched, squeezing his eyes shut. He had been watching Se-heon’s expression from across the table, but now he was about to get slapped by the woman who was just moments ago on a date with his baby’s father.

And with both hands raised—was she planning to slap him on both cheeks?
If he had known this would happen, he would’ve just sat next to Se-heon.
"How is such a cute, good-looking guy Kang Se-heon’s lover? Pregnant? Are you an Omega? A real Omega?"

Instead of pain, he felt a gentle touch on his cheek.
Jung Hae-jin had cupped his face, her eyes sparkling as she studied him, turning his face this way and that.
"…I am an Omega, but…"

"How old are you? You look young."
"Twenty-five."
"Put your hands down before I sue you."

Even with Kang Se-heon’s quiet threat, Jung Hae-jin didn’t let go of Tae-seo’s face.
"You ❖ Nоvеl𝚒ght ❖ (Exclusive on Nоvеl𝚒ght) got this kid pregnant, and now you’re telling me to let go? I didn’t think you were that kind of guy, but turns out you’re a total thief."
Tae-seo had been trying to pull his head back from her hands, but suddenly, he stilled.

She was bluntly calling out Kang Se-heon? That was actually kind of fun.
Then, as Se-heon’s expression turned cold, Tae-seo tapped the back of Jung Hae-jin’s hand. Only then did she finally let go. As a parting gesture, she lightly brushed her fingertips against the tip of his nose.
"Sorry for touching you without permission. You were just too adorable. Forgive me?"

"You think I’m adorable? I’m bigger than you."
"Bears aren’t always ugly and scary, you know. And you’re not that big. You’re just way too cute."
This wasn’t going the way Tae-seo had planned at all. He had barged in to ruin Se-heon’s setup, but somehow, things had taken a strange turn.

"I thought Kang Se-heon would be a good choice for marriage because he wouldn’t bother me. No feelings involved, seriously. I don’t like him. And I have zero interest in your baby’s father."
At this point, she had dropped the formal ‘oppa’ and was just calling him ‘Kang Se-heon.’
"Seriously, where did a creature like you come from? Just looking at you makes me happy."

"That’s why a lot of people like me. Including Se-heon hyung."
"But how did you even catch his attention?"
"I was just standing there, and he picked me up."

Tae-seo really hadn’t done anything. He had been in the middle of a heat cycle, struggling to breathe, when Se-heon showed up.
"…I should’ve seen you first."
Regardless of secondary genders, Jung Hae-jin found herself liking him. She clicked her tongue in regret.

Meanwhile, Kang Se-heon, who had been silently watching the two, finally spoke.
"Jung Hae-jin."
Not ‘Yoon Tae-seo,’ but ‘Jung Hae-jin.’

And yet, both of them turned to look at him.
"Leave."
"Is he good to you?"

"He’s amazing to me. Acts like I’m the only person in the world."
"Really? Does he talk to you sweetly?"
"His hands are sweet, at least."

"Oh my."
Jung Hae-jin blushed but her eyes sparkled even more. If he was sweet, she wanted to hear exactly how he was sweet. And since Tae-seo was even pregnant…
"He cooks for me, drives me around, calls me every day…"

"That’s not quite what I had in mind, but it’s not bad either."
While Jung Hae-jin studied him with newfound intrigue, Kang Se-heon turned to Tae-seo and let slip a faint smile.
Earlier, he had been stuck in an unwanted situation, forced to sit across from Jung Hae-jin because of Han Mi-sun. It had been the logical choice.

But Tae-seo had ignored all of that.
He had walked right into the setup, fully aware that Se-heon was on a blind date, and seated himself beside Jung Hae-jin without a second thought.
It was that kind of behavior that made Kang Se-heon keep smiling.

"Who do you think our baby will take after, me or Se-heon hyung?"
Even the way he casually claimed him as his was enough to make Se-heon smile again.
