The Omega Is Pregnant

chapter 38

“Uh….”
Yoon Seok-hoon seemed like he was about to say something but ended up clearing his throat instead. Kim Mi-kyung had already emptied what must have been countless glasses of water. While Tae-seo kept refilling the glass, he waited for the situation to settle.

He didn’t want to surprise his parents like this. But no matter how cautiously Tae-seo approached it, the news was already shocking. And now with Kang Se-heon adding to it, he wasn’t sure how many times his parents would be surprised today.
“I was going to tell you everything.”
Tae-seo muttered in a small voice, and Kim Mi-kyung heard it. When Tae-seo casually mentioned Kang Se-heon as his Alpha, it was so natural that she shook her head.

“So there was a reason you came today.”
Kim Mi-kyung’s words were heavy as she alternated her gaze between Kang Se-heon and Tae-seo. After Tae-seo had said that he was pregnant and the baby’s father wasn’t Kang In-hyuk, it seemed as though Kang Se-heon appeared at the perfect time. In fact, the moment she saw him, she wanted to ask if he was the one.
But she had to wait, just in case Kang Se-heon denied it, as revealing Tae-seo’s situation to the wrong person would make things complicated. Kim Mi-kyung waited and waited. But once she saw Kang Se-heon looking after Tae-seo’s meal, her suspicion turned into certainty, and she no longer hid it.

“It looks like I need to hear both of your stories.”
It was time to understand the situation. She needed to hear what had happened after Tae-seo took the drug before she could feel at ease.
Kim Mi-kyung said she wanted to hear more, and once she realized that Kang Se-heon was directly involved, Yoon Seok-hoon stood up first.

“We should move to another room.”
This wasn’t something to talk about casually while eating.
Once they moved to another room, Tae-seo continued the story he hadn’t finished earlier, with Kang Se-heon adding explanations from time to time. Tae-seo hesitated when talking about the help he had received from Kang Se-heon during the heat cycle, but his parents didn’t press him for more details, as they could tell from the context.

The story continued about the times they ran into each other at the hotel and how Tae-seo had ended up staying at Kang Se-heon’s house without notice. Finally, Tae-seo shared that he had gone to the hospital and found out he was pregnant.
“...That’s all.”
Tae-seo felt a sense of relief, but his eyes were filled with anxiety as he looked at his parents. He had no idea how they would react to his story.

Yoon Seok-hoon looked at Kang Se-heon’s face, unable to hide his complicated feelings. It was quite the coincidence that the person who had become involved with his son was Kang Se-heon. Setting aside his background, what bothered him most was that he was Kang In-hyuk’s cousin. The first thought that came to his mind was how he would handle their relationship moving forward. While Yoon Seok-hoon was thinking about the tangled relationships, Kim Mi-kyung’s attention was entirely focused on Tae-seo.
She felt her heart break thinking about how Tae-seo had suffered alone. To think that not only did he have the sudden manifestation, but he had also been silently enduring it, hiding it from everyone. She hadn’t expected anyone to be there to protect him, but it turned out someone was steadfastly standing by him. Because of this, Kim Mi-kyung looked at Kang Se-heon with a more relaxed expression than before.
“I think I should start by thanking you.”

“I didn’t come here to receive thanks.”
Kang Se-heon’s answer made Tae-seo narrow his eyes. He always had to deny even a simple greeting, and Tae-seo thought this was just like him.
Once Kang Se-heon saw that Yoon Seok-hoon and Kim Mi-kyung’s expressions had relaxed, he stood up. Tae-seo had confessed everything to his parents, and Kang Se-heon had made sure he ate. Though the atmosphere made it difficult to properly eat, he had made sure his pheromones were mixed in, so he could eat something else now and left to prepare to go.
“I’ll arrange a proper meeting next time.”

After accomplishing his goal, Kang Se-heon suddenly disappeared just as abruptly as he had appeared. Tae-seo, left standing there, couldn’t shake his dazed feeling.

“It's not that easy to act on your own like that.”

Tae-seo shook his head as he recalled Kang Se-heon’s sudden appearance and disappearance the day before. It was a strange experience, living as if the world revolved around him, but even in the midst of all that, he didn’t forget to greet Tae-seo’s parents.
Determined to address what happened the previous day, Tae-seo set out his things on the table. He placed his books and booted up his laptop, preparing for group work, when someone approached. Thinking it was Park Han-su, he didn’t look up, but when time passed, he still hadn’t heard a word from the person standing across from him.
“Aren’t you going to sit down?”

“We haven’t seen each other in a while, right?”
Tae-seo’s startled reaction when he looked up was met by a smiling, friendly greeting from Mirae. She was the person he had been introduced to during a blind date arranged by Park Han-su. He had heard she went to the same school, and it seemed she recognized him and came over.
“Oh, right. How have you been?”

Tae-seo quickly recovered from his surprise and asked, and Mirae scrunched her nose, tilting her head as if wondering how to answer.
“Should I say I’ve been fine?”
“Why? Did something happen?”

Tae-seo, worried, was about to stand up to match Mirae’s eye level when she raised her hand and gently pressed him back down by the shoulder.
“Nothing happened. I was just joking.”
Hearing Mirae’s voice laced with laughter, Tae-seo placed his hand over his chest as if to calm his beating heart.

“You really scared me.”
“Don’t just react like that—would it be nice if you asked first? I was waiting for your message, you know?”
“Oh, sorry.”

“I wasn’t saying that to get an apology. Still, it’s nice to see you after such a long time.”
Mirae squinted her eyes slightly, pouting before breaking into a wide smile. Although she was hurt by Tae-seo’s lack of contact, the fact that they were meeting now seemed to make her happy.
It felt like this was how it was when they first met. There was no pressure, so Tae-seo quickly started laughing and talking with Mirae.

“Are you on your way to class?”
“Yeah. It’s starting soon.”
Mirae sighed as she looked at her wrist. Her friend, who seemed to be waiting for her, was waving her hand in the distance, signaling for her to hurry.

“You’ll be late for class. Go ahead.”
“Yeah, I should. It would be nice if we could take the same class next semester. That way, we’d be able to meet regularly without anyone needing to contact each other.”
“Next semester? Ah... I guess so.”

Tae-seo didn’t immediately nod at Mirae’s comment about the next semester. The first thing that came to his mind was how much bigger his baby would be by then. He was probably going to have to take a leave of absence next semester.
“Call me if your phone is fixed. I’ll call you when I think of you.”
Mirae made a gesture as if holding a phone up to her ear, then waved her hand. Tae-seo nodded, indicating he understood, and Mirae ran back to her waiting friend. Even then, she waved at Tae-seo once more, and he could see her friend tapping her on the shoulder, saying something.

Although the conversation was inaudible from the distance, it looked like Mirae had leaned in to whisper something to her friend. Even though she wasn’t speaking quietly enough to hide it, it was still cute, and Tae-seo smiled as he watched. Just then, someone placed their hand on his shoulder.
“You heartless guy, you seem to have forgotten about Mirae since that day. Poor my friend, Mirae.”
“I’m your friend too.”

Tae-seo slapped away the hand that had landed on his shoulder. The gentle smile he had shown to Mirae disappeared, replaced by his usual grumpy expression, and Park Han-su clicked his tongue.
“Seriously, what’s so good about a guy like you?”
“Don’t worry about my popularity, just hurry up and turn on your laptop. When are the other group members coming?”

“They’ll be here soon.”
It had taken longer than necessary to meet outside instead of working directly in the classroom after the class ended. On top of that, everyone was asked to get coffee or drinks, so they had all scattered, which only increased Tae-seo’s frustration.
“Tae-seo, glaring at me won’t get anything done. Kang In-hyuk and Seo Da-rae should be coming soon. Just wait a little longer.”

“I’ll wait for 10 more minutes, then I’ll get up.”
Tae-seo showed Park Han-su the time on his phone and started tapping on his laptop. Since he had already prepared everything earlier, all he had to do was wake the screen from sleep mode.
“But really, don’t you like Mirae? Honestly, she’s not bad.”

“Yeah, I guess so.”
“Then why aren’t you dating her?”
Park Han-su gave Tae-seo a suspicious look. Mirae seemed like she would be a good match for him, so it seemed a little disappointing to him as the matchmaker that Tae-seo didn’t seem interested.

“Is it because of the rumors?”
The person who had been showing up after class recently. By now, most people at the school knew that it was Kang Se-heon, and there wasn’t much surprise when he suddenly appeared. The rumors had spread so widely by now that Tae-seo didn’t bother denying the relationship with Kang Se-heon. Whether he cared about the rumors or not, or if he really didn’t care because they weren’t true, that was something only Tae-seo knew.
However, seeing how quiet Tae-seo was now, Park Han-su, frustrated, closed Tae-seo’s laptop with a snap.

“What the hell?”
“Focus on what I’m saying. I don’t mind an Alpha and Beta being together, but you... you’re different.”
“Why am I different?”

“You are...”
Park Han-su couldn’t finish his sentence, his eyes filled with emotion. It seemed like he couldn’t outright say it because of Tae-seo’s past feelings for Kang In-hyuk. Tae-seo slapped Park Han-su’s hand away and opened his laptop again.
“Before getting involved in someone else's love life, take care of your own.”

“Am I wrong for saying that? Anyway, it’d be better for both of you to be together since you’re both Beta...”
“I’ve manifested.”
