The Omega Is Pregnant

chapter 36

"Let me know anytime."
The words Kang Se-heon had said at the hospital appeared exactly as a text message.
Tae-seo, who had pulled his phone halfway out of his pocket, pressed his lips together, holding back a smile.

At this rate, he’s just going to show up unannounced, isn’t he?
He recalled Se-heon's response when he had jokingly asked if he would come running if called—Se-heon had replied that he would arrive before being called.
With how often they were eating together these days, his workload at the company must have been piling up like crazy. Just yesterday, Se-heon's secretary had shown up in the evening, saying that his schedule couldn’t be adjusted any further.

In the end, they hadn’t even made it to the café and had to part ways in a rush. Maybe that was why Se-heon's messages had become even more frequent.
Tae-seo simply sent back a short reply: Having dinner with my parents right now, then shoved his phone back into his pocket.
After briefly being distracted by Se-heon's message, he turned his focus back to the meal. Holding his chopsticks, he hesitated over which side dish to pick. But nothing really appealed to him, and his chopsticks hovered in the air, unable to make a decision.

"Is the food not to your taste?"
"Huh? Oh…."
At Kim Mi-kyung’s question, Tae-seo awkwardly moved his chopsticks.

It had been a long time since he had a meal with his family, so he should at least look like he was eating well. But he just wasn’t in the mood for anything. His mind kept wandering elsewhere, which must have made his parents think he wasn’t enjoying the food.
"It’s not that… No, actually, that’s right."
At first, Tae-seo denied it, but he quickly changed his answer.

He really did have no appetite. He was happy to be eating with his parents again, but without Se-heon, the food just didn’t seem appealing.
I didn’t want to confirm it like this….
Now, he understood just how much Kang Se-heon's pheromones affected him.

When he was with Se-heon, he had an appetite. Even when doing nothing, he felt a sense of stability.
Slowly, Tae-seo set his chopsticks down.
"I actually have something to say. Something very important."
The moment he realized that now was the time to speak, his heart started pounding uncontrollably.

He placed a hand over his chest, glancing at his parents' expressions.
Yoon Seok-hoon also put down his chopsticks, and Kim Mi-kyung took a sip of water, as if steadying herself.
"I had a feeling you had something to say," Yoon Seok-hoon said, exchanging a look with Kim Mi-kyung. "But you kept putting it off, using being busy as an excuse, didn’t you?"

It turned out that the reason they had chosen to have a quiet dinner at home tonight was to give him space to talk.
"So…"
Tae-seo nodded, his voice trailing off.

His parents were looking at him, listening attentively. But just thinking about how their expressions would change after hearing what he had to say made his nerves skyrocket.
Where do I even start?
He had finally opened his mouth to speak, yet the words wouldn’t come out.

Now that he thought about it, he had hardly ever shared anything personal with his parents.
For all he knew, they still thought he had feelings for Kang In-hyuk.
If he wasn’t careful, this could lead to unnecessary misunderstandings.

Maybe it was best to start with the basics first…
"I manifested as an Omega."
"Oh my! When? When did it happen?"

As expected, Kim Mi-kyung’s face immediately lit up with surprise—and undisguised joy.
Whether he was a Beta or an Omega had never mattered to his parents. But every time they saw how anxious he had been about not presenting, they had secretly been worried for him.
"This is wonderful news, Tae-seo!"

"Congratulations."
As his parents congratulated him, Tae-seo responded with an awkward but shy smile.
If I had known they'd react like this, I would have told them sooner.

Realizing it was time to move on to the next part, he decided to keep going while the atmosphere was still warm.
"And… I'm pregnant."
The smiles instantly froze on his parents' faces.

Neither of them spoke.
Their eyes darted around, as if trying to confirm they had heard him correctly.
With neither of them saying a word, Tae-seo bit his lip anxiously.

Maybe I was too hasty.
Should he have said something else in between?
He had thought that because they were happy, the news wouldn’t shock them as much.

But he had clearly miscalculated.
In an attempt to lessen the impact, Tae-seo hurriedly continued, gesturing vaguely with his hands.
"I experienced my first heat when I manifested as an Omega. It was all new to me, and before I knew it… I ended up pregnant."

"That… that happened…?"
"WHO IS IT? WHO'S THE DAMN ALPHA RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS?!"
His attempt to calm them down had backfired spectacularly.

"Wait, I’m not done talking yet!"
"It's not In-hyuk, is it?"
"Kang In-hyuk?! I’ll call that bastard right now—!"

His parents were too overwhelmed to listen.
The situation was spiraling fast.
Panicked, Tae-seo frantically waved his hands, trying to stop them. But Yoon Seok-hoon was already fired up, and Kim Mi-kyung was trembling as she pulled out her phone.

"Hold on!"
In desperation, Tae-seo covered Kim Mi-kyung’s phone with his hand while grabbing Yoon Seok-hoon's arm.
Only then did they finally stop and turn to face him, the tension momentarily pausing.

"It’s not Kang In-hyuk. Please just listen to me."
Tae-seo gestured with both hands, signaling them to calm down.
Kim Mi-kyung pressed a hand to her forehead before looking up at him, her expression shifting into something more serious.

"Pregnant? Tae-seo, how could you keep something this important from us until now?"
"I wanted to tell you. But this isn’t something I could just say over the phone—I needed to tell you in person."
"Then you should have come to the hotel!"

Yoon Seok-hoon immediately countered, his voice sharp.
"If not today, I was planning to go. No—if I’m being honest, I hesitated. And for that, I’m sorry."
Knowing how much of a shock this was for them, Tae-seo admitted his fault without hesitation and bowed his head.

But just as Yoon Seok-hoon was about to lash out again, he stopped when he felt another hand on his arm.
He turned to see Kim Mi-kyung shaking her head, silently telling him to calm down.
Realizing that he had gotten worked up, Yoon Seok-hoon slowly sat back down.

After taking a deep breath to steady himself, he finally spoke, his voice noticeably softer.
"When did this happen?"
"…At the company’s anniversary party."

Tae-seo’s voice was barely above a whisper.
But his father frowned in confusion.
"Even before your manifestation, there should have been signs. Didn’t you notice anything?"

"Well… I don’t think my manifestation was normal."
After hesitating, Tae-seo decided to tell them the full story.
At this point, there was nothing left to hide.

"I think it happened because of the drug meant for Seo Da-rae."
"What?"
Yoon Seok-hoon shot up from his seat again, and Kim Mi-kyung gasped, covering her mouth.

Despite their reactions, Tae-seo couldn’t stop now.
All he could do was explain what had happened that night.
"Seo Da-rae didn’t know that I had put the drug in the champagne. And since I’d bullied him before… he just thought I was trying to take it away from him. So, in the end, I drank it myself while trying to stop him."

Tae-seo hesitated briefly as he explained, since he had to bring up the fact that he had tormented Seo Da-rae in the past. But he still managed to say everything he needed to.
"That night, I suddenly developed a fever and lost consciousness. The next day, I was told that I had manifested."
He deliberately left out who had told him.

Because that detail would reveal the baby’s father.
However, his parents clearly weren’t going to let the subject drop without an answer.
"Who is it?"

Kim Mi-kyung, who had just calmed Yoon Seok-hoon down, asked in an overly casual voice—one that was far too deliberate. It was clear that she needed to know.
"I was just about to tell you. The person is…"
It was time to say Kang Se-heon's name.

But the moment he was about to speak, he hesitated. What if they reacted the same way as before—with shouts and anger?
"Madam, you have a visitor."
At that moment, the housekeeper entered.

She seemed to have picked up on the tense atmosphere, glancing around nervously before speaking.
"I thought about asking them to wait, but they kept ringing the doorbell insistently."
Only then did the three of them register the sound of the doorbell echoing through the house. They had been so absorbed in the conversation that they hadn’t even noticed it.

"We’re busy right now. Tell them to come back later."
Kim Mi-kyung let out a sigh, clearly irritated at being interrupted.
However, the housekeeper didn’t leave. Instead, she hesitated in place.

"Well… I did say that, but they insisted that they must meet you right now."
"Who is so rude as to interrupt at a time like this?"
Frustrated, Kim Mi-kyung rose from her seat.

Seeing that she intended to go and deal with it personally, Yoon Seok-hoon also stood up, ready to support her.
Left alone at the table, Tae-seo quietly let out a breath.
Whoever it was, they had unknowingly given him a moment to collect his thoughts.

Maybe by the time his parents returned, he would be able to explain things more calmly.
"T-Tae-seo…"
However, Kim Mi-kyung’s voice—now uncharacteristically flustered—made Tae-seo sense that something was wrong.

He immediately got up and left the dining room.
"What’s wrong?"
He looked at his mother, confused. But before he could get an answer, he saw the person standing in the entryway.

"I’m Kang Se-heon."
With a formal bow, Kang Se-heon greeted them.
Tae-seo stood there in stunned silence, completely at a loss for words.

— I’ll show up before you even need to call.
What had been just a passing thought earlier had now become reality.
