The Misadventures of the Man Formerly Known as Victor Heart

V1CH25 Vampires And Werewolves And Gangs, Oh My

In Detroit, Michigan there existed branches of the two major supernatural gangs: The Hounds and The Crypts.

The local branch of The Hounds was a gang of werewolves headed by Charity Wilson. Charity was the whitest and trashiest of white trash. Blond dreadlocks, skintight belly shirts, daisy dukes, a layer of oil and grime, and ratty high tops was how she chose to show herself to the world. The group she led was defined by their fierce loyalty and unending aggression. They were commonly likened to a group of rapid dogs that would tear people apart for the smallest of slights. Their primary businesses were dog fights, people fights, werewolf fights, and for variety the occasional mixed fights that tended to be quite the slaughters.

The local Crypts was a gang of vampires led by Reginald Washington. Reginald, never Reggie, was his rival’s pure opposite. He was never anything less than clean shaven and freshly showered. His preferred wardrobe was polos, khakis, and boat shoes. He led his group like a business using violence only when required. His group was one based around benefits; they were only loyal to whoever was bringing in money. They primarily drew money from drugs and protection. Turns out not having to breathe was very helpful for keeping drug production quiet, due to not needing to create ventilation.

They were mundane gangs to the public due to the mist and the fact that both had a vested interest in keeping the groups hidden. Too much attention would bring the MFBI down on their heads. Any dissenters would be killed by their groups before they could even make a peep. The gangs have an unwritten agreement with the MFBI, they keep their activities contained and in return are allowed to commit crimes with a major advantage against the mundane police and competitors. One of the major concessions by the gangs was that those arrested serve their time honestly and quietly. Those that don’t are cleaned up.

There was an uneasy peace between both chapters of the gangs. They kept aggressions to a minimum with only the occasional fight that was kept as non-lethal as possible.

This peace was shattered when one of The Hound’s kennels that housed the dogs for their fighting ring was burned to the ground. Both the guards and several vampires bearing Crypt tattoos were found lying dead in front of the building.

This led to finger pointing from both sides. The Hounds accused The Crypts of burning the building down. The Crypts accused The Hounds of killing several vampires and trying to find an excuse to declare war without involving the entire national gangs.

This situation was especially heated because one of the vampires was Reginald’s brother, one of the few people whose loyalty was to him not money, and one of the dogs killed was Charity’s prized champion that she raised from a pup.

Both leaders were at a boiling point with their entire gangs there with them. However, both were told by their superiors to make peace as neither the regional heads nor the national heads wanted a war. They were told that both sides suffered a loss and were equal. Neither side was happy with the order nor the declaration of equality. Reginald was incensed with his brother being compared to a dog and Charity was just plain incensed.

Everything would have been okay though if not for what happened next.

*Charity’s Night*

Charity was lying on a huge mattress she kept in the warehouse she claimed as home with two men and a woman she chose to spend the night with her. They lay there wearing only sweat when one of the entrances was kicked in, sending the door flying across the huge room. Five men wearing all black clothing and balaclavas stormed in with their fangs gleaming in the moonlight.

One of Charity’s bedmates charged the group without transforming into his beast form to buy time for his compatriots to transform unimpeded. He bought several critical seconds before his heart was ripped out for when the group turned back to their targets, they were met with four very angry wolf people.

The reddish wolf charged the leftmost vampire, the smaller of the two blond ones charged the right, and the raven haired lycan jumped at the second of the right ones.

The largest wolf’s claws pierced the two vampires’ throats before they could react. Her claws proceeded to tear through their throats in the next second. She turned to her compatriots who were still fighting. She was tempted to help those who were guests in her own home but knew that would be considered an insult.

The reddish wolf was finishing up his opponent with only a couple of scratches after a minute.

The raven haired one followed a minute later with a slight limp.

The blond one took five minutes and had a nasty slash running through her left eye that would take days to heal.

They all came up to their alpha, the two men with puffed out chests and the girl with her head down as she knew what her results would entail.

She was proud of the first two for defeating their eternal enemy with only the slightest of injuries as was expected of those she welcomed into her bed. The blond girl would never again grace her bed as she despised weakness and would never allow it in her bed.

She was tempted to kill the girl so that none would know about her gaffe. However, she would give the girl a chance at life as she had brought a lot of profit to the pack.

“Lincoln. Duncan. Follow me, we’re going to war. Barbie, go meet up with the vanguards, you will earn your place in the events to come or not. Pray that you do.” Charity told her subordinates charitably, for her at least. Barbie slumped in relief at the news of a stay of execution.

*Reginald’s Night*

Reginald was having a late dinner in his apartment with his flight attendant girlfriend who had just gotten in when he got his kissogram. The door flew off its hinges and smacked the hallway wall behind it.

“Get into my bedroom!” Reginald shouted at his girlfriend, “NOW!!!!!” He added seeing his girlfriend frozen stiff. The beautiful Indian woman ran into his bedroom, while he charged into his entrance hallway containing the three uninvited guests.

He tore the heart out of the chest of the leading werewolf and used it as a shield against the left one. He then raised his right arm to block the slashing arm of the right one. He kicked the corpse into the left wolf, then turned his attention to the other. He ducked the right hook coming towards his face. He then speared his arm through the werewolf’s stomach.

He left the dying werewolf slumped on the floor after taking his arm back. He turned just in time to see the remaining werewolf coming teeth first at his throat. He jammed his arm down the wolf’s throat getting several gashes from its teeth in the process and then tore out the creature’s lungs.

Reginald stood over the bodies with his chest heaving and his arm steaming due to healing. He was broken from his thoughts when he heard a scream coming from behind him.

“WHAT WAS THAT?!?!?!” his girlfriend screamed hysterically,” WHAT ARE YOU!?!?!?!” she further screamed seeing his arm rapidly healing. Looks like this was big enough to pierce the mist veil.

“*sigh* you were not supposed to see that.” Reginald muttered knowing what he had to do.

The woman did not even know what he did for a living as it was a hard sell to a good person like her. He knew that maybe he could sell the gang thing months down the line when she loved him, but he knew that it was too early for that. Let alone the whole blood drinking monster thing. He could lie but she was not stupid. It was one of the things he liked most about her, only now it was an inconvenience.

“What are you doing!?” she asked, seeing her boyfriend approach her.

“Relax. Take a deep breath. It will be easier that way.” Reginald commanded.

The woman’s face turned stark white and twisted into a grimace. She turned and tried to get away. Reginald did not even need a second to wrap his hands around her neck and break it.

He looked down at his girlfriend with pity. He really thought this relationship would go the distance, but needs must and all that.

Reginald took out his phone and made a call, “Lucas, gather the men we are going to war. Also send the cleanup crew to my apartment.”
