Chapter 320: the angry patriarch
Meanwhile…
In the Kawataro family's residence, grief and anger hung on some people's faces. The headless body of Duna kawataro was laid in front of the family.
"That bastard has gone too far!! First, they interfere with our operations and then brought the government's attention to us, and now the bastard crossed the line and killed my grandchild. This is the limit for me!!" The patriarch of the kawataro family bellowed in anger.
He wanted to avenge his grandson. "Patriarch, please, calm yourself!" His advisors admonished.
"Calm myself!? Do you want me, the bearer of a class-3 Ancient bloodline, to stand like a piece of meat and continue to receive punches from that dastardly child!?" He looked at his advisors with rage, contemplating if he should kill one of them to appease his anger a bit.
Feeling the killing intent coming out of the patriarch, they took a step back and closed their mouths.
"Call Desire and her people for me, I don't care about the academy. We will raid that place and kill that son of a bitch that murdered my grandchild." The patriarch ordered.
"Patriarch, the continental competition will be commencing in two days. This is the wrong time to attack the academy. There would be a lot of powerful cultivators from every continent on the Lower plain realm there." One of his advisors said stubbornly, not caring for his life anymore.
"Don't worry about that, we will use the ancient formation diagram that we found all those years ago. My name will not be smeared with such insult that will go down in history. I'd rather die than let that happen to me." The Patriarch replied.
Unable to change the patriarch's decision, his advisors had no other option than to summon Desire and what was left of her crew…
In a few hours, a lady was dressed in tapes. White tapes were wrapped all over her body, the parts free from the tapes were her face and her long azure hair. She had deep, green eyes and a Morningstar hanging on her waist.
Behind her was a monk, dressed in brown robes of different shades, and a golden staff in his hands. He had the tattoo of the exiled soldiers syndicate, on his forehead. An obese, middle-aged man stood beside the monk.
And next to this obese middle-aged man was a female dwarf and a dark-skinned man.
They all stood at the entrance of the Kawataro family's residence. It was Desire and her people…
In a fairly lit hall, riddled with candles and chairs, Desire and the rest of her crew sat at one corner, facing the patriarch of the Kawataro family.
"You guys have a new mission." The patriarch went straight to the point.
"And what might it be? How large is the scale of this mission and how much manpower are we to utilize?" Desire responded.
"Mass murder… you will have to summon every single member of the syndicate. The place where you are going to carry out the mission isn't an easy place to destroy."
"Every single member of the syndicate?" Desire's expression suddenly turned stern. "Where exactly are we going to carry this mass murder out?" She asked.
"In the Severance academy, 2 days before the continental competition ends." The patriarch revealed.
"What?!" The obese man seated, suddenly jumped to his feet. "That is suicide!" He said.
"Stole the words right out of my mouth." Desire backed.
"Don't worry, we will assist you people with an incredible formation diagram. All you need is a fairly competent Runesmaster."
"How incredible is the formation?" Desire inquired.
"Why don't I show it to you instead?" The patriarch raised a hand and one of his advisors that had been standing by his side stepped forward with a scroll in his hands. He handed the scroll to Desire.
Curiously, desire opened the scroll and looked at what was written on it. After some minutes, her brows raised in astonishment at what she had just read. "Shi Li, take a look at this diagram and tell me if you can do it." Desire passed the scroll to Shi Li and he took a look at it.
"I can do it, it shouldn't be a problem." Shi Li replied confidently.
"Excellent, raze the entire place down. I want people to know what would happen when you mess with the Kawataro family." The Patriarch said.
"It would cost some money though." Desire stated.
"How much gold do you want this time?" The patriarch.
"We don't want any gold this time… we want ECs, Blue HD-ECs." Desire answered.
"Woman, do not overstep your boundaries! I helped to build the syndicate, doing this much for me shouldn't require that kind of payment." The patriarch hissed through his teeth.
"That was why we helped you cause a lot of commotion all these while for nothing but gold coins. We even lost some of our best members during the last few missions that you have given us. This should be the least that you should do for us." Desire argued.
"You might have helped the syndicate grow to this point, but we have also helped you achieve things that your family couldn't do on their own. We are not indebted to your family, it is a relationship where the two parties mutually benefit from each other."
"You ungrateful woman!" The patriarch sneered. "Fine, how much do you want?"
"Just a little bit over a thousand blue HD-ECs." Desire shrugged her shoulders as if the price she called was something to be scoffed at.
"Why don't you just go and rob a damn bank!?" The patriarch began losing his patience.
"We would have done that if they had energy crystals in their safes. All they have is gold! We already have you as our sugar daddy, and you provide a lot of gold sugar, so why bother with them?" The dwarf lady that came with Desire spoke. She was quite nonchalant towards the patriarch's attitude, despite her being realms below his cultivation realm.
"We need at least that much if we are going to attack a place like the severance academy. Who knows if they have something in their possession that can counter the formation diagram you gave us? We cannot risk the lives of everyone in the syndicate over a few petty gold coins, however, for that many energy crystals we can." Desire pointed out.
"A thousand blue HD-ECs, that's all I can spare to give you. Take it or leave it!!"
Desire looked at her people, checking to see if there were any objections to accepting the offer. "A thousand it is." Desire replied with a pleasant smile.
"That's why you're our sugar daddy, Hahaha!" The dwarf lady commented.
Sometime later, after receiving the energy crystals in full, Desire and her companions left the Kawataro's residence stealthily, under the shadow of the night. When they were a safe distance away from the city, they stopped.
"Those little bastards that fought with us last time are in the Severance academy. If we use the energy crystals to cultivate, our realms will increase in a short while, and with the help of the formation diagram that they handed to us, killing those brats shouldn't be an issue." The dwarf lady mentioned.
"I will kill any sinners I encounter. Amitabha!" Shi Li uttered.
"Just leave a lot of their body parts intact. Just thinking about the feast I will be having on their flesh is making saliva fall from my mouth." The obese man stated.
…
Meanwhile, back at the forest of prisoners, Alex was still in a tight spot.
He had been stealthily moving around the forest, but his pursuers had always been able to keep track of him through his scents, or more accurately, the scent of his QI. While Ghost-steps was created as a stealth movement technique, it did not specialize in speed. So losing them while using the technique would be hard to do.
['That crazy dog-like brute of a human being keeps on sniffing around!'] Alex complained.
Although Chari could track Alex's general location through the scent of his QI, he couldn't tell where exactly Alex was.
['I'm running out of QI by the minute!'] Alex complained. ['Ghost-steps was never this strenuous to use in the past.']
['And it was never this good in the past too. Now stop complaining and start thinking.'] Al replied to Alex's complaint.
Alex wasn't in the mood to argue with Al, so he ignored him and focused on trying to absorb more QI into his core, however, it didn't do much as the Ghost-step technique was taking more QI than he could replenish by the second.
"Why don't we destroy everything within 15 kilometers? I can smell where he is, but can't find where exactly, chaa, chaa. He must be using some kind of stealth technique to hide his presence. If the kid dies then he dies, we don't really need him alive anyway." Chari suggested.
His companions looked at their selves, taking votes on the suggestion Chari made.
['Guys, how long do you think it will take for over 20 Sky realm cultivators to destroy a radius of 15 kilometers?'] Alex questioned.
['Even I can do that with a single 'Sunset' attack.'] Al boasted.
['Alex, I think it will be better if you switch with me now.'] Xander pointed out.
['Oh I very much think so too.'] Alex replied.
-Switch.
