Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Found You
Odette continued sobbing while burying her face as this was her only way of comfort before a hungry dark beast found her, mauled her, and ate her.
There was nothing but dead silence in this forest. Only Odette's continuous sobs were heard for a long time until she heard a rustle coming from in front of her, followed by a strong scent of blood.
She wasn't adept at smelling any scent from far away like her fellow werewolves. So this scent must've come from someone… or something close to her. The scent of blood was so overwhelming that she couldn't brush it away.
Suddenly, she heard a loud growl coming from her front, and the rustle got louder as the thump from a big beast's rushing steps shook the ground around her.
"GROOAARRGHHH!"
Odette knew that was the sound of a bear, but it was probably a bear that had been corrupted by darkness and turned into an even bigger bear because its rushing steps could shake the ground.
Odette buried her head even deeper. She was too scared to even lift it. As she sat there, trembling in fear, she could hear the dark bear's painful roar before a deafening silence fell once again.
…
…
Odette thought that the dark bear had left, hopefully after getting his meal, so Odette could live to see the dawn and somehow find an escape through this forbidden forest.
She lifted her head slowly and almost had a heart attack when she saw two shining red dots walking towards her from far away.
She guessed those red dots must've belonged to one of the beasts living in this forbidden forest. Maybe that dark bear, or maybe another predator that could kill her in one bite.
Despite her fear, she still wished that it was a human, or maybe unique elves with red eyes. Anyone that she could still reason with. She tried to get up, but to no avail as her ankle had been sprained.
Thus, she was forced to sit and stare at the two red dots with fear in her eyes, "W-who's there?! A-are you human? Half-beast? Elf? D-demon?!"
Odette had never set foot out of her pack territory her whole life. She was clueless about what monster was walking towards her.
The stench of blood was getting so overwhelming that it made her feel a bit nauseous. But that nausea was nothing compared to the fear she felt right now.
Her body began to tremble as the two red dots were getting closer and closer until she could at least grasp the creature in front of her.
It was a man—no, she wasn't even sure if it was a man. But the figure seemed to be that of a huge man, around seven feet tall. He was wearing a cloak that covered his entire body. He was carrying the head of a huge bear as if he just ripped its head effortlessly.
But she couldn't see his face, because he was wearing a strange skull mask that covered his entire face.
The only noticeable part of his body was his eyes. It was glowing red, like a beastly creature that could eat her in just one bite.
She didn't believe this… creature was a normal human, or even werebeast. They had to be insane for staying inside the forbidden forest alone, and without lights.
Odette was so scared that she could feel her soul was ready to fly away at any time. But she still tried to reason with the beast. She stuttered in a shaky voice, "P-Please don't eat me, I… I don't have any meat in me. I-I will leave the forest by d-dawn, p-please spare me…"
The red-eyed beast was unresponsive. He casually tossed the bear head away, while keeping his gaze on her with his shining red eyes before he suddenly kneeled in front of her.
Odette could see the skull mask closer and realized that it was actually a wolf skull. Which spooked her even more, because this wolf skull might have been a decapitated werewolf's head.
She almost fainted when the skull slowly drew closer to her face, and she quickly begged, "S-sir, I-I might be a werewolf, but I'm w-wolfless! Please, let me go, I meant no harm!"
The man-beast in front of her didn't say a thing. Odette even started to doubt whether he could speak at all.
The tip of the skull touched her cheek for a while, and Odette was frozen by fear. She couldn't even close her eyes or avert her gaze right now, because those glowing red eyes carried a strange power that forced her to continue looking at them.
She could feel the heavy breath coming from the man-beast in front of her, and his breath slowly grew heavier and heavier before she heard two words coming from him.
"Found you."
Odette was astonished. His voice was deep and magnetic like a king that commanded thousands of troops. At the same time, his voice also carried an unimaginable pain and longing. It was a strange feeling that she couldn't describe clearly.
His voice stunned her and made her heartbeat race even faster. She assumed her heart started racing because of fear as that was the only logical explanation of the situation.
"W-what do you mean—wha!" Odette was shocked when the man suddenly picked her up and carried her in his arms. He carried her close to his chest and wrapped his arms around her small body, making sure that she couldn't wriggle her way out.
Odette had no time to react when the strange man suddenly jumped high and landed on the tall tree branch before jumping from one tree branch to another.
Odette could finally see the bright moonlight once more. But she had no time to enjoy the moon, because the strong wind hit her face, and she quickly clenched the man's cloak as she didn't want to fall from such great height.
She turned her head to see the man who was carrying her, and from this angle, she realized that it was truly a man wearing a wolf skull mask.
