Chapter 31: Mythical Pride
Before Mizuage could take more than a few steps, Lysia's small form stepped in front of him to block his path.
"And just where do you think you are going with my student?" Lysia demanded, then narrowed her eyes dangerously. "I would also like to know why you would dare interrupt a match in my training hall? Or has being a cauldron not matured you at all since the war?"
Mizuage took a step back, but only slightly. "You should have intervened before me then if he is your student," Mizuage replied defensively but then took another step back as Lysia released some of her killing intent at him.
"Little white dragon, do you not remember who I am? Even if Bane had his arms and legs cut off, I could have healed them. Even if he died, I was standing by and could have revived him, yet, you let him get off without learning anything from this!" Lysia growled, and Bane tried to slowly back away.
He was suddenly feeling a lot more scared of Lysia than anyone else at that current moment. Something told Bane that he should try to get away from here as fast as possible, but Lysia was not in the mood.
"And you!" Lysia snapped, pointing a finger at Bane.
Suddenly, an invisible force grabbed him and dragged him back to where Lysia and Mizuage were standing.
"Because this dragon soup pot interrupted the beat down that you severely needed, I will be training you going forward. We will be leaving the village to train around the island, and the useless dragon posing as an elf will be coming with you along with Wei Nam Lee. Bilgarth came to talk with me earlier about some strange sites all over the island that he wanted me to check out, so you will all be coming with me,” Lysia instructed in a tone that left no room for debate, but Mizuage was not going to take this lying down.
“What makes you think that you can order me around? I am the Leader of a Sect that resided in the 9th heaven! I am also a proud dragon that will not be bossed around by some tyrant elf!” The tall white-haired elf announced, trying to sound confident, but anyone who was watching could see how tense the elder looked.
“Oh? Do you want to join the boys' training? Is that what I am hearing from you, little white dragon? Or do you think you have what it takes to challenge me?” Lysia asked with a menacing aura that pushed Mizuage and Bane to their knees.
As this happened, a small childlike old man walked over with his hands behind his back, shaking his head. “I tried to warn you, Master Mizuage. Lysia is not a normal elf, and I told you not to interfere with the boys' match.”
Mizuage turned his head with gritted teeth. “So you are just going to let her embarrass us like this?”
Bai Xiao Meng could only shrug. “I would prefer not to get drawn into the mess that you created by not understanding the rules of this place. It seems you have been an inanimate object for too long, and it will be good for you to go with the boy.”
A multitude of emotions crossed Mizuage’s face. Now not only an elf was embarrassing him, but his own Disciple was turning his back on him! ‘Since when has the Immortal White Dragon Sect fallen so far?!’ The dragon asked himself. Yet, Mizuage knew the answer to that question, but his pride as a dragon wouldn't just submit like this.
Mizuage's pride was deeply wounded, but the practical side of him recognized that he had little choice. He couldn't afford to challenge Lysia directly, not when his power was still recovering after centuries of being sealed away. He gave a reluctant nod.
"Fine," Mizuage said through gritted teeth, "I'll join the training."
Lysia's expression softened slightly, her aura of menace dissipating. "Good. Now, let's move out. We have much to do and little time to waste."
As she left, Mizuage turned to glare at Bane, who was dusting himself off. "This is all your fault!"
Bane just looked over as he dusted his arm off and snorted. "My fault? I don't remember asking you to interrupt my fight. I was fully prepared to get what I deserved. I stepped out of line and thought I was hot shit, but was about to get the ass whooping of my life to check me. Now we are both going to get worked to the bone because of your proud ass."
"What?! Are you really going to talk to your Sect Leader like this?!" Mizuage demanded, stunned by the way Bane was suddenly treating him.
"Huh? You are my pot before my leader, clearly. You must be used to being the top dog wherever you are from, but you're not here. Just be glad that Lysia didn't teach you a lesson in front of everyone," Bane said as he walked to join Lysia, and Mizuage could only grit his teeth and follow.
The group left the training hall with a palpable tension hanging in the air. Lysia led the way, her expression set with a determined purpose, while Bane and Mizuage followed behind. Wei Nam Lee joined them shortly after, a curious look on his face as he took in the sight of the group.
"Looks like I missed quite the show," Wei Nam Lee commented, falling in step beside Bane. "I heard something about us leaving the village?"
Bane nodded, still feeling the effects of his earlier fight with Ezio. "Yeah, Lysia's taking us on some kind of training expedition. Apparently, we need it."
Wei Nam Lee raised an eyebrow. "You look like you could use some healing first. Lysia, are you sure he should be training in this condition?"
Lysia glanced back at them. "He'll be fine. His body will heal naturally by the time we reach our destination. Right now, it's more important to get moving."
Mizuage remained silent, his pride still stinging from the earlier confrontation. Bane could sense the dragon's resentment but chose to ignore it. He had bigger things to worry about, like surviving whatever training Lysia had in store for them.
