Chapter 23: Ouyang Xue's Visit
When Ji Aier was feeding Ji En porridge, there was a knock on the door of the ward. She went to open the door and saw Ouyang Xue holding a bouquet of flowers, coming to visit Ji En.
"You're here," Ji Aier greeted Ouyang Xue.
Ouyang Xue nodded and walked into the ward. First, she gave Ji En a kiss, and then she put the flowers in a vase. She had already mastered the art of treating Ji Aier like air.
"HONEY, you got injured. Why didn't you tell me? No wonder no one answered your cell phone these days," Ouyang Xue said to Ji En. "Are you feeling better now? Does it still hurt?"
"Uh, you two talk first. I'm going out to buy something," Ji Aier made up an excuse to leave, giving the couple some private space. Otherwise, if she listened any longer, she might really feel the urge to go to the restroom.
Ji Aier walked aimlessly in the corridor. In this place, she didn't know where else she could go. Just then, she met Cheng Zongyi, who was also coming to visit Ji En.
"How is Ji En? Is he okay?" Cheng Zongyi asked when he saw Ji Aier. He was wearing a casual outfit today, which highlighted his gentle and refined temperament.
"Yeah, he's not in any serious trouble anymore. He just needs to rest," Ji Aier said with a smile to Cheng Zongyi. She had been really exhausted these days, constantly worried that something might go wrong with Ji En.
"You're not in there watching over him," Cheng Zongyi smiled as always. His eyes seemed to be able to see into people's hearts.
"He has an important guest visiting. I didn't want to stay there and bother them," Ji Aier said, sticking out her tongue. She thought she would be quite the unwanted third wheel, so she decided not to make things awkward.
"Is it Ouyang Xue?" Cheng Zongyi asked.
Ji Aier nodded. She guessed that except for Ouyang Xue's visits, there generally wasn't a need for her to step aside.
"Then I'll just wait here," Cheng Zongyi said with a smile and then sat down on a row of chairs in the corridor. Ji Aier also sat down on a chair beside him, and they started chatting casually.
"You're really good at mixing drinks," Ji Aier said to him, remembering the delicious cocktail he had made the other day.
"That's my job. I've been learning it for many years," Cheng Zongyi said. His tone suggested that he didn't think it was something to show off.
"Do you also need to work part - time?" Generally, the students in this school were either rich or from prominent families. Logically speaking, they shouldn't need to work part - time to earn tuition fees. Of course, she was an exception.
"Yes, I do. As I just said, it's my job," Cheng Zongyi smiled.
"It seems you're similar to me. Poor kids have to take on responsibilities early," Ji Aier said with a smile to Cheng Zongyi. If it weren't for the Ji family, she thought she would never have been able to enter this school in her life. So the price she paid was to be at Ji En's beck and call.
Cheng Zongyi touched his nose, not knowing how to respond to Ji Aier's words.
"Did I say something wrong?" Ji Aier asked him.
"No!" he said with a smile.
Later, Ji Aier realized that she was wrong, and quite ridiculously so. Even if Cheng Zongyi didn't work, the Cheng family's fortune was enough for him to live a luxurious life for several lifetimes. His part - time job was entirely due to the family's spirit of hard work and the need for self - reliance.
"Aren't you jealous?" Cheng Zongyi suddenly asked Ji Aier, and this question took her by surprise.
"Jealous of what?" Ji Aier didn't understand. Why would she be jealous?
"Ouyang Xue is in there," Cheng Zongyi pointed in the direction of Ji En's ward.
"Haha, she's Ji En's girlfriend. It's normal for her to be in there. Why would I be jealous?" Ji Aier laughed, thinking it was really strange for Cheng Zongyi to ask her this. Why on earth would she be angry about a couple being together? She wasn't that bored.
"Don't you have any feelings for Ji En at all?" Cheng Zongyi was surprised by Ji Aier's answer. He hadn't expected that Ji Aier didn't have any special feelings for Ji En.
"No," This answer was concise enough. Although when answering this question, Ji Aier felt a bit guilty. But she was still very clear about her own status and clearly remembered the words Ji En had said to her: Don't dream of something that's beyond your reach. Although Ji En had been referring to Cheng Zongyi as the "swan" at that time, the words applied to Ji En as well. So she would definitely not let herself have such delusions.
