The Magical Girl’s Journey ~It Seems the TS Magical Girl Has Bad Luck~

Chapter 6

The magical girl threw a tantrum.

Even after being summoned to the meeting, my daily life didn’t change much.

I woke up at a somewhat normal time in the morning, went along with the demon to slay monsters, experimented with new spells in the simulator, or while out shopping, I was asked by the police if I was lost. It was a life that hadn’t changed all that much.

However, the demon started telling me more often to correct my gestures and the way I walked.

It wasn’t entirely incomprehensible. My current face could be called that of a beautiful young girl. Things like leaving bedhead alone or drinking beer after taking a bath weren’t viewed favorably by the demon.

When I tried drinking beer, I felt sick and passed out. On the inside, I was unmistakably girlish too.

Since the demon is female in terms of gender as well, it seemed they didn’t want to see a beautiful young girl looking slovenly.

So, I began making an effort to be more mindful, starting the day before the meeting. But fundamentally, I didn’t know what would happen at this meeting.

Tomorrow was the meeting, but I decided to ask the demon just in case.

“Then, Demon-sensei, please.”

“Yes, yes. First off, only rankers can attend this tea party as participants, everyone else is considered a guest.”

After that, the demon’s long explanation continued. In summary, the tea party was a conference for magical girls, by magical girls.

Issues within the magical girls themselves and the status of designated targets for extermination were discussed. The main agenda was establishing smooth cooperation between the Magic Bureau and the Fairy Bureau.

Furthermore, the policies and methods of the meeting change with each generation. Counting from when the tea parties began, we’re now in the third generation.

The reason I was called this time was because they noticed my ability to enter barriers and easily dispatch B-class threats.

I technically had the option to refuse, but due to the demon’s wishes, it became mandatory participation.

The venue was set in a special place for tea parties located in the Fairy Realm. The demon herself had never actually attended and it seemed participating was one of her goals.

Well, I had been thinking that sooner or later I’d have to visit the Fairy Realm anyway. If I consider this as just happening a bit earlier, it’s fine.

The reason I didn’t want to go was because meeting others in this state filled me with deep melancholy.

While I was rambling about such things to the demon, I got dragged into monster hunting.

(I kind of understand how pigs feel when they’re shipped off.)

“Stop spouting nonsense and take them down quickly!”

With a snap, I transformed and pulled my hood over my head. I leaned on my staff, which I always relied on, sticking it into the ground.

“Set, ice and rock. Become spears.”

I kept the magic hovering in the air, waiting only for the monsters to appear.

“You’ve become either more skillful or you’re using magic in strange ways.”

(Of course, I just want to make things as easy as possible. This way, I can just fire the moment a monster shows up and it’ll be over.)

Moreover, I can choose whether or not to follow the enemy, and depending on the opponent, it can also serve as a trap.

“I don’t mind since I’m not bored. Ah, there’s a monster… Let’s move on to the next one!”

From spotting the monster to defeating it took three seconds. Compared to the beginning, it had become much easier.

Physically, I might be at the lower end among all magical girls, but magically, I might be ranked quite high?

Although aerial standby magic can be difficult to use unless in an open space, there are other kinds of magic, so there are countless ways to approach it.

Considering collateral damage, I must use magic carefully, which is rather harsh in its own way.

I hunted minor enemies until nightfall, bought some cocoa from a vending machine at a park I stopped by, and took a short rest.

(I want to use that refreshing magic again that feels like signaling a new beginning.)

“You can’t use high-power spells outside barriers. Oh? What is it?”

(What’s wrong?)

“Captured two figures resembling magical girls a little far away. They seem to be arguing.”

If they’re going to fight, they should do it in the Fairy Realm… That’s why magical girls are troublesome…

A thick swirl of dark feelings welled up in my chest. The magical girls were also to blame for turning me into this.

Though I admit I enjoy this situation somewhat, I still can’t forget the terror and pain from back then.

(What should I do?)

“If Haruna agrees, I’d like you to mediate, but how about it?”

(Acknowledged. What’s the order?)

Every request or task from the demon comes with some sort of restriction. Breaking it isn’t forbidden, but as an adult, I want to do my job perfectly.

“The incapacitation of the target magical girls and prevention of further damage. Minor injuries without lasting effects will not be questioned. For this time, I will apply for combat in the second form.”

(Seriously?)

“Well, with my current vitality, using magic might result in killing them. With the second form, I can control my strength better, and most importantly, the costume is Demon-approved.”

That possibility can’t be denied…

Fine, let’s fight over there then.

1

“Hurry up and die already! Just because your ranking is higher than mine doesn’t mean you can act so arrogantly!”

From the sky, a greatsword came down as if cleaving the opponent, and the girl who dodged it thrust with her spear, but the backstep evaded it.

“Instead of complaining about losing, why don’t you try improving your ranking?”

A magical girl with a greatsword and another with a spear. Their conflict had caused cracks in the asphalt and broken trees.

Fortunately, they weren’t fighting in a residential area, which was the only saving grace.

These two were contemporaries, but the spear-wielding magical girl had more talent in battle and climbed the rankings faster than the greatsword user.

In their branch of the Magic Bureau, the spear-wielding girl was highly valued and expected to become their future ace.

However, there was a hidden truth. When the spear-wielding magical girl fought alongside others, she stole their kills.

Especially with minor enemies, only the magical girl who defeated them got credit, and since these two operated as a pair, the disparity in kill counts grew inevitably.

For upper-level missions where all participants received credit, luck—good or bad—had them both miss out.

And today, the frustration built up in the greatsword-wielding magical girl exploded due to the spear-wielder bragging about her ranking.

“There’s no way I’d get hit by such a wild attack.”

“Hmph! And your spear hasn’t hit me either!”

Though they avoided each other’s attacks, causing no damage to themselves, the surroundings suffered. Repairs and repainting aren’t free.

Repair costs are deducted from magical girls’ salaries, and society generally frowns upon such behavior.

If a road is damaged, traffic stops until it’s fixed, and if public facilities are destroyed, the situation becomes dire.

Because of issues like these, the demon repeatedly warned Haruna not to cause destruction.

As the two’s conflict approached its climax, a single black sword appeared between them, asserting its presence as if interrupting their fight.

“Who are you! Don’t think I’ll show mercy if you interfere!”

The greatsword-wielding magical girl scanned her surroundings threateningly, while the spear-wielding one cautiously looked around, still ready to seize any opening the greatsword wielder might give.

The sound of footsteps echoed: “Clack, clack.” A fleeting silhouette of a girl appeared under the flickering streetlight, sending tension through both combatants.

The streetlight dimmed slightly longer than usual, and when it lit up again, there was no one there. No, there was indeed no person present, but the two could feel a concentrated magical presence.

That presence emanated from where the sword had been plunged. Both shifted their gaze back to where the sword was stuck,

and there stood a single girl pulling the sword out.

Her silver hair shone beautifully even in the dark night. Her outfit was ambiguous, resembling both Gothic Lolita and traditional Japanese attire. And the concentrated magical aura along with the black sword…

This was proof that she was a magical girl.

“What are you two quarreling about?”

The newly arrived magical girl questioned them.

“This one stole my kills!”

“That’s because you were slow, which I’ve told you multiple times. Please don’t misunderstand and get angry.”

The intervention of the new magical girl had slightly calmed the two, but a small spark was enough to reignite their explosion.

Ignoring the two, the girl thought for a moment, then readied her sword. Despite appearing as a girl, there was a commanding presence that could inspire seasoned warriors.

“Since this is troublesome, I’ll knock both of you out. Please take your next quarrel to the Fairy Realm.”

Whether it was due to her commanding presence or the condescending tone, the two immediately lunged at her.

She deflected the sweeping greatsword with ease and kicked the greatsword-wielding girl. Using the momentum from kicking the incoming spear away, she leapt into the air to evade.

“What!”

The spear-wielding magical girl exclaimed in surprise, locking eyes with the girl mid-air as she prepared to strike back with her spear. However, she was struck across the face with the flat side of the sword and sent flying. That single blow rendered the spear-wielding girl unconscious.

“Perish! Earth Smash!”

The greatsword-wielding magical girl, who had been flung into the air earlier, descended with her greatsword raised.

Her attack was powerful enough to split a human in two. In response, the girl simply placed her palm towards the greatsword.

Confused by this gesture, the greatsword-wielding girl smirked, confident in her victory.

When the greatsword met the girl’s palm, contrary to expectation, her body shouldn’t have survived intact.

But the greatsword stopped dead upon hitting the girl’s hand.

No matter how much force was applied, the greatsword couldn’t advance past her hand, as if striking an impenetrable wall.

“Surprisingly resilient, aren’t you?”

What did those words mean? Only the speaker knew.

Attempting to reset, the greatsword-wielding girl took distance, but in that instant—just a brief moment where she lost eye contact—the girl vanished from sight.

Still holding her greatsword, she warily observed her surroundings. She hadn’t let her guard down, having seen her comrade fall in a single strike from above. She hadn’t let her guard down…

(Where is she? Where could she be?)

There were no obstacles around, yet she was nowhere to be seen. As she glanced briefly at her unconscious comrade, a sharp prick of pain ran through her back.

(The girl is behind me…)

“Please resolve your disputes in the Fairy Realm from now on. Should you inconvenience reality again… you understand, right?”

Likely implying there wouldn’t be a second chance. The girl understood and could only nod.

“Good to hear. Farewell.”

Parting words delivered with unclear sincerity left her pondering retaliation against the spear-wielding girl later.

Feeling a dull ache in her head, the girl lost consciousness.

2

(Job’s done!)

“Seems like this form works better against magical girls.”

(Personally, I don’t like the outfit, but the abilities are good.)

Unlike a White Mage, the lack of any magic is a drawback, and transformation into the second form requires the Demon’s possession. The output of the second form changes based on my negative emotions.

The primary abilities include enhanced physical prowess and deployment of transparent barriers.

Like the two opponents I faced earlier, it falls into the specialized category.

Without the Demon’s possession, I can’t access the second form, and my resources are allocated solely to the above two aspects, leaving me unarmed. Armed capabilities only come with the Demon’s possession.

My staff disappears in the second form, so practically speaking, it might be closer to saying “Magical Girl Demon” rather than a second form?

Generally, since I dislike magical girls, engaging them in a darkened form produces decent output, but against monsters I don’t particularly care about, the abilities are unstable.

When I first entered the second form, I mentioned that the Demon wanted anti-magical-girl powers, and got a smack on the head.

Originally, I thought second forms usually awaken during dire situations or moments of crisis.

Reality, however, doesn’t follow such clichés.

“At least the barrier functioned properly, which was reassuring.”

(That greatsword attack didn’t phase it. Though it might break easily against monster attacks.)

“Typically, monsters invoke hatred, while magical girls inspire hope…”

Despite hardly suffering real harm from monsters, I find myself harboring negative feelings towards magical girls. Perhaps if the damage caused by monsters was comparable to today’s standards, things might’ve been different.

“First practical combat application, how did it go, Haruna?”

(More draining than expected. Theoretically, with the combined mana of me and the Demon, it should have been fine, but switching between White Mage form mid-battle seems impractical.)

“Can’t help but separate the anti-monster form from the anti-magical-girl form.”

(That’s probably best.)

Expecting melee combat, it’s frustrating not to use it freely.

Switching back to White Mage mode, my mana was significantly depleted, leaving only about 40% remaining.

Even before transforming, it was decreasing, proving it’s a hard-to-use power.

(What’s next?)

“Let’s call it a day. We have the tea party tomorrow.”

Right, tomorrow. Forgot due to those fools.

Just as I was trying to learn some girlishness, the day ended without doing anything.

(Any particular things to watch out for tomorrow?)

“I’m not sure how this tea party goes. I’ll join by possessing you, so I’ll offer advice if needed.”

In the worst case, I can escape using the Demon’s teleportation.

Besides, eating good food in the Fairy Realm or challenging the simulation rankings since I’m here sounds nice.

If possible, I’d like to see the robot of the fourth-ranked person directly. Thinking about that makes the gloom of tomorrow a bit lighter.

Just in case, I cast a recovery spell on the two girls I knocked out and moved them to a slightly better spot on the ground.

Their sleeping faces are cute, but once they become magical girls, they create such chaos.

(Magical girls are truly terrifying creatures.)

“The adults guiding them have also gone corrupt, so Haruna needs to step up in that regard too.”

(We’re in this together. As an adult, I’ll do what needs to be done.)

Looks like being a girl on the outside and an adult on the inside.

Let’s prepare for tomorrow and head home.

(Then, let’s go home.)

“Acknowledged. Don’t sleep in tomorrow.”
