Chapter 172
The Magical Girl intrudes illegally once again.
The place she was transported to by the Demon was a location slightly removed from the residential area.
There are a few somewhat larger houses scattered about, but there isn’t much human activity.
“Bingo. Looks like someone’s home.”
(It’s good that they’re here. If they weren’t, I’d have ended up having to wait for them to return.)
She briefly surveys her surroundings, but none of the houses have lights on.
It seems there wouldn’t be an issue even if I caused a little trouble just in case.
I’ll try ringing the doorbell first.
A bell-like sound rings out, but there’s no response.
Something similar happened before.
That was when I was asked by Arongante to check on Marin.
Even without a response, if I know they’re inside, there’s only one thing to do.
(Demon)
“Well, technically trespassing is a crime, but can’t be helped, I suppose.”
Depending on how I file the complaint, it might be possible to designate Rinde as a target for extermination or, in this case, label her as a criminal.
Though I have no intention of doing such a thing, against someone like her, breaking into the house would likely be excused.
After being transported by the Demon, I enter the house.
Foreign homes often allow you to keep your shoes on, but this one seems designed for removing them.
So, I’ll avoid entering with my shoes on.
(Where exactly is she?)
“Upstairs. Right above us, perhaps?”
(Understood.)
She doesn’t seem to be in her transformed state, so I should be fine, but just in case, I’ll carry the magical pistol I received from Strauf hidden on me.
Even without transforming, there’s a possibility I could lose in a direct battle.
I ascend the old staircase and search for the right room.
—That’s the room.
Now, how will Rinde react?
Upon knocking on the door, I hear a gasping scream.
I turn the knob and enter the room.
“Don’t come near me! Don’t come near me!”
Inside, a lone girl cowers against the wall, trembling in fear.
I wasn’t planning to eat her, but I didn’t expect this kind of reaction.
“Could she be a bully?”
(Unfortunately, I’ve neither bullied nor been bullied. After all, I was mostly alone.)
It’s troublesome to let her continue trembling like this; I should do something about it.
“You don’t need to be so scared. I’m not concerned, so it’s fine. I already knew you were trying to do something.”
I pull out the paper I took from Rinne from the sleeve of my robe.
“I’ve agreed with Rinne not to harm Rinde. In exchange, I’m supposed to receive information from you.”
“Sister…?”
So, she’s Kaede’s sister. I suspected there was some connection, but I didn’t realize they were sisters.
“Yes. So, what is the information?”
Rinde slowly stands up and retrieves what looks like a memory device from a desk drawer.
Upon receiving and checking it, at a glance, it appears to be just a memory stick.
“Once everything is done, give this to Inie.”
…So, I’ve been tricked.
“Is there anything else?”
“She said that if I handed this over, I wouldn’t face any charges.”
I see, everything was decided from the start.
While I may have lost out in this deal, I’ve learned a bit more about Rinne, so I’ll let it slide.
“Understood. Though I wasn’t particularly concerned to begin with, I’ll ensure that Rinde won’t suffer any harm if any issues arise.”
I could look at this at home, but just in case, I’ll examine it in a random shop in the Fairy Realm. Even if it’s unlikely, there might be viruses or reverse-tracking programs embedded, so it’s better to be cautious.
“…Can I ask one question?”
As I prepare to leave after securing what I came for, Rinde calls out to me.
“Why… why can you fight against my sister and others despite hating them and feeling pained by it?”
“Hmm, either my emotions have dulled, or maybe any Magical Girl will do. Simply put, it would be inconvenient for the world to end, so we’re adversaries. There’s no sentimentality involved here.”
Kill or be killed. There’s no hatred, only joy in the act.
If they show up as an enemy, anyone will do.
“Then, until next time. Goodbye.”
I transfer back to my home.
I’m curious about the contents of the memory stick, but first, I should settle tomorrow’s plans with Ren.
“I’m back.”
“Welcome back. We need to talk, so please sit down.”
Apparently, the discussion with Arongante has concluded.
“What is it?”
“According to plan, our stay in England ends tomorrow. Then we’ll report to Arongante. That’s the flow for tomorrow.”
“Understood. How will we greet the Bayerns?”
“It’s a hassle, but I intend to visit them in the morning. Please accompany me then.”
Without revealing any hidden objectives, I still need to explain what I’ve done.
Moreover, not just me, but Ren too has inadvertently caused damage in England.
Even if it was unavoidable, it would be wise to offer some form of apology.
“Understood. What would you like for dinner?”
“Hmm. Since this will be our last meal here, I’d like to have the inari sushi and miso-nikomi udon we had on the first day.”
“Understood.”
—Why does she call it “o-inari-san” instead of just inari sushi?
It’s not really something to worry about, but maybe it’s related to where she’s from?
Anyway, it’s fine. Let’s quickly prepare dinner and get ready for tomorrow.

“As expected…?”
After concluding the meeting with Ren, Arongante leaned back in her chair.
Innie and Ren.
Both are among the world’s top forces, but their strength comes with its own set of problems—they’re problematic Magical Girls.
Innie, while capable of thoughtful consideration, consistently sustains life-threatening injuries during major battles, making her quite problematic.
Arongante originally didn’t want to send Ren alongside Innie to England.
However, the other candidates were either Thalagong or Glint.
Glint was the most viable option, but because he is humanoid and to avoid intimidating England unnecessarily, he was excluded from consideration.
Next was Thalagong, but due to his overwhelming competence, sending him with Innie wasn’t feasible.
Recently, his obsession with his sister has become apparent, yet he possesses excellent social skills and can fight effectively both solo and in groups.
Not only that, he also handles administrative tasks efficiently.
Arongante couldn’t afford to sideline such a competent individual.
As a result, Ren, who discards everything except combat ability and is Japan’s top troublemaker, was chosen.
While her sheer power rivals Kaede’s, Ren forsakes everything else.
Arongante was uneasy about pairing Ren with Innie, but under these dire circumstances, there was no other choice.
Sending Innie alone to England was considered, but creating a valid reason to send just a Magical Girl there proved impossible.
Since Innie possesses healing magic, she could have been sent for comfort purposes alongside Jeanne, but losing both Jeanne and Innie at once would result in a catastrophic global loss.
(“I didn’t expect them to actually launch an attack, but they’ve caused trouble again…”)
Arongante reflects on the report she just received from Ren.
An entire Magic Bureau facility was half-destroyed… practically annihilated, along with a mountain blown away.
The Magic Bureau employs various devices created in collaboration with fairies and special materials.
Building just one structure is extremely challenging, requiring not only money but also magic stones.
Rebuilding such facilities would involve astronomical costs that make one’s stomach churn.
Additionally, the mountain Innie destroyed presents another issue.
While incidents involving Magical Girls destroying buildings or blowing up managed land aren’t uncommon,
there are established compensation protocols depending on the case. However, a unique problem arose this time.
Although Innie reported gouging the mountain, the damage extended beyond that.
This information didn’t come from Ren’s report but rather from Thalagong, who was on assignment in another country.
“Could you investigate why one of the monster-detection satellites is malfunctioning?”
Thalagong mentioned this before Ren submitted her report.
After receiving Ren’s report, Arongante examined the line extending from the gouged mountain.
Surprisingly, there lay a damaged satellite.
While Innie successfully defeated three members of the Extinctionist faction, the Magic Bureau, the mountain, and the satellite were casualties.
The total damages are problematic, but so is the person responsible.
Innie is scheduled to attend a meeting regarding the Extinctionists.
Given that she destroyed a satellite crucial for combating monsters,
even if it wasn’t intentional, the timing is unfortunate.
Arongante leaves her office and heads to the First Command Room where her sister awaits.
“Sister?”
“Oh? What’s wrong?”
“I have something to discuss with you…”
Arongante recounts the recent events to Shirokigawa.
Initially delighted upon hearing that Innie had defeated members of the Extinctionist faction, Shirokigawa gradually grimaced as details about the Magic Bureau and the satellite unfolded.
“The compensation fund will suffice thanks to Innie’s previous donation, but the public image might take a hit… Should we blame it all on Free Ren?”
“That would minimize the ripples… Besides, it’s Ren, so it should be fine.”
While Arongante and Ren’s relationship isn’t bad, Arongante has been handling all the tasks Ren should have been responsible for.
Not only that, Ren has repeatedly caused disturbances like this one, and each time, Arongante has handled the aftermath.
After being subjected to such behavior multiple times, it’s understandable that Ren’s treatment has become rough.
“Still, I didn’t expect her destruction to reach space and destroy a satellite. Weren’t barriers supposed to protect it from meteors and such?”
Satellites used to track monsters and Magical Girls are equipped with barriers of the same strength used against B-class monsters during battles.
Furthermore, they have defensive armaments for emergencies.
Ordinary Magical Girls, and even Rankers, find it difficult to destroy them.
“Yes. I’ll confirm the footage later, but first, I need to arrange a replacement satellite and interim measures.”
Arongante mutters, “Sleep time… again,” and recalls Zea.
Tasks that require two people could be expedited.
“It’s good to work, but Innie and the others will return tomorrow, so you should get some rest. Downing energy drinks and relying on recovery magic isn’t healthy for your lifespan, you know?”
Through becoming a Magical Girl, one gains physical and mental enhancements.
Coupled with borderline-illegal, highly potent energy drinks and Innie’s recovery magic,
it results in a lifestyle worse than that of employees at harsh black companies.
“I understand, but this is just temporary endurance. Once we get through this phase…”
“Have you found someone to hand over your duties to?”
“…No.”
After taking over the Magic Bureau and re-establishing it as a new organization, Arongante plans to retire as a Magical Girl once operations run smoothly.
However, she needs someone to whom she can pass on her responsibilities.
Until that person is found, Arongante cannot step down from her current position.
“That’s true. Let’s set aside that conversation for now. Is there anything else?”
“Hmm… During the upcoming meeting, Prizes and Marin will remain at the base, so I’ll leave it to you in case of emergencies.”
“Understood. Take care of yourself too.”
Arongante averts her gaze from Shirokigawa and returns to her office to finish her work before Innie and Ren return.
