The Magic of Arkonia

Chapter 15: Chapter 14: The Shadow’s Grip

The air was thick with a sickly, unnatural energy. The torches in the underground chamber flickered with an eerie purple glow, casting distorted shadows against the stone walls. Raviel, Vaelen, and Liora stood frozen, their bodies bound by invisible chains.

Across the chamber, a woman draped in tattered robes stood before them—her eyes hollow, her face a mask of pure malice. Her aura pulsed with ancient dark magic, the kind that seeped into the very bones of the earth.

"The three heirs… how fitting," she whispered, her voice layered as if multiple beings spoke through her. "Do you know why you are here?"

Liora growled, her wolf instincts bristling. "Let me guess, another pathetic attempt to control us?"

The witch laughed, an unsettling, echoing sound. "Foolish child. I have no interest in controlling you." She took a slow step forward, eyes gleaming with something far worse than hatred—emptiness.

She lifted her hand, and the magic tightened around their throats, their lungs burning as they struggled to breathe.

"The world is dying," she murmured. "Mother Nature no longer nurtures us. The balance is collapsing. And do you know why?"

Vaelen clenched his teeth, struggling against the force binding him. "Because of creatures like you?"

The witch tilted her head. "Because the cycle has been broken."

A sharp pulse of energy shot through the air. Suddenly, visions flooded their minds—hallucinations so vivid, so real, that for a moment, they forgot where they were.

Raviel's Nightmare

He stood on the edge of a battlefield. The eagle tribe was burning. The once-proud warriors lay lifeless, their golden armor stained with blood. His hands trembled as he saw his own people turning against him, their faces twisted in betrayal.

"You were never fit to lead," a voice sneered. He turned and saw Kaelis, his half-brother, smirking as he plunged a dagger into Raviel's chest.

Pain. Betrayal. Failure.

Vaelen's Nightmare

Vaelen was in the Tiger Clan's village, but something was wrong. The streets were empty. Blood painted the stone paths. He ran through the empty corridors, heart pounding—searching for Veyra.

"Veyra!" he shouted, but his voice echoed back at him in silence.

Then, a whisper. "You weren't strong enough."

His eyes widened as he saw Veyra lying still in the snow, her breath gone, her body cold.

His knees hit the ground. No. No, not again.

Liora's Nightmare

She was back in the werewolf clan's ruined village. Ash covered the ground like snow, and the scent of burning flesh filled the air.

A small hand reached up to her. Her mother.

"Liora… why didn't you protect us?"

Her mother's face was twisted with sorrow, her body half-consumed by shadows. Liora stepped forward, but the shadows swallowed her mother whole, erasing her existence.

Liora screamed.

Breaking Free

The witch's laughter rang through the chamber. "You will fall, just as all before you have fallen."

But then—

A shift.

Vaelen's grief twisted into fury.

Raviel's pain sharpened into determination.

Liora's fear burned into rage.

The three of them broke through the hallucinations, their eyes snapping open. The witch's magic cracked.

Vaelen shifted first, his tiger form bursting forth, his white fur glowing under the eerie light.

Raviel spread his golden wings, breaking free of the binds that had held him.

Liora let out a bone-chilling howl, her werewolf form shaking off the last remnants of fear.

The witch staggered back, her once-confident expression turning to shock. "Impossible—"

Before she could finish, they struck together.

Vaelen's claws slashed through the air, ripping through the darkness.

Raviel soared above, his talons striking true.

Liora lunged, fangs sinking deep into the witch's throat.

A scream shattered the silence.

And then—darkness collapsed in on itself.

The chamber grew silent. The weight in the air lifted.

The witch was gone.

They stood there, breathing heavily, covered in sweat and blood, but they were standing.

For the first time since their journey began, they had won.
