Chapter 20: Another job
>>Matthew
I woke up with a clear head.
As my eyes focused and I found myself on my bed, I let out a sigh.
Damn it…
Curse this time of the year. I stood up from the bed. Why would the Goddess do this to me? Not only did my mate come so late to me, he's also a man and I don't even know how to approach him. To top it off, he's in a relationship too and I still had to sleep with another woman during my rut while a third party is always there to watch us.
I groaned and looked out the window. Could this get worse?
Clio's in a relationship… I clicked my tongue. And I kissed him. I got off the bed and walked to the bathroom. I kissed him which should have earned me a slap or something but surprisingly, it didn't.
I walked into the shower cubicle and turned on the shower.
On the contrary, he kissed me… Didn't he? I wasn't hallucinating because of my rut, right?
The cold shower made my body relax. I feel like he kissed me back.
Does this mean I can have him?
I paused for a moment.
He is mine, I should just take him. The kiss yesterday proves that the mate bond is strong between us. Humans usually don't feel that pull but it doesn't mean it's not there.
I ran my fingers through my hair.
That's right, who cares if he's in a relationship? Who cares if he's a man?
He's mine,

"I heard you're looking for the woman who ran away with the files." I walked to the lounge after getting dressed and Zhou-Lin, who was sitting on the couch asked me.
"I am," I replied, "Why wouldn't I? When she escaped from my building?" For some reason, the twins looked a little suspicious. But that's just the Chinese mafia for you. They're cautious about everything.
"You made a pretty big mistake Matthew." Xia-Lin was drinking her morning tea, "Your security was too lax."
I went and sat down across from the twins, "I apologize," I sighed, "It won't happen again." They were right. There were two spies in that party that got in undetected. I can't let something like that happen again.
"You're coming tonight?" Zhou-Lin asked, "Right?"
"The party at Lux?" I asked, "It's a useless party," I shook my head, "I don't need to be there."
"It's your nightclub." Xia--Lin said.
"It's not mine," I looked around, "It's Azef's." He wasn't in the house so I'm assuming he already left for work, "I just have a share in it."
"Yes, but," Xia-Lin smirked and I immediately knew something was up, "We pulled a little something." The twins exchanged a glance, "You might want to be there."
"What?" I asked,
"Just that the drug mafia is attending a VIP party at Lux tonight." Zhou-Lin passed me a sly smile. He had his hair tied up in a ponytail. For a man, he was quite charming, "We told some people 'discreetly'."
I let out a soft exhale, "You're trying to lure in the reporters?" I raised my brow at them.
The twins smirked and I knew they had something up their sleeves, "And that woman who got away with those low-rank files."

>>Clio
I should go visit Nolan. I have to go see Mom too, I'll go on Friday. Maybe I can go with Dave, he has a meeting in City D, right? I'll ask him if I can tag along.
I was walking towards the work building lost in thought.
I couldn't sleep well last night.
For some reason, I couldn't get the kiss I shared with Matthew out of my mind. It just kept coming back to me. I softly brushed my fingers on my lips and felt my cheeks heat up a little.
GOSH!
I feel so ashamed of myself! But every time I think about that intimate moment my heart races! Which in turn makes me feel more ashamed! Why?!? Why did I like that?!?
I shook my head. I couldn't wrap my mind around what happened yesterday.
It's definitely because I'm lonely here and perhaps, even a little scared too! I need to go back and see Nolan!
I nodded to myself.
Cheating is not okay!! I may not have started it and I didn't even understand what was happening at the beginning but I didn't push him away even when he kissed me and that's wrong!
Shame on me!
I pulled out my phone from my pocket to call Nolan when it started ringing out of the blue
!!!
Seeing the caller ID on the phone made me perk up
It was from Nolan! Maybe he missed me as well!
"Hello!" I immediately answered the call, "Nolan!"
"Clio!" He seemed excited for once, "Hey! How are you!"
"I'm fin-"
"I got a job for you," He cut me off.
"Oh…" I felt bad about that, "You got a job for me?" It made my heart sink, "Is that why you called?"
"Of course," He answered, "It's really important."
"No," I said, "I mean, is that the 'only' reason you call-"
"Clio, listen to me," He cut me again, "You did a really good job with those Chinese drug case files." He praised me and though it was a compliment, I didn't feel all that happy.
"Thank you…"
"I need you to go to do it again."
!!!
"What!" My heart quickened its pace, "You want me to do what again?" And a knot formed in the pit of my stomach. It was a familiar feeling, one that I had experienced before, "Get something on the mafia?" I didn't think I would be doing that again!
Once was more than enough. Getting involved with the mafia is scary!!
"Yes," He replied, "There's a party at a nightclub called Lux." He said, "Getting in there would be even easier. It's a short notice so I can't get the VIP pass for you." He clicked his tongue, "But I'm sure you can handle it."
"Nolan, wait, I," I didn't want to do that again, "I don't want to,"
"You have to Clio! Lux is owned by the director of A.M and Matthew. We get a scoop from there again and we can make trouble for Matthew and his partner. We'll get to expose them more."
"But deal with the mafia?" I had a bad feeling about it all, "It's even worse than dealing with the serial killer!" I was sent here for the Head Hunter but he's been quiet for the past few days. But of course, it's most likely because killers plan their murders and don't go on sense sprees so that they don't get caught.
"The mafia just might be doing those killings!" He said, "You never know! I'll send you the details in text. Be sure to go." He ignored my plea and my anxiety just grew.
The mafia being the serial killer? I didn't like the sound of that!!
"Nolan!" I spoke louder, "Wait! I want to meet you!" I blurted it out fast, somehow afraid that he'd end the call before I got to convey anything to him.
"What?" He paused and I was going to say it again when he started speaking again, "Yea! Yea! Of course!" He replied, "Of course, we'll meet!"
"We will?" I felt myself relax a little.
"Of course! Why wouldn't we? We're together after all."
I smiled, "Yes," This made me feel slightly better, "Can I come over this weekend?" I've known Nolan for a long time now. So knowing that he wanted to meet me too made me feel a little better.
"I'll tell you when you can come over," He stated, "For now, make sure to go to the party. You understand?"
…
"But," I didn't want to go but I couldn't bring myself to say that.
"But?"
This was my job. I couldn't just say I won't do my job anymore…
"I'll go," I reached my workplace and stopped for a moment to look at the building from outside.
"Good girl,"

Same wig
Same lenses
Same Makeup
Same shoes
And the same dress
I stood outside Lux with anxiety creeping up my chest.
I have a very bad feeling about this. I don't know what's wrong but something is extremely wrong. I can't shake off the feeling that I'm going to get myself in trouble.
But what could I do? I had to do my job. So, I walked to the entrance and told the bouncer I had a reservation.
"Name?" He asked.
"Cherelle Zima," I used the name of Nolan's secretary for the reservation. He checked the list on his phone.
"Your agent will take you in." He said, then paused when someone spoke in his earpiece. That's right. This fancy club had agents who would 'take care' of you during your visit if you put in a reservation. I had to pay a lot for that but it came from the company card so it doesn't bother me. The bouncer looked at me again, this time with a slightly different look, "You can go in."
"Just like that?" I looked at him in confusion. I was told the agents come to take you in if you get a reservation.
"Your agent is waiting inside." He opened the way for me, "He'll approach you when you go in." He seemed a lot more reserved for some reason as compared to when I approached him.
"Okay…"
I took a deep internal breath and strode in with a confident face.
Alright! I'm here.
I just need to somehow get to the VIP section and do my job without getting caught which is VERY EASY TO SAY!
How am I supposed to look for the mafia? Then make sure it's them and then get the evidence?!? How!!?!? This task is too great to be done on such short notice! I'm just glad I had my disguise with me. I could never have arranged this all on such a short notice!
I'm afraid I might run into Matthew again too. If I do, I don't think I'll be able to run away from him this time! I have to keep an eye on that too. Although, I did hear that he doesn't come to this place much since he's not the owner but I'm still scared. If there really is such a meeting here, there's a chance he can be here.
Right?
I looked around the place and noticed that there was only one stairway that led to the second floor where VIPs were allowed.
The first floor was full but since the club was spacious, it wasn't crowded, there was plenty of space to walk by.
I'll need to order a drink or get to the dance floor to blend in first.
I kept looking around.
I can't stand out here and-
I paused for a moment when I caught sight of a man. He looked Chinese, with long dark hair tied in a high ponytail that suited him. He was standing at a distance, looking at me- No, staring at me with that snake-like pretty eyes of his.
When our eyes met, he smirked, almost as if he knew me.
!!!
My chest squeezed in nervousness but I found my heart pounding when he started walking towards me.
