Chapter 22: My Wedding Day
I stood in front of the full-length mirror as I glanced at the wedding dress on my body over and over again.
It was a beautiful and luxurious white gown that had intricate designs and a very dramatic veil.
I sighed deeply as I stared at my gloomy reflection in the mirror. My life is about to change in a few hours. I'm really getting married to a man I don't love. A man I have no iota of feelings for.
I know it's just for a year but it's still hard for me. Yeah, you'd be saying he's rich and all that but I don't see it from that angle. I've always envisioned walking down the aisle with a bright and bubbly smile on my face, my eyes set on the one man my heart and soul yearns for, but it seems fate has other plans.
I was startled out of my thoughts when the door jolted open and Ava came into the dressing room.
"You said to give you five minutes, Ivory. It's ten minutes already. Aren't you done with the 'getting yourself together'?" I gave her a hard glare before turning back to look at the mirror.
She walked towards me and slowly turned me to face her. She touched my cheek before giving me a reassuring smile. I pulled her into a tight hug before I disengaged after a couple of minutes.
"It's fine, baby. Just see it as the beginning of a new phase of your life. Who knows, this might be the best decision you've ever made." I glared at her again but didn't say a word.
"Is everyone there?" I asked her after a few seconds.
"Aside Alexander, I don't know any other soul there." I smiled at her words.
"And have I told you how beautiful you look today, Ava?" I asked indirectly complimenting her.
She really looks exquisite in the turquoise coloured flared gown she wore. Her hair was styled beautifully and her make-up topped it all.
She's really stunning.
"As your maid of honor, it's my pleasure," she said with a smile and blew me a kiss. "C'mon baby, let's go, they're all waiting." She hooked her hand in mine before pulling me along with her.
I nervously stood in front of the wedding hall closed doors, patiently waiting for it to be opened for me, Ava has already gone inside leaving me all alone.
I inhaled sharply when the two doors opened widely. I took three steps into the wedding hall. It was adorned with flowers and soft lighting. My heart jumped into my stomach when I felt all eyes on me. I could see more than thirty pairs of eyes that was looking at me.
From my peripheral view, I saw Mr Sebastian approach me with a smile. I smiled widely at him when he brought out his hand and I hooked mine with his. It felt so comfortable. It felt like I was with a father figure.
We both started walking slowly towards the altar where Alexander stood. He was looking magnificent as always. He was dressed in a black suit and his hair was gelled back. He looked like my knight in shining armour but I know he's far from that.
As I continued walking with Mr Sebastian, I could see the smiles on everyone's face, especially Alexander's mom. Mr Marco had an impassive expression on his face but I couldn't care less.
My eyes met with Theresa's and she gave me a big proud smile which I returned. I could also see Clark who was just grinning from ear to ear. I just simply ignored the other faces that I don't recognize.
My heart rate increased when we got to the altar and Mr Sebastian handed me over to Alexander. He smiled at me gently and gave me a reassuring look.
With a deep sigh I nodded slowly at him before turning so we could face each other in front of the officiant.
"We are gathered here today to witness the joining of these two extraordinary individuals in holy matrimony," the officiant said loudly.
"Do you, Alexander Marco, take Ivory Addams as your lawfully wedded wife, in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, till death do you apart?"
Alexander hesitated for a few seconds before answering.
"Yes, I do." The officiant smiled widely as if to say Alexander just agreed to marry him.
"Do you, Ivory Addams, take Alexander Marco as your lawfully wedded husband, in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, till death do you apart?" I looked at the officiant and then at Alexander who squinted his eyes at me.
I turned to the audience my eyes desperately searching for Ava. She gave me a smile and a nod when my eyes found her. I turned back to look at Alexander who was now intently looking at me, his eyes were literally boring holes into me.
"Yes, I do," I finally muttered under my breath. The officiant's face morphed into a wide smile again.
Clark came forward with two rings, Alexander took one of the rings and gently slid it down my finger. He took the second one and gave it to me. I flashed him a nervous smile, hiding my true emotions.
With trembling hands I slowly slid the ring into his hand. It was a poignant moment, the atmosphere was bittersweet.
"I now declare you both husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride." Even before the officiant could complete his sentence, Alexander grabbed me and crashed his lips with mine. The crowd erupted with cheers and applause.
He pulled away from the kiss after a few seconds before holding my hands and we both turned to face the crowd.
Ava quickly rushed towards me and gave me a hug.
"Congratulations, baby. My best friend is married!" I laughed out at her cheerfulness.
"Is there an after party?" I asked Alexander with a slight frown on my face. He touched my forehead, caressing the frown lines on my forehead and pulled me into a hug.
"Awww, I'm so jealous. Hey, you listen Alexander, if you hurt Ivory, I don't care how chiseled you are. I will grab you by your amazing hair and I'll punch you in your perfect jawline so hard that your beautiful eyes will be crying for years." Ava's tone was so serious that she was glaring hard at Alexander.
"I've never felt more threatened and flattered in my entire life," Alexander replied with a smirk on his face.
"Yes, I support you pumpkin." I heard Clark chime in. I didn't even know he was here.
"Get away, you're annoying," Ava told Clark before going to meet Mr Sebastian. I stared at her retreating back before turning back to look at Clark who shrugged and left. When did they get to know each other so well?
After receiving many congratulations, I and Alexander entered the black limousine that was waiting for us outside while bidding everyone goodbye through the window.
I sighed in exhaustion as I relaxed my back on the seat. I totally ignored Alexander who was on his phone.
With a flicker of hope igniting inside me, I accepted whatever it was fate had install for me. This whole contract marriage could either turn good or bad.
But one thing I'm sure of is that, I just married the most annoying, arrogant brute to ever exist!
