Chapter 259: Yes, Lord Demon King (Part 4)
It seems that this place hasn't been used for a long time.
Mr. Feistin once said, the most the Demon City ever had was 42 councilors, and at the least, only 20.
Evidently, the struggle here is no easier than on the surface.
Behind the desk, there is a floor-to-ceiling window connecting to the outer balcony, through which you can overlook part of the streetscape of the Demon City. In the distance, the Hell Furnace blazes intensely, casting its light onto the entire Purple Crystal Dome covering the city.
"This is your office." Karisman smiled faintly, thoughtfully saying, "In general, councilors usually don't stay here for long periods, after all, you are a noble, not a regular bureaucrat."
Luo Yan had already heard about these things from Mr. Feistin, but to be sure, he asked once more.
"Oh? Then if there's business to handle, how will you contact me?"
"Rest assured, finding you is one of my core duties, the Parliament Building will cooperate with me to solve this problem… As for sending messages, it's quite easy."
Karisman coughed lightly and pointed to a black magic stone stand in the corner of the room, from which several sleeping bats were hanging upside down. Each bat's wings were engraved with different magical markings.
Luo Yan gave him a couple of glances, raising his eyebrows with interest.
This thing is actually a stone-statue demon!
Youyou, suddenly appearing at his side in a mysterious manner, also exclaimed in surprise.
"Incredible… they actually have souls?!"
Luo Yan wasn't too surprised, just curious whether these things would grow.
"This is your 'office communication system'," Karisman explained with a smile on his face, "and this is the most reliable means of message delivery for the Demon City's parliament — the stone-statue demon. As long as you leave a mark on it, I just need to use the teleportation array to send it to the region you're in, and they'll naturally find you."
Luo Yan stepped a bit closer, and several bats seemed to sense his gaze, shaking their stony wings and revealing their little, wrinkled faces, yawning at him.
Astonishing.
Though they're made of stone, they were crafted so lifelike. Their stone skin felt as smooth as jade to the touch, completely different from the stone creatures in his territory.
"Sounds efficient enough… How about the security aspect? Will it leak my whereabouts? In case I have some business and prefer not to reveal my location."
Karisman replied respectfully.
"You can be assured, once they sign a contract with you, their life and death will be completely in your hands. Even if they grow, you can crush them with just a thought… Of course, stone-statue demons with souls are very expensive and grow with difficulty, so I don't recommend doing so. If you don't want them to find you, you just need to tell them, or recall them directly."
Luo Yan nodded, gently flicking his finger.
Several strands of ghostly green magic light flowed from his fingertips, quickly merging into the wings of those little creatures, planting his mark on them.
The communication system of the Demon City still seems quite outdated, with much room for improvement, but that's not something he needs to tackle right now.
"From now on you'll be called… Little Black."
The five bats called out in unison, expressing agreement, then glared at each other, flapping their wings and baring their teeth, as if saying "He called me!", "No, it's me!".
These lively little beings brought some life to this cold office. Luo Yan smiled as he watched them, extending his finger to tap them on the head.
"Don't fight, you're all Little Black, Little Black One, Little Black Two… and there's Three, Four, Five. When I'm not around, you must get along well, understand?"
This seemed to be a satisfactory outcome for them; the raucous little guys promptly stopped quarreling.
Luo Yan looked towards Karisman.
"I will be at Black Wind Castle during this period, but next month I might be in Thunder County. Keep in touch if there's anything, I'll leave this to you."
Seizing this opportunity for advancement with utmost appreciation, Karisman restrained his excitement and nodded respectfully.
"Yes, Lord Demon King!"
