The Legend of Ye Xiu

Chapter 4: The Turning Point

The lights dimmed in the arena as the final battle of the season approached. Ye Xiu stood backstage, his fingers lightly drumming on the edge of the table. The tension in the air was palpable, almost suffocating. His mind raced, replaying the previous matches each move, each mistake. The anticipation was mounting, but so was the weight of his past failures.

Ye Xiu had fought countless battles, each one a test of his skill and resolve. But today, something felt different. The thrill of the game, the excitement of the challenge those feelings were now overshadowed by a gnawing sense of doubt. It had been a long journey, and Ye Xiu had seen both victories and defeats. But now, in this pivotal moment, he was facing something far more daunting: the fear of failure.

The match began, and for the first time in a long while, Ye Xiu felt a sense of unease settle in. His character, Lord Grim, moved with a stiffness that felt out of place. His fingers, usually so precise, seemed to hesitate. The opposing player, a newcomer to the professional scene, was fast, aggressive, and unpredictable. Ye Xiu tried to adjust his strategy, but every move he made felt like a step behind. He couldn't shake the feeling that something was missing, that he was no longer the player he once was.

The match ended in defeat. The crowd's cheer had turned into a murmur, and Ye Xiu stood motionless in front of the screen. His character had fallen, and so had his confidence. He knew, deep down, that this wasn't just a loss in the game. This was the culmination of something larger—something he had been avoiding for so long.

As he left the arena, the weight of the loss pressed down on him. He walked through the quiet hallways, the echo of his footsteps the only sound in the silence. His mind replayed the match, trying to pinpoint where things had gone wrong. But no answers came. Instead, all he could feel was a growing sense of frustration and uncertainty. Had he peaked? Was this the end of his journey?

In the solitude of his room, Ye Xiu sat in front of his computer. The screen flickered to life, showing the familiar menu of Glory. He stared at it, feeling disconnected, as if the game he had once mastered had become a distant memory. His hands rested on the keyboard, but they felt heavy, unwilling to move. He had given so much to this game, had sacrificed so much, but now, it felt like it wasn't enough.

For a moment, Ye Xiu considered giving up. Maybe it was time to walk away, to let go of a life he had known for so long. The thought of leaving Glory was unbearable, yet it lingered in the back of his mind. Was it possible that he had reached the end of his road?

As he sat there, lost in thought, a knock at the door pulled him from his reverie. He opened it to find Tang Rou, her usual bright expression replaced with a look of concern. Without saying a word, she walked in and sat beside him, her presence a comforting anchor in the storm of his thoughts.

"Are you okay?" she asked softly, her eyes searching his face for signs of the man she knew so well.

Ye Xiu didn't answer right away. He didn't know how to put into words the frustration that had been building inside him. After a long pause, he finally spoke.

"I don't know if I can do this anymore," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I keep losing. I keep failing. Maybe it's time to move on."

Tang Rou's eyes widened in disbelief. "Don't say that. You've fought so hard to get here. You've built Glory from the ground up. How can you just walk away now?"

Ye Xiu looked at her, his expression blank. "It's not the game, Tang Rou. It's me. I feel like I've lost my edge. I don't know if I can keep going."

Tang Rou's gaze softened, and she placed a hand on his shoulder. "Everyone goes through moments like this. The difference is that you don't give up. You keep fighting, because that's who you are. You're Ye Xiu, and you've never backed down from a challenge."

Her words hit him like a wake-up call. For the first time in a long while, Ye Xiu allowed himself to feel the weight of the moment. But instead of feeling crushed by it, something inside him began to stir. Maybe this wasn't the end. Maybe this was the beginning of something new.

Tang Rou's words echoed in his mind as he sat at his computer, his fingers slowly returning to the keyboard. This wasn't the end. It was just a setback, a moment of doubt that every great player had to face. Ye Xiu wasn't ready to give up yet not on himself, and certainly not on Glory.

With a deep breath, Ye Xiu logged into the game. His character, Lord Grim, appeared on the screen, waiting for him. The familiar sensation of control returned to his fingers, and for the first time in days, Ye Xiu felt the rush of excitement that came with the game. It wasn't just about winning. It was about the journey, the struggle, the challenge. Ye Xiu realized that his journey wasn't defined by victories or losses—it was defined by his determination to keep going, no matter what.

The turning point had arrived, not in the form of a victory, but in the quiet realization that his true strength came from his ability to rise after every fall.
