The Last Thunderborn

Chapter 123: Lithotripsy

Turning to the elderly man, Ranav asked, "Do you experience blood in your urine? Or does it appear slightly red? Have you noticed a significant decrease in urine output? Along with that, you might suffer from severe pain in your back, sides, or groin area, as well as swelling in your legs."

The old man's eyes widened in shock. "How… how do you know that? I never even told Usha about the blood in my urine!"

Ranav smiled slightly. "If I'm right, the root of your problems lies in your lower abdomen, specifically in your urinary system. If you lie down, I can conduct a more thorough examination."

Usha immediately stepped forward. "I'll prepare a mat. Grandpa, please lie down."

Encouraged by his granddaughter's hopeful tone, the elderly man stood up and made his way to the open space where Usha had placed a mat. For the first time in a long while, there was a spark of hope in his eyes.

Ranav knelt beside him and instructed, "Usha, please help him remove his shirt. I need to check his lower body from the back. He has to lie down with his back facing up."

Usha obeyed, and once her grandfather was in position, Ranav placed his hands lightly on the man's back and cast a diagnostic spell, focusing on the kidneys.

Jessica observed the results and commented, "It's good that one of his kidneys is functioning properly. I used it as a reference to compare the damaged one."

Ranav nodded. "Now, let's focus on the stones. I can see fourteen solid stones lodged in his kidney."

Jessica confirmed, "That's correct. The rest are just dust particles, which will naturally flush out once the kidney starts functioning properly."

Ranav exhaled deeply. "So, how should we proceed? Should we break the stones one by one? I don't think I can control fourteen dark tendrils at the same time with enough precision."

Jessica reassured him, "That's fine. We'll take it one step at a time."

Turning to Usha, Ranav said, "I can heal him, but the procedure will take time, and he might experience some pain. If you're willing to proceed, I'll begin right away."

Usha hesitated before looking at her grandfather. "Grandpa, what do you think?"

The old man chuckled softly. "What choice do I have? The other healers couldn't even find the problem, yet this young man diagnosed me in minutes. I'm willing to take the risk."

Ranav smiled. "Then let's begin. Usha, please ensure that no one disturbs us during the process. Also, your grandfather must remain completely still. If he moves, my spell might cause unintended damage."

"I understand. I'll make sure we aren't interrupted." Usha nodded firmly.

Ranav and Jessica worked in perfect sync. Jessica continuously cast the diagnostic spell, providing real-time visuals of the kidney stones, while Ranav carefully manipulated dark tendrils to break the stones one by one. The process was delicate… he had to target each stone with just enough force to shatter it without harming the surrounding tissue.

Minutes passed, stretching into half an hour. By the time the last stone was destroyed, Ranav was drenched in sweat. His mana reserves didn't suffer any impact thanks to his condensed dantian, but his mental state was another matter. The intense concentration required to observe two simultaneous spells… one for checking real-time situations and the other for precise control over dark tendril for destruction… had exhausted him.

Jessica's voice rang in his mind, filled with satisfaction. "Congratulations on performing your first lithotripsy… and probably the first one in this world! If doctors on Earth saw how effortlessly you did this with magic, they'd die of envy."

Ranav chuckled weakly. "Don't joke around, partner. This wouldn't have been possible without you. Thank you."

Jessica responded playfully, "No need to thank me! Just remember, the patient will need to urinate soon. He must drink plenty of fluids to flush out the remaining residue."

Ranav finally turned his attention to Usha, who had been anxiously watching the procedure. "It's done. Your grandfather should recover soon. He needs to drink a lot of water to help remove any remaining stone particles. Green coconut water would be ideal in this situation. Also, he must avoid excess salt and protein for the next two weeks. If he follows these instructions, he'll be as fit as a fiddle in no time."

Overcome with relief, Usha suddenly knelt beside Ranav and hugged him. "Thank you! Thank you so much!"

Ranav, momentarily caught off guard, found himself suffocated against her big breast. Struggling to breathe, he stammered, "Usha… I… can't… breathe…"

Realizing what she had done, Usha pulled back abruptly, her face turning red. "S-Sorry! I just got carried away…"

Ranav sighed. "It's fine, just focus on your grandfather now. Don't waste time… send someone to get coconut water and give him some normal water immediately. He will likely feel hungry soon because of the foreign mana injection, so prepare some light food for him."

Usha quickly ran downstairs to instruct her staff. Meanwhile, her grandfather made his way to the restroom. When he returned, he looked at Ranav with gratitude shining in his eyes.

"I feel so much lighter… like a heavy weight that had been pressing down on me for months is finally gone."

Ranav smiled. "That's good to hear. After urinating a few more times, the discomfort should completely disappear. Your urine may remain slightly red and cloudy for a few days, but don't worry… it's just the remaining particles being expelled. As long as you follow the diet and drink plenty of water, you'll be completely fine in two weeks."

The old man nodded. "Thank you, young man. The pain I endured all this time was nothing compared to the relief I feel now."

Usha returned with a fresh coconut in hand. Seeing her grandfather sitting upright, she sighed in relief.

Ranav suddenly realized it was already evening. Standing up, he said, "Usha, we need to return now. It's getting late, and the countess will worry if we don't get back soon. Paramita is with me as well, so I don't want to delay any longer."

After a round of heartfelt farewells and repeated expressions of gratitude, Ranav and Paramita boarded a hired carriage.

As the carriage moved through the dimly lit streets, Paramita turned to him with admiration in her eyes. "You were amazing, Ranav! But why did we leave in such a hurry?"

Ranav leaned back against the seat and smirked. "If we had stayed any longer, they probably would've tried to offer me money or some kind of extravagant gift for curing him. Given how much they've already spent on unsuccessful treatments, that would have made things awkward for us."

Paramita giggled. "You're unbelievable."
